After a small club game on Thursday night I decided to add a few extras to my Crimson fists space marines. Going through the old spares box I was able to add some extra close assault troopers, a couple of heavy weapon troopers and enough tactical marines to round them out at 3 squads.
Next up was some vehicles to make the force more mobile especially as I envisage games where they are responding to attacks or out on patrol. I've been able to add a dreadnought, a very old rhino kit from my youth. The other 2 vehicles are from Old Crow. The beauty of Rogue trader is I can create my own stats for these.
So I reckon that's 2 weeks work to get a usable force on the tabletop to face the Orks. Now I can get back to my Crimean War project.
The force consists of
1 captain
1 Librarian
1 assault squad
3 tactical squads

Battle for Rynn's World
One of my side projects that I dip into now and again is my Rogue Trader era Orks. I always keep an eye on EBay and managed to pick up a few extra figures. First up are 2 heavy weapon figures, both armed with heavy plasma guns.
Next up was a find, 6 partially painted figures which included the 3 command figures for the Ork Raider boxed set. This brings me to 3 completed sets with a couple of spare troopers. I basically just finished these figures off for speed.
Now I did a re-fight a few years back of the Battle of the farm scenario in the back of the rulebook. I had to use my Black Templars as l didn't have any Crimson Fists. Now it was time to correct that after committing to run a Rogue Trader game this week. So a rummage amongst the unpainted pile of figures produced 20 marines. With only a couple of days to go these got a pretty basic paint job, but good enough to satisfy me. Now I can run a mini campaign on Rynn's World.
The force is made up of a Captain, an assault squad and 2 tactical squads. All are under strength which helps depict the state of the Crimson Fists during this war.
I still need to source some decals for the shoulder pads. I do have some but cannot recall where l stored them.

Orktober II
Well I managed to squeeze in a second Orktober post. 2 more Ork Mobs and a couple of gretchin hanger ons. These guys are all plastic figures.
Quite pleased with how these guys turned out. Really help fill out the Nobz mob. The gretchin will always be useful as a screen to shield these guys before they can get into combat.
Do here is the mob in all its glory. A mix of metal and plastic models. Still got 2 more to complete.
Now not strictly Ork related, but close enough. I also completed a Mordor troll to lead my rather numerous orc and goblin army in games of Dragon Rampant. I picture him as Gothmog.
Not bad for a bit of an interlude to the Great Northern War project, more of which shortly.

October or Orktober??
Well for the first time I've managed to actually paint a handful of orks in Orktober. I'll be adding these to my growing horde.
First up are a couple of plastic Nobz from the Black reach boxed set. Quite quick and easy to paint these guys up. I'll add the 4 later this month. There is also a plastic gretchin added to the mix.
Now compared with more modern sculpts these aren't too bad. Much better than the boyz. I still prefer the original Rogue trader era figures and here are 2 more from the Space Ork Raiders boxed set.
Well better get back to some historical figures.

Painting update
Following my battlefield trip I haven't been able to settle in to any particular project. Instead I've been finishing off some odds 'n' sods. First up is some Rogue trader era space orks with a couple of gretchin. I've tried to keep them in the style of the rest of the army.
I was pleased to get a hold of the 2 squad leaders as that gives me 2 complete sets of the Space Ork Raiders boxed set. I just need them again along with the Thrugg bullneck figure and that's 3 complete sets.
Next up was some GNW Russian Dragoons. These were 3 additional squadrons for the Permski regiment, bringing them up to full strength of 6 squadrons. The figures are all from Warrior miniatures.
This is brings me close to the end of stage 1 for the Russians. Just a light artillery battery to do. I then need to decide if I want to expand them to refight battles like Poltava. That would be a lot of work and not sure I can justify it.
Lastly at the club a couple of the guys picked up the WW2 fighter aircraft game Blood Red skies. Already played a couple of games and really enjoyed them, so decided to pick up some Yak1s. I did commit that war gaming sin of fielding them unpainted as they had just arrived in the post. So last night I did a quick paint job on them. Serviceable for the table top.
I might picked up the game itself just for the Spitfires and 109s.

Rogue Trader Orks with extras
Even though I have mainly concentrated on my Great Northern War armies I have been running a mini side project on expanding my original Rogue Trader ork army. Though it is still not complete, which project ever is, here is an update of my progress.
First up is some of the rank and file. These are all metal figures from the original Space Ork line. There are quite a few from the Ork Raiders boxed set. Just need a couple more figures and I'd have 3 complete sets.
Not a balanced army by any means but I don't care. It's based upon figures that I like. Next up some of the extra mobs that all armies need. There are 2 trukk mobs from the old Gorkamorka range ably supported by a couple of buggies. I like these figures as they fit in with the Rogue trader era figures unlike the more modern gorilla looking figures.
Now no Ork army should be without some dreadnoughts or killer kans as they are now called. So far I have a mob of 5 models including a Rogue trader era sculpt, had to heighten his base as the others dwarf him.
Of the newer Ork models I do like the metal Nobz figures that were produced following the release of Gorkamorka so some of these were added to support my Warboss. The boss figure is built around the Ghazgull model with a few adaptions as the power claw was missing. Lastly there is a small mob of grots with a few still to be added.
Once again I have a hankering to get some use out of these, hopefully as part of a campaign or linked games.
