Cangames - Trench Crusade - Batt Report

Howdy folks,

Another Cangames related post...I was really pumped when I saw a Trench Crusade game pop-up in the schedule that I immediately jumped all over it. Seeing that my buddy Mike was running the game, I also knew it was going to be a really good session.

So I have been seeing a lot of posts and comments regarding Trench Crusade for the past year or so, and like I said, when I saw it on the schedule, I was really pumped to give it a shot. In a nutshell, if you haven’t heard of it, Trench Crusade is the ongoing fight between heaven and hell with demons moving onto the earthly plane while also capturing the context or the setting of World War I. The battlefield has become this apocalyptic trench line and no-man’s land where religiously inspired factions can fight the armies of hell. Whatever your religious flavor is, that’s cool, my main focus on this has definitely been more so on the concept, art, the overall idea, and the setting of World War I feels very fitting.

Overall, each character/player has a variety of stats, kind of the normal ones…shoot, melee, health, and maybe a couple of others…the Classics. The main thing with each of the factions and the character types or leader type, is they have their own individual traits, specials, and accumulating a blood rating provides another potential modifier to the number of dice that you can use in your attacks and in your defense.

All that to say, I was looking forward to see how the models looked on the table and give this a shot. Now, admittedly, I think I have forgotten more than I remember about the game, but I do remember having a lot of fun so we’ll just have to go by the pictures and have some random comments there.

Enjoy the pics!

The overall battle. The shrine in the middle complete with skulls, and wall segments, and what not on the periphery. Each player started from their own corner and just slug-fested from there.

My army from hell, big ole demon on the left, the dapper looking lad next to him is my hell knight, and three pig looking things that I couldn’t remember what they were. But they are Piggly, Wiggly, and Fred.

The hell night took a step on the battlefield takes long range shot at one of the French looking figures, which I think were LDS.

Piggly jumps into the battlefield, and set up near one of the objectives (I guess I should’ve mentioned there were a number of objectives for each player to control gaining one victory point or per round objective).

You can see some movements around the table. Piggly gets knocked down bottom right part of the picture. The LDS Troops are moving to a corridor or walkway, squaring off against Piggly. At the top part of the picture you can see some Stosstruppen, can’t remember their faction, And at the top right of the picture, some very British inspired troops are slowly making their way into the field.

Youcan see the corridor where the walkway has become a very target rich environment Piggly‘s in their Wiggly’s in there and I think Fred is as well. Lotta back-and-forth between the demons and the LDS, and I think at one point one of the British players starts throwing grenades at us caue, well… we’re at target rich environment. My pig dudes are really good on the melee side of the action.

And around this time, I finally realized that my big ass Demon has a killer special action where I get to swing a couple of levers and cause a lot of chaos. It’s pretty awesome. So my demon flies over the wall and starts hacking the LDS to pieces

The demon does the devils work, and then heads over to the other side of the field to start dealing with the British type dudes.

And of course, the hell night is able to do double range attacks again, which is pretty awesome and he looks pretty gnarly.

Random action shot between the LDS and the stormtrooper type dudes, shooting through windows and what not.

All well, my hell knight and demon clean up the mess on the right side table.

Certainly by this point, the mechanics of the game are going pretty quick for us. And each faction is scoring hits on the other, victory points are being tallied up quickly. As it turns out the storm trooper dudes are getting about three points per round because they’ve been pretty free clear for most of the game. The next couple of rounds take us to the end of the game. The demons take some serious hits when all the pig dudes are gone and my big ass demon is killed, which ended up being really anticlimatic. But I think in the end I ended up with the second highest amount of victory, points, and the game was super enjoyable overall.

Marvel CP - Battle Report

Hello all,

I recently had the chance to get together with Mike and Duncan for some long overdue gaming...and surprise surprise, Marvel Crisis Protocol was the popular choice. We went with our pretty standard layout and scenario for the game...we did switch randomly lay down terrain and what not.

If I remember correctly, Mike was rocking his Sentinel, Colossus, Juggernaut, and a couple of others...I think he had used a few of them at some point before; Duncan hit us again with Malekith and his big kitty, and I think the Russian Doc Octopus (some dude with tentacles), Winter Soldier, and I think Sabretooth. This game gave me the chance to bring in Mr. Reliable...or I should say Doctor "Reliable" Octopus, as well as Hela & Loki, Vision, and Crossbones.

All in all, a fun game was had...

Initial setup...I am at the bottom of the pic, Duncan on my mid-left, and Mike on my upper-right.

Malekith and his big damned kitty. The Winter Soldier is hanging out in their shadow and Sabretooth and Tentacle guy are just south of the yellow taxi car.

Mike and his guys...with a big damned Sentinel looking over everyone.

The "good" guys...or at least partial (okay, maybe only 1 of them) good guys.

