Spotlight: Deadzone Plastics Review

Tom at Cymbeline Games recently passed me some of the new Deadzone plastics to have a look at and paint up a few for him:

First up is one of the Plague Zombies from the Apokalypse set:

This is a quality kit, lots of variation is possible within even a large unit so you can build every member uniquely. The kit comes with separate heads (Some with a helmet), torsos, arms and legs so you can build up dead Corp troopers and civilians to your hearts content.

Next up is a Forgefather in Forge Guard Armour:

These I have been waiting to see since they were first previewed in the Deadzone kickstarter and im not disappointed! The kit comes with separate shoulder plate, torso, arms, legs and gun. Most of the parts are completely interchangeable but a few are lettered up as they will only fit certain torsos etc. There is a variety of weapons provided such as big cannon attachments but I went for a simple machine gun for my demo model.

Lastly is an Enforcer in Peacekeeper Armour:

Peacekeeper Armour is bigger than the standard Enforcers and was first seen on the original metal Captain that I painted up a couple of years ago for Cymbeline Games also. Like the pervious kits there are plenty of build options for these with separate heads, torsos arms and legs, and again a few are lettered up. I left the mold line on the front leg to show how small they are and it only takes a few seconds to clean these newer plastics up.

These kits really do set a new benchmark for Mantic, the Kings of War zombies and skeleton's were for ages my favourites they make but these are a hole new level of awesome! When Warpath gets its revamp im sure it will be something quite special given how good the current Deadzone goodies are.

Cobby gets into Dreadball

Regular viewers will have seen a few posts over the years showing some of my stepsons early efforts in painting some of his little men. Recently we have been playing quite a bit of Dreadball, and Jacob asked for a Teraton team for his birthday a few weeks ago so he could paint it up himself:

He's done a pretty good job with these, and with some more practice he'll be crushing my humans haha! I am planning an Asterian team to use in our next dreadball league at the club so I will bump them up then schedule to get some games in with him.

He also painted up some of his forgefathers for warpath:

I love the forgefather range, its really quite unique and characterful, They are one of the armies im looking at when warpath gets the kickstarter treatment next year hehe

Stage 4 - Highlights

I used the new wildrider red and a steady hand to do the hardlining on the armour plates, and auric gold for the legs/arms section. The eyes were done in celestia grey, with pallid flesh points, as was the powersword on the squad leader.

I have the bases to complete for sure, and im debating another targeted highlight on parts of the armour, but dont know what to use to avoid it looking silly, any suggestions guys?

Partners in Crime

Fanplastic Little Men has its first commission!

My good mate Tom Pugh of Cymbeline Games (http://www.cymbelinegames.blogspot.co.uk/) has asked me to paint up his Enforcers from Mantics Warpath game for him to demo and display with.

I have been given free range on paint scheme, i jokingly said how about Iron Man and he said hell yeah... so, Iron Man it is haha.

Cymbeline Games can supply a large range of games and hobby supplies, and Tom is more than willing to put in the legwork to source stuff from "outside the box", and can often get Mantic stuff ahead of time... My son jacob recieved his warpath several weeks early as Tom told Ronnie it was for his birthday!

I will also be painting up his demo set of Dread Ball teams, and will be posting up early pics and a good review of this awesome game in due course.

I am returned!

Its been a mad few weeks, my family of 3 is now a family of 5! My girlfriend gave birth to twin girls on sunday morning :-D

We have slowly been getting back to normality, and i was able to make Salute to demo kings of war for Mantic Games. A cracking day, and one of the goodies i was able to pick up was a pre-release of the Veer-Myn Night Spawn...
