Wounding with intent - RT Era Assault units

First RT post of the week and it gets brutal. Over the last week I have wheeled and dealed my way to secure two great Assault units for use in the force. Whilst one of them might not be fully RT it is close enough to do me and will certainly hurt once on the table top.

First up is my new Terminator assault squad, whilst not an RT unit rules wise I felt the need for them in the current edition out weighed that.

where possible I have stuck to the RT choices, in particular with the squad Sergeant. sticking to the traditional power sword and storm bolter.

Next up is two lightning claw armed terminators, the base models as far as I cant tell are RT genuine and I the claws whilst not RT may have been released at a similar time, either just before or early 2nd edition so kind of counts, but the style of the pads matches the normal RT terminators I have.

They are supported by two thunder hammer wielding beasts, as with above the base models as far as I cant tell are RT genuine but I think the storm Shields are possible late second early third edition, but I am happy with them.

My other assault unit is actually two small 5 man units, although I guess it could be one massive 10 man one, I now have enough metal RT jump packs to convert the ten RTB01s in to assault troops over the coming week. The marines are in parts which is nice and makes it good to carry out simple conversions, keeping as much original as I can.

The packs are in great condition and just sprayed black, must say when the arrived I certainly knew when they hit the door mat, these things weigh a ton!

So those are the first bits in the week and it does look like once completed the force will definitely have some teeth. More to come later in the week.

Go Hard or Go Home - RT Terminators and Dreadnought on the horizon

Latest gatherings for the Rogue Trader or early 40,000 force are here and despite one slight issue, I appear to have lost a thunder hammer and can't find a replacement, the elites are in the house.

The large collection of terminators and a second Dreadnought now give me some flexibility in what I can field and they hopefully add some punch to the force

I know there are more than a squad of five but there are some extras to add some more options in

cyclone missile launcher for some long range fun and games

storm bolter and chain fist, because you cant go wrong with them.

Sergeant armed with a power sword, because classic load outs are the way forward

basic trooper again with power fist and storm bolter

Heavy flamer and chain fist, used to be one of my favourite loads

Assault cannon, because your really have to get some spinning barrels of death

Thunder hammer and storm shield for either a sergeant or just fun, shame I lost the hammer and can't find another one.

This one I am very please with, this is my Terminator Captain complete with his digital weapons power fist, this is likely to be the only bare headed model in my force!

Finally a second dreadnought to add to the list, weirdly lots of stuff seems to be coming along in twos as you should see later in the week with what should be the last reveal post

so those are my elites choices, I'm still stumped as to what to use or how to do an assault squad but that can wait.

The Terminator Armour Open Challenge - Completed Submission 5

Details of entry 5 for the Terminator challenge, including the pre-painting picture:

Name: Chris
Model Details: Ultramarines captain in terminator armour. Armed with a power sword and storm bolter. I am aware there is already literature around the captain of the first company, and having not read the recent novels I wouldnt want to upset anybody by referring to him as such. So really he's just a generic ultra captain :)
Parts list:
FW Lugft Huron body, arms and base. FW Culln head and power sword. FW ultramarine icons. Grey Knight terminators arm, storm bolter and hand.
Pre-Paint Picture:

Completed Pictures:

Notes:
I'm very happy with the way my entry turned out... it was quite nice to actually finish on time as well ;)

The conversion work was more involving than planned, but I think it was a success. The most difficult part was undoubtedly removing the lions head from the right shoulder pad. I had to resculpt portions of the the wings before attaching the Ultramarine icon and filling the gaps.

This was the first time I've used the new paint range in anger, and I was very impressed. The blue for the majority of the armour was done with Macragge blue, washed with Drakenhof nightshade, and highlighted with Altdorf guard blue. I purchased Guilliman blue to glaze it, but didn't end up using it for fear of ruining the finish. I'll test it on another model at some point and come back to my terminator at a later stage if I like it. Most of the detailing was completed with the old paint range including burnished gold, devlan mud, and mechrite red.

Overall I'm happy with it, but if I were to do it again, I would probably reverse the colour scheme on the ultramarine icon (so the 'U' is gold), as it is I'm not sure it it stands out enough from the wings in white.

Let me know what you think in the comments :)
