Week 21 - Doodled Edge/Border - Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to Us!! WOOHOO!

Yes, it's our 3rd birthday this week here at Polkadoodles - oh my, where has the time gone? We're all very proud indeed that some of our original teamies are still with us creating inspiring makes for us all each week, and I have to say a special huge thanks to Enfys, Ruth and Lou for putting up with me for three whole years, you girls rock! (You do too Nikky!!) Of course, I love the WHOLE of my awesome Design Team and they are all uber talented as you all know only too well, so I'd also like to say a big thanks to everyone else on the team wherever they may be in the world for their help in making Polkadoodles and this challenge blog one of THE most inspirational on the planet!

Emma - Hello there, just joining Team A again for the lovely doodled edge challenge. I have used elements from the Sugar Plum Daisy CDROM again...... I just can't stop using this CD, I luuuuurve it so!!!! This little Bee is the BUZZ is he not? I failed on the stashbox stamp element but hey, when I have such a cute little fella like this to craft with, I forgot all about my other stamps.

Anne - I've used papers from the second edition of the Pen and Paper Circle mag and the little sentiment ticket is from the Pretty Tuff CD.

Lucy: This week I decided to go for some lovely bright colours. I used the backing papers from the Sugar Plum Daisy CD Rom and used matching Pro Markers & Flexi Markers to colour in the digi image. I doodled around the edge with a glue pen and then covered in glitter!

Caire P - Since it's my challenge this week I really had to join in with team A (I have recently moved over to B) I have used papers from a free Polka doodles set that came with a crafting magazine recently. Main image from Sundae of Seasons cd, fab fun ladybugs from Sugarplum Daisy cd as is the sentiment tag. With that all important finishing touch, a tad of doodling!

Enfys: A rustic garden sort of card from me this week, image ready coloured from Sundae of Seasons, with some extra blooms cut out and popped on. I added a burlap square, which frayed nicely, so I used a bit of the frayed stuff to make a string bow for the sentiment. Doodled around the edge of the card, and the circle of the image and I was done..... (I forgot about stashbox stamp week, but hey, with images like this, who cares!)

Lisa - 'The Crafting Owl'. Oooh as soon as I saw this challenge I knew it was right up my street! I've used an image from Sugar Plum Daisy and backing papers from Sundae of Seasons.

 

Doreen:  I've used an image from Sugar Plum Daisy and the backing papers is from Sundae of Seasons and Sugar Plum Daisy. I love to mix the paper.

Ruth:  I love this cute bear template from Paper Boutique Vol 3.  I used the A5 size, cut out all the elements and layered them up with foam pads.  The 'gift' is made with an offcut of card that I've doodled around the edge and added a ribbon bow and a die cut number 1

Fliss: I've used images from the Sugarplum Daisy CD and papers are a mix from there and the Pretty Sweet CD. My doodling was inspired by the leafy Martha Stewart punched border and I did a lot of layering for the final design of my creation.

Daniele, for my card I have used the sweet mouse image from The Sugar Plum Daisy Cd coloured in with Prisma pencils, I have doodled lines around the embossed background to create a frame.

Miria I made a quick easel card for a boy's birthday. I used coloured stampies, paper and sentiment from cd Pretty Tuff.  Easy peasy!

Week 3 - Sketch and Blog Candy

Hello everyone and welcome to another week at Polkadoodles!


Woohoo we have a bit of a landmark at Polkadoodles - 1000 Blog followers!! woohooooo!! In celebration of this we will choose 5 random people who leave a comment under this week's post who will each receive a free stamp! But you have to be a follower and you have to leave a comment under the post to qualify. The winners will be announced next week.


Before we get down to business this week, did you all know we now have a great Under 16's monthly challenge over at Diddydoodles! We think it's really important to get the youngsters crafting and give them a bit of motivation so if you have young hands that are always in your craft stuff then please get them joining in! It's all a bit of fun but it's run by kids for kids and we would love it if you can help spread the word please.

So, onto this week's challenge - the sketch! It's my birthday this week so the theme is to make a Birthday Card and follow the sketch. The winner of this challenge will win a free stamp which has not even been released yet so we can't even show you the design, but if you like cute owls you are going to love it!!
Now I felt generous so I've let the Design Team use one of their stamps from their stashbox this week, let's see what they all came up with but please make sure you follow our simple rules when you enter...

Ruth: I've gone with a round card and I've used two butterflies from Sundae of Seasons and added some wire. The ribbon ruffles are made by simply ruffling up ribbon and sticking it down to some very very sticky foam tape (I think its DIY stuff!) Confession time - I can't remember which cd I printed the paper from!!!

Daniele: For my card I used papers from All Around and Everywhere, the bird cage die is from Memory box and I couldn't resist adding feathers. The stamp I have used is from Stampavie but there is also a delightful birdbox on the Cd to go with the papers.

