More fun with contrast paints ... and welcome 2021

I have been fairly busy hobbying but unmotivated to post - not sure why that is. I find it useful to keep track of projects here and to occasionally share and hear from co-hobbyists. Somehow COVID makes everything a chore!

Anyhow - here is the assortment of stuff I have done over the past few weeks including the holidays. Almost everything done with contrast paints as I test them out:

More Mantic Clansmen:

Mantic Scarecrows:

Mantic Spectres:
Reaper townies

Assorted Reaper adventure figures:

Reaper big orcs and a bat covered tombstone:

Mantic Snow Trolls:

GW Dwarves

A Reaper worm
Mantic Butchers:

Mantic assorted Nightstalker figs:

I now have about a dozen or so contrast shades and have experimented with mixing them to get some of the intermediate shades for the Nightstalkers. I think they work pretty well on figs that have a lot of rough textures, not so great on smooth surfaces.

I'm better at painting than posting...

Again - a long lag since the last post, but stuff is coming off the table regularly.

Ten more Celtic warriors for Jonathan - 30 more to go!

A battery of 20mm Newline French artillery and a General for the Lasalle project

Another artillery battery and a regiment of line infantry - these are the last units to complete my French Peninsular Lasalle army, and I have reached the bottom of the barrel for figs. Yes these are venerable Airfix bros!

And finally, a couple of test figures from Mantic - the middle dude is a Northern Alliance clansman, flanked by two spectres from the Kings of War starter set.

Soviets, a Stormraven, and other Stuff!

I have been behind in posting, but productive given options for what to do in my spare time!

First off is a spare BMP I had kicking around for Team Yankee. Did both hulls so it could stand in for either a BMP-1 or BMP-2.

Then a random   Bones model - in this case the Eye of the Beholder which I will probably use in one of my Kings of War armies as some kind of monster. I think he came out pretty well.

An Ironclad Dreadnought - who will be a passenger on the last piece of my Imperial Fists army - the Stormraven (below). The plan is to drop this little angry bar fridge in the backfield of the opponent riding shotgun with a squad of Terminators up nice close and personal.

Arm options:

And here is a batch of 10mm light horse for my Byzantine project that have been half done for eons. Finished them off. I am quite looking forward to the launch of the new version of MeG (Mortem et Gloriam) this weekend which I want to try for my 10mm stuff.

And of course the Stormraven. This has been in progress for quite a while. Lots of detail and with all the doors and windows - painted all of the interior as well. This completes my 2k of Imperial Fists. Now I just need the isolation to end so I can play again!!!

Kings of War Forces of Nature and Imperial Fists

With the 3rd edition of Kings of War recently dropped, and an upcoming couple of local tournaments, I decide to assemble a new fantasy army. I decided to go with a Forces of Nature theme, and here are some of the core bits including Earth Elementals, a unicorn, a griffon, swampy (both the griffon and swampy are played as beasts of nature) and swarms of vicious wee beasties (the blobs). This army will have a decidedly "heavy" theme featuring 3 hordes of large infantry (others in progress) and five monsters.

I also finished the core of my next 40k Imperial Fist derived chapter - this is basically the Prospero box set painted in yellow including the Custodes, Tartaros terminators and Sisters.
