BRS - MiG Alley...and Beyond MiG Alley

Howdy folks,

I hope all is going well over the Christmas and holiday period for everyone. Continuing on with my latest distraction. Not only have I dipped my toe into the Korean War conflict with Warlord Games Blood Red Skies MiG Alley...I have also recently discovered Lead Pursuit Podcast who has license with Warlord to produce aircraft for said game. AND who also have license to produce aircraft for Blood Red Skies and Lead Pursuit's free expansion rules for beyond the 1950s. You can find them here, Lead Pursuit Podcast

I have 8 aircraft now, some A4's, a couple of F4's, and a couple of Mig 19's...these are 3d printed and are super super sharp looking aircraft. They are probably the cleanest 3d prints I've seen, and certainly some of the cleanest aircraft models I've seen.

The models all came up very quickly, but I gotta say that right now my favourite are the MiG 19’s, they were the cleanest and took the paint really well. The detail and lining really came out well…I am somewhat disappointed with the F4 and A4’s, but they will definitely work for the tabletop.

Enjoy the pics. Take care.

Group shot of everyone…I painted up one of the MiG 15’s with a red nose after seeing a pic of the Soviet Air Forces paint scheme for their “advisors” flying with the North Koreans. I have one MiG 19 in plain gray paint scheme and the other with grey and green…both inspired by North Vietnam Air Force paint schemes. The pic includes aircraft from my previous post…the weather was above freezing today, so it was dullcote day.

The A4 tails were inspired by the paint scheme of the Skyhawk’s that were flying off the USS Independence circa 1965. I think I’ll keep them fairly clean, keep them rather generic for use with other Air Forces.

I am currently waiting for decals for the Phantoms, they will be getting the Sundowners tail…looks very cool and will really top of the F4’s.

Air Cav Photo Op...

Hey folks,

Just a quick post.

As some of you may recall, I recently completed ...the grunts... for my Vietnam Air Cavalry force.  One thing that I had not done yet though, was to get a picture of all the helos and grunts together in one scene.

For those interested in seeing group photos, here you go...

Whites, Reds, Pinks, and Blues - F'ing Air Cav

Howdy all,

While a busy month has kept me away from the computer, I have nonetheless continued to work through my WIP mountain of lead and resin.  Last month I posted an update and progress on my Air Cav Aerorifle hueys (here).

This post is to show the 99% complete on my Air Cav helos...these little beauties took me some time but in the end I really like how they turned out.  I've got a great variety of assets and firepower for my Air Cavalry Troop and when I paint enough boots on the ground I can turn this into a rifle company with some outstanding air support.

All that is left is to get some of the new plastic rotors and finish those up...otherwise, the helos are done.  I am in the process of painting up the blues and have finished 2 of 10 stands of infantry...

Enjoy the pics.  Take care.

Go CAV!!

The entire team...
White Scouts on the back left and right, Red Hogs between them, Cobra gunships for later war period and flying artillery support, the Blue Hueys front and centre, and a Command and Control helo OR Medevac if needed.

C & C bird or Medevac...my plan is to build some markers for the flight stand to designate either

The Aerorifle Blues...taking the fight to the enemy...you still need boots to hold ground.

Door gunner with Cav art on his helmet...first attempt at unit crests by hand...

The Red Aeroweapons or flying artillery...Cobra gunships to deal a high dose of pain to the badguys.
Gatling gun Cobra

Rocketpod Cobra...'Next!'

I've been stuck for how to store this crew...the cost of shipping a custom battlefoam try is at least twice the cost of the tray itself...so, for about $7 Cdn, I went to Michaels and bought a scrapbook container for $3 on sale...and some Gorilla glue and took a bunch of old BF foam as well as Miniatures in Comfort foam and built my own carrying 'tray'...a little caveman but it works.

Boots on the Ground - Air Cav Aerorifle ride...progress shot

Howdy all,

For those that might not remember a couple of my previous posts about my Air Cav unit (Scouts and Hogs) I thought I'd post a couple of progress pictures of my Aerorifle Blue Team hueys.  I've had the majority of the helos for a few years waiting for their turn on the paint bench, and after last years sale by Battlefront I picked up the last helos I needed to fill out an entire aerorifle platoon with an additional bird to act as a Command and Control bird or Medevac flight.

I'm about 95% complete as of last night with the ink and decal work complete...all that's left is to paint up the door gunners.

Anyway, just a quick post...up next I'll finish off some Brit Mark IVs and then I'll either move towards some Cobra gunships or maybe some German Pz IVs...we have a WW2 tank ace campaign coming up...we'll see which way the bench takes me.

Take care all...

the flight all in a row...I finished the left most helo about 2-3 years ago...the remainder I purchased within a year later and then filled out with BF's Vietnam range sale last January.

Happy New Year Vietnam...

Hello everyone,

The final pieces of 2014 and the first pieces of 2015 that I completed were towards the heap of metal from Battlefronts Vietnam range that I am slowly getting finished.  I decided to tackle the HMG nests from the PAVN HQ set as well as the crashed Huey objective marker.

All of the pieces have some great details on them...because of this I decided to try a different approach to completing the bases.  As I didn't want to loose any of the detail amidst the flock, I decided to instead just paint the various colours in lieu.

I'm happy with the finished product.  Perhaps the best reason why is the Huey objective...there is some very detailed woods and foliage details that would be entirely covered up if I chose to flock the base instead.  To complete this, I layered the bases with earth colours and then tried using Vallejo 890 Reflective Green and 833 German Camo Bright Green.  As I said I liked how the models turned out.

I will try a mix of this technique and coloured flock when I get to finishing the infantry.

Take care.

Crashed Huey objective, love the detail on this one.  The root system and fallen tree limbs really bring a great level of detail.  I wanted the weathering on this model to reflect the tropical wet climate of SE Asia...I intentionally went heavy on the streaking to make it stand out...

Couldn't bring myself to cover up these details...

All of them together...nice bit of symmetry...

Random objective I finished that should work for multiple theaters and time periods...