The action started to pick up fairly quickly...Doc Octopus squares of against his less-tentacled adversary, and I think he hit him for 4-5 healthpoints with a laser tentacle attack. Crossbones sauntered in and holds one of the portal locations (there are 3 total...I think).

Overview of initial moves...I am moving up slowly with the crew. I have a portal in my control, Vision has a shard or stone, and Hela, Loki, and Doc Oc are in good positions to support next moves.

Doc Oc put the hurt on him, but I think Hela swooped in and knocked down Duncan's tentacle dude. In this case, whenever a figure is KO'd or taken out of the game, Hela would gain a "soul" token that let her add additional dice to attack or defence (she could only have a max of 3 souls at any time). It was a nice touch for this spicy gal.

Duncan moves Malekith in to mess with Mike's Sentinel...some big CGI action went down.

I kept pushing forward with Vision and I may have taken some shots at Juggernaut...Mystere...Mystique...or something like that came out of the right and started to stir up things. Because I had Loki where I did, almost everyone had to pay extra power to make actions take place, he was such a mischievous character.

So I can't remember who did what...but by the end of this turn, we have less-tentacle dude, Juggernaut, Mystique, and Sabretooth KO'ed...Hela was very happy.

Next turn, everyone pops up and we start it all again.

Either Vision or Colossus put the hurt to Winter Soldier...

The chaos continues as Loki KO's Colossus...

...and it starts again...

By the end, we had almost all of Duncan's team were down and out...I think it was a matter of him being stuck between Mike and I, so it was pretty convenient for us to take on his guys. Mike had lost one or maybe two, and I had a couple of characters KO'ed but everyone was still standing at the end.

The crew: Crossbones did a great job of holding the portal, he missed out on all the action; Loki & Hela were very fun...Hela got her soulfood so she was happy, and Doc Frickin Oc was the star of the show. Dr. Reliable struck again.

Marvel Crisis Protocol - Battle Report

Howdy one and all,

I hope you are doing well and that summer-mode is engaged or at least about to be. I had the chance a bit ago to get some Marvel characters on the table with a game against Mike and Duncan. As always these figures are alot of fun to get out, and the game proved to be extremely entertaining.

For my crew, I had Doc Oc (his laser attacks are the best), Deadpool (he looks great on the table), Domino (I haven’t given her a try yet), the Rhino (big rage machine and a lot of fun), and the Hulk (I hadn’t tried him out yet).

For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of Duncan’s figures…except for Malekith…super impressive figure and rage machine. And Mike had an X-Man inspired crew…I remember Colossus and Magneto and that’s about it. Anywho, Duncan had 4 figures in total, and Mike and I each had 5. I can’t remember the scenario specifics, but I do recall having to grab stone shards and holding portals…or some such.

Now the pics…and totally random commentary:

The crew getting ready to rock…Domino and the Hulk are going to push right initially. Deadpool, Rhino, and Doc are going to push left.

Overview of the table. Duncan is coming on mid table on the left; Mike is coming on near the topright portion of the pic, by the sea containers (orange and red). The objectives are red (for the shard) and blue (for the portals) tokens.

Domino moves fast and secures a piece of the stone, and holds one of the portals. The Hulk moves up, having her back…takes him a bit extra to get there (Dom was moving about 2 times as fast as the Hulk).

Mike’s crew starts making their way out of the Construction Yard and edging towards Domino and the Hulk.

On my left, I’m already starting to bump into Duncan’s crew…who I can’t remember, but Malekith and the big damned cat that he is riding is clear to see in the background. Deadpool has one of the shards…and Rhino is working hard to keep up.

Another overview shot…you can see how big the damned cat is…

Doc Oc is making his way to another portal…I think he is actually supporting Deadpool…and his laser attacks are a lot of fun…and if I remember correctly, they don’t take a lot of energy, but are a pretty good attack.

Deadpool runs in and secures the portal. You can see, the Winter Soldier is down for the count, cutdown by Doc’s laser attacks…there you go, I remembered another one of Duncan’s crew…Mr. Bucky Barnes.

The Rhino rushes in to go toe-to-toe with Malekith…and spoiler, doesn’t do well.

The Hulk rushes in to try to help…he does one of his leap attack/moves (I can’t remember which)…to help get there quicker. Domino is holding her own on the right.

There’s a pretty good furball going on between Deadpool, Doc, Hulk, Malekith, and Duncan’s other characters.

Malekith has some demon spin actions that let him move very quickly…so he changes facings and is now behind Deadpool taking him to task.

Colossus makes his way over as well, and gets into the Hulks personal space.

And Malekith is there to cause more trouble.

and Domino has been pretty content holding onto her shard and portal.

By the end of the game, Duncan and I are both down a couple of figures…Mike is in the lead with points for holding shards and portals. But there’s always time for a group shot.
