Last week at the club Neil and I decided to dust down some old figures a have a game of Warhammer 3rd edition. We did put in a few stipulations as it is over 20 years since we played the rules. We each took a level 25 leader and 2 level 5 champions. We didn't bother with piints, just bring some figures and have a game.
I decided on my Dwarves, bringing a unit of elite longbeards, 2 units of clan warriors, 2 small units if crossbows, some giant slayers and of course artillery.
Neil brought some undead led by a vampire. He had 3 units if undead horseman and the rest were skeleton warriors.
The game began with a slow undead shamble towards the dwarven line, who replied with crossbows and artillery fire. The organ gun proving quite deadly. The Undead horseman quickly swept around the flanks and charged into both if my crossbow units. The deathly horseman proved too much and both units fled. Both of my units of clan warriors stepped up to engage the horseman. Both melees lasting a couple of rounds.
The undead infantry continued to advance towards my centre. With the clansman holding off the horsemen my crossbows rallied and returned to the line to hold off another unit of undead cavalry. Then my general led forward his longbeards and crashed into the undead foot. With sharp blades they easily dispatched their foes.
With time running out we called it a day. The dwarves had held off the undead. A very enjoyable game which brought back great memories, even if it did require much looking through the rules.

Wolfie
Picked this figure up from West Wind's Weird World War range. I've painted him up to match the rest of my Norse Bloodbowl team that I painted many years ago.

More Undead
I finally managed to finish my undead cavalry including a mounted Vampire blood knight to lead them. it's only a small unit so not sure how effective it will be. I also managed to add a standard to one of the figures.

Undead Champions
Second post today, just finished the last 3 undead champions for the Undead army I'm putting together. I've also finished off the unit of 10 ghouls, a mounted vampire blood knight and 1 ghost. That just leaves 1 undead horseman and 10 skeletons to complete the start of my force. Sorry only 1 photo as most of them were just crap when I took them this one isn't much better). Will try and wait for a better day to take more photos.

More Pirates
These are of the skeleton pursuasion. I got these from Black Scorpion miniatures at £8 for 4. I've also got the Captain on the painting table, just awaiting his base to be finished and I'll post a picture of him later in the week.
Now some individual shots of the models. These were quite easy and quick to paint, now just got to get some rules and a game sorted for my daughter.
Lastly 4 of the mantic ghouls that I'm going to use to bulk out her undead crew. These are lovely little models and well worth price.

Undead Cavalry
I haven't made much progress lately, but did manage to finish 2 more of my undead cavalry. That only leaves 1 more and a mounted vampire to lead them. I am considering adding a flag to one of the lances but still a bit undecided on how I want it to look.
Now apart from my ACW side project which you can follow on my other blog, I'm at a bit of a loose end for what to do next. The options are as follows
1. Greek Hoplites. Got some figures from 1st Corps and Immortal miniatures just sitting in a box. Always had a soft spot for hoplites but undecided which game to base them for. I've got plenty of WAB armies already and fancy something a bit different.
2. Viking Age. I already have some of these done from the Border Reiver show last year, along with a long ship and buildings. With the release of the new SAGA rules I may give these a bit of a dust off.
3. French Indian War. Always fancied gaming this period in 28mm. It lends itself well to small tables, plenty of terrain and some quite colourful troops. The downside is I would be starting from scratch and that means money.
4. Complete my Sci-fi and Undead troops. the difficulty with these is that they lend themselves more to a small side project. Adding a bit f variety to the painting table.
Still I've got plenty of time to decide.

Work in progress
Finally a bit of sunshine and I was able to get out and take some photos. First up Loudon's foot for the ECW. These are my second Covenanter unit. The figures are all plastics from Warlord Miniatures.
Next up a couple of undead horseman. I've done some very basic conversions on some old Bretonnian Knights. Mainly a few head and arm swaps from some undead spares I had from Mantic and GW. The colour scheme is a basic dark red to keep them matched in with the rest of the army.I've started painting the next two with a further 2 more to complete the unit.

Update
Finally managed to finish Loudon's Infantry regiment to complete my brigade of Scots Infantry. These have taken some time and I had to force myself to finish them. Same old story when I'm not gaming a particular period I struggle to paint the units. Hopefully with 2 of the chaps at the club picking up Battalia box sets from Warlord, I'll get some impetus to finish the last foot regiment and 3 troops of cavalry.
Part of the distraction lately is I've been putting together some 28mm ACW (details on my other blog) and some converted undead horseman. I'll get some pictures done when the weather finally improves and I can get in the garden.

Addtional forces
First up a couple of photos of the completed Revenants. I'm very impressed with these figures. Even did a simple conversion on one figure, adding scythe from a GW sprue.

Next up my Undead Champion and a sorceress. The Champion as a GW Grave Guard Champion and the Sorceress is an old Dark elf model.

Finally some of the good guys, local militia. These are predominately GW mordheim figures with a couple of the old Bretonnian archers added in for more variety.

Terror of the Lichemaster
After reading the Jervis Johnson article in the latest White Dwarf It brought back fond memories of the Terror of the Lichemaster scenario pack and the follow up Revenge of the Lichemaster in a Citadel Journal. Although both items are no longer in my collection I still have part of the monastry hidden in my loft. It got me thinking about putting together some forces for a re fight. It also helps that Mantic Miniatures have produced some lovely figures recently especially their undead figures and so a first purchase was made for some of the Revenants, to act as an elite unit. I also dug around in my old collection and manged to scrape together a few useful figures from Citadel, namely their original Skeleton horde plastic figures.

Lastly the remnants of 2 versions of the GW plastic skeletons. The first unit I've managed to paint the bones the same as the Revenants, I've also got another 4 on the painting table with a metal GW Grave guard champion to finish the unit. The second unit were painted many years ago and I feel rather nostalgic about them and cannot bring myself to re paint them (did manage to re do the bases)
Next up I've ordered a skeleton regiment from Mantic to boost my undead forces, will possibly add some zombies and ghouls.
From the Revenge of the Lichemaster I'm going to replace the Skaven with Beastmen, just because I've got a whole load sitting in a box looking for an excuse to be painted and in these times of austerity don't want to be seen frivolously buying more figures be she who must be obeyed.
First up the original Mouth of Sauron produced by citadel miniatures. Luckily I still had both the foot and mounted figures. They look suitable as Liche. (much prefer these to the newer version from GW LOTR figures)
Next up I've managed to paint up 8 of the Mantic Revenants, must say these are lovely figures and well worth the price. I've settle on a dirty red, wanting them to look as uniformed as possible to represent an elite unit.