Claire: For my Stashbox stamp card I have used a freebie star stamp from Craft Stamper magazine and also a birthday cake stamp. It's my middle child Caleb's 7th Birthday soon so enjoyed using Nikki's sketch for his card. The papers are from the Magical Winter cd and the alphas are from Sugar Birdies CD..... Just with a little added doodling and gold leaf

Enfys: I made a New Year resolution to use up some of the papers I have printed out from various CD's - the great thing about Polkadoodles CD's is that all the papers seem to coordinate with other CD's - you get so many colour families on each one that it is easy to match papers. The image I used is a Lili of the Valley, coloured with Promarkers (did you know that Nikki is one of the few suppliers to sell markers individually?)

Fliss: I'm on a bit of a nature kick with my cards at the moment so my card here is no exception as I wanted to use this really cute owl from Tattered Angels and I thought the papers on the Pretty Sweet CD a perfect match with their shabby look and gorgeous vintage colours. I stamped the owl with Memento Rich Cocoa and left him uncoloured for impact. I added die cut layers and inking on the edges for emphasis. I finished off with a great sentiment from the Back To Nature CD.

Miria For my card I used a LOTV stamp coloured with Distress, the papers are from Paper Pretties cd, I just added some buttons.

Josie: This week for stash box stamp I used a Lili of the Valley image. I am hooked on the pink and turquoise colours at the moment as well as these papers. They are from the Pretty Sweet and Magical Winter CD Roms.

Net - Hi and oops! I kind of got a bit.... er lost on the sketch! Its sort of in there but the sizes and shapes are a bit different. A case of do as I say not do as I do! My hand immediately went to these lovely dotty papers. I love dots! A new magnolia was inked for the occasion. So please don't be like me follow the sketch! ~slopes off to the norty glitter free corner~

Ashley- For my card I used the Pretty Tuff cd, for the awesome stars and stripes papers and stamp image. I added some cool PTI stamps to create a fun "rock star" theme. A little glitter here a little glitter there and BAM you have a "ROCKIN" card.

Anne...For my card this week I've used papers from Sugar Birdies CD and a stamp from Sparkle n Sprinkle which I've coloured with copics. Some punched flowers and leaves finish the look.

ALAN: For this challenge l went straight to Sugar Birdies CD-Roms 'Collectors Edition' for my backing papers. There is such a wide range that can be used for any occasion. I wanted a softer card creation that l could give to Mum-in-Law on her Birthday. The flowers were again from the Sugar Birdies CD-Rom 'Collectors Edition and were just glued together and a button threaded with Butcher string to give detail.

So there you have this week's entries...aren't they fab!

Emma Hello there, this was a quick make using elements from the M

agical Winter CD, coloured with distress ink all available from the Polkadoodles shop.

Daniele......For my quick card, I kept the colouring to a minimum jus

t using Flex markers to colour the background of the image and scarf, paper and image of Pip is from The Magical Winter Cd part 1,the base of the card was embossed with a snowflake folder.

Clare -This challenge was ideal for me as I needed lots of quick cards for school. I selected a pre-coloured topper from the Magical Winter 1 CD and added a customised greeting for each child, I printed these four to a page and added glitter to all the snow once they were printed (these are only some of them and, all told, I think I spent less than one hour making them all).

Nelly: I used elements from Magical Winter for my quick card...

GDT Stephanie-Emma - I printed a coloured topper from Magical Winter an

d mounted it on some fabric and spotty backing paper. I also added some Candi.

Audrey... For this simple Christmas card I used the CD Sundae Of Seasons. i inked the trees and used 3D dots to give them some dimension and used a corner ticket punch for the top corners of the card.

Enfys: I used ready coloured element from Magical Winter for this quick card - and it shows how versatile this CD is because I printed the background with the star and hills from the Nativity collection, and added houses printed from the bear collection. The houses are pop

ped with foam pads and the sentiment oval is a purchased one - simples!

Colette - I used the trees and reindeer images from a Sundae of Seasons, layered them up in a graphics program and coloured in a sky background, printed them straight onto card, cut, folded, added a ribbon, some glitter to the trees and layered up the reindeer's head, added a couple of Jingle bells (coloured with Promarkers) to his antlers and neck and there you have it, my very quick card.

Louise My card is super quick I have printed out the Christmas tree from Magical winter 2 and added a little glitter.I have cut out a shaped card and added a sentiment.

Joanna: For my card I used a fabulous collection of papers and a pre-coloured image from the Magical Winter CD part 2. I also used a touch of glitter, a few punched snowflakes and a snowflake embossing folder. Once you've decided on the size of your panels, you can cut multiple copies in seconds, which is perfect for "Christmas cards mass production" ;). And if you need any more papers, you can just print them off with a click of a mouse!

Shell-My card this week was mega quick to put together, I've used a pre coloured image from the Magical Winter CD part 1, then simply embossed a panel of white card & added a ribbon and some card candi to finish.....

