Bit of this, bit of that

An eclectic range of figures came off my bench in the past couple of weeks. First off, some Necron conversions - flayed ones and deathmarks converted from warrior bodies - to add a sniper team and some melee to my Necron kill team for the Urban Conquest campaign I have started with a few buddies.

Some ECW commanders, including two different Rupert's, a Lord Byron and a Lord Minimus.

And a bunch of French gendarmes for KoW historical late medieval armies. Nice figures from Foundry.

And a Bolt Action 28mm grenadier test figure.

Blackstone Fortress and some Gauls for a change

I picked up Blackstone Fortress at a Boxing Day sale over the hols and started with the easiest models - sentry drones, Ur-ghuls and a couple of mutant imperial guard.

Then my chum Jon expressed an interest in playing some Warhammer Ancient Battles so he can get motivated to finish his Imperial Romans, this inspired me to dig out my Celtic hordes and even paint a blister of Foundry Gauls that have been in my unpainted Ancients box forever. Nice figs - as one expects from Foundry. I experimented with doing flesh by airbrush and wash. Always fun to paint the hairy guys!

English longbowmen

I finally tackled some gems hidden away in the lead mountain - 24 classic 28mm Foundry and Citadel longbowmen. These are great figs - I think they might be Perry sculpts from years back. Based individually for Lion Rampant to fight Scots and French.

Landsknechts

I did my remaining Foundry Landsknechts based for DBA-RRR - hoping for a conversion to DBA 3.0 one day. These were fun to paint - free to use any part of the colour palette after all.

Carthaginian war elephant and velites

The last stuff to be finished in 2014 is a Foundry Carthaginian war elephant with howdah - nice model that I've been meaning to tackle for some time:

And a few stands of velites by Crusader - I love Crusader sculpts, they are definitely on the chunky side, but always a treat to paint:

Byzantine cavalry for Saga

To make up the balance of my 6 point Byzantine warband for Saga here are the hearthguard Kavallroi - a double size unit of lancers and a supporting unit of archers. Lancers are Old Glory cataphracts and the archers are Foundry Late Romans. LBM buckler transfers.

Late Roman command and cavalry

The last few stands for my MayDay game are complete, these a couple of stands of cavalry and a commander. Foundry again, shield decals are Warlord auxilia leftovers but do the trick:

Auxilia palatina

Slow month on the paint table, busy month at work including a week in a hotel conference room in Ottawa adjudicating a national research grant competition, followed by a week of recovering from a nasty rhinovirus one of the other group members brought back from Africa. Thanks for that!

But I did finish a few more stands of late Roman foot for my MayDay game in the meantime- these are auxilia by Foundry. Now I just have a few stands of mounted to finish and it's ready to go.

Maximillian Imperial army complete

Here is my completed DBA-RRR (I/9a) army of Maximillian Imperial (1494-1506) which is decidedly Germanic in flavour. There are 3 men-arms (Kn) including the General, 4 Landsknecht pike (Pk), 2 supporting verlorene haufe with halberd (Bd), 4 arquebus (2 as Sh, 2 as Sk), 1 great gun (Can). Figures are all Foundry. I will now work on assembling a French army featuring Swiss mercenaries as opponents.

Renaissance Great Gun

Wargames Foundry Great Gun with Landsknecht crew- based for DBA - RRR.

On another note, sure is irritating how I can no longer save text boxes in Blogger. Like, WTF? What's wrong with leaving things alone? I have not been able to update any of my sidebars for more than 2 weeks now. I've sent feedback off into the void several times now...grrr.....

Gendarmes

Two bases of Foundry Gendarmes for my DBA-RRR project - these will be in the service of Maximillian.