Joni: S I used the ready colored penquin from the Creative Christmas CD

Norine: I got a little carried away this week and made TWO cards in the time it usually takes me to make one!! That's how quick and easy they were!! Most all of the papers and images come from the Magical Winter 2 cd with a few scraps of green thrown in from other cds. The tree was an easy "build" with scraps and adding a star brad at the top and stitching down the center completes it.

This sweet little girl awed at the sight of a snowflake tree is also from Magical Winter 2, as is the sentiment and other papers. Add a Spellbinders die and some machine stitching around the edge and you've got a quick and easy card!

Shary I made this card real quick! I used the Magical Winter part 2 CD. I printed out a topper, a sheet of patterned paper and a sentiment. I cut out four strips from the paper and glued them to a blank white card. I then layered the topper onto blue card added some stickles and stuck that to the card. I added the sentiment and two punched snowflakes. Done!

Dee : My quick card is made using elements from the Magical Winter CD. I made a square card from kraft card, I tore the backing papers and added some ribbons before adding the sentiment and image.

Miria For my quick Christmas card I used image and sentiment from Magical Winter, the digi is coloured with Zig Kurecolor and Wink of Stella. I just added a ribbon, easy peasy!

Ruth: Super quick cards made with offcuts of white pearl card - the Santa from Paper Boutique Vol 2 has been printed directly onto the card and I've added a glitter border around the edge of the card - I think it took me 15 mins to make 6!

ALAN: For my card l took an image from MAGICAL WINTER cd'c. Just a simple image that after printing l just went over with my Giltter pen and then added some highlights. Then mounted onto some dull silver mounting board and a simple Phrase printed out. There you have it a simple card that took moments to put together.

Emma, hello there, this time I made a gatefold card hiding a Santa from the Magical Winter CD, all coloured with Distress Inks.

Audrey... For this Tri Fold Treat holder I used the CD Sundae Of Seasons. I did some inking on the gingerbread man and used 3D Dots to give him dimension. I used my S.U. Corner Ticket Punch to add a little detail. The secret is the pouch on the inside for Christmas candy.

Colette I have made a card for my grandson, the bottom section of the card front is bowed out and behind the bear I have added a lollipop holder and chocolate lollipop. I have also made up a little verse for the inside of the card to let him know there is a hidden treat. I used images from the Beary Cold section of Magical Winter CD 2 , and added glitter to parts of the bear and some of the snow.

Lana - I decided to do a card for a teenager rather than a small child and use the gift card as the surprise element. I have used the newly released and fabulous CD - Pretty Tuff. I think this little guy looks really festive in his deerstalker hat ;)

GDT Claire - I used the new Pretty Tuff CD to create my explosion box

Enfys: Well considering this is my challenge, I didn't have a clue what I was going to do until I saw the snow boys from the Magical Winter CD and knew I had to build a little scene with them in an Advent calendar for my little grandsons Max and Milo. The drawers are covered in a variety of festive paper scraps, the boys were coloured with Promarkers, and the trees and merry Christmas sentiment were cut with my Cricut. I used those springy thingies you can buy to make the boys and trees stand out. So loads of hidden surprises for them as the little drawers are stuffed with tiny cars, ornaments for their tree, and sweets......

Louise: My card is not really very Christmassy but I set off with the secret element part in my head and wanted to use the rocket paper and cute little boy on the Pretty Tuff CD.The secret element is the bookmark but although not traditional Christmas colours a little boy who love rockets would be happy to get this as a Christmas card.

Claire I have created a magical box and tiny envelope this week for my oldest son Jacob who is 9. I have used the Magical Winter 2 cd and elements from the Polkadoodles magazine/craft set. His Christmas present is hidden well inside and the tiny envelope should hold a music voucher which is evading me at the moment......

GDT Lisa: I made two crafting kits for a child for this weeks challenge. Both projects use images and papers from Double Sprinkles Of Kraft.

GDT Dawn : I used the gorgeously girly Pretty Sweet CD to make my box this week. I used the beautiful papers and a lovely picture of Piper

Fliss I've also made something for a teenager rather than a little one and it has more of a surprise than a secret. All elements are from the Magical Winter CD set and the surprise is the gift card holder on the inside which will hold something for my game and music mad nephews.

Anne - I've gone for an inbetweener (is that a word) Not quite a toddler or a teenager card. I used the Sundae of Seasons CD and began by printing the polka dots straight onto both sides of my card. I then printed out all the elements and folded the bottom of the card up, first cutting our two flaps to make pockets for the tag which I cut with my cricut and the toy voucher which I made again using some elements from the CD. Once I'd all that in place I decorated the front with this cutie patootie. A snowflake and a couple of wee hearts complete the look.

Ashley- I used the lovely Magical Winter CD part II to create this adorable little girls pop up gift card holder. I just love how the sweet images create a magical 3d winter scenery.

ALAN. For this card l used Images from Magical Winter Multi Buy cd's. There is a full 'How to Make on my blog. It is a 3 sided card from 2 sheets of A4 card.
