No, not THAT kind of time travel!!!
(I should be so lucky to find myself in the 16th century surrounded by Grimm & Co. donning their kilts and, with their deep Scottish accents, rolling those R's next to my ear).
What I'm really speaking of is perusing some of the older posts on the KMM forum the other day. I came across one of my favorite threads, courtesy of Liberty/Anny.
Here was her question....
If you could go into KMM's Highlander/Fever world or be written into that world who would you want to be? Not someone already existing in the story but someone new.
Would you be you, something similar to the real you but more (or better) or completely recreate yourself?
And here was my contribution...
(Umm... If you know nothing of the HL series, you're about to become really confused).
What would you look like?
Like someone else answered, I would look like me, only with redder hair. I'd keep my blue eye color, too. I might want to be a tad shorter though. Oh! I’d also want my hair to be wavy and not plastered to my head like some dead animal. (If you live in the hot/humid South, you know what I’m talking about it). So, I want Julia Robert’s hair in my story.
What's your personality?
Same as it is now, although if I found myself in the past at some point that would likely change me a bit. I've always felt out of place in this time, but what if I hated it when I went to Drustan and Dageus's time? Thank Heavens for those stones!
Any quirks? bad habits? talents?
Oh dear. Can't even begin to ponder on this. I'm sure my quirks and bad habits will be plentiful, but my man will learn to accept them. Lol!
Talents?
Umm... no supernatural powers or anything like that. I think I’d make a bumbling sorcerer. I'd likely turn my hunky, heroic Highlander into a Highland cow wearing Dorothy’s red slippers or something. So I think I'd stick to photography. I think I'd be good at caring for my man, too - without being his slave of course.
What about your name?
I'd keep my first name but would definitely change my last.
Would you be human, fae, or somewhere in between?
Human.
Give a short bio of you (or your character).
Lonely Texan visits Scotland. Runs into Gerry “I’m a bad boy with a good heart” Butler, whom falls deeply in love with me. After I slip and fall inside a cave and on top of a sleeping Highlander named Drustan, Gerry lands on top of both of us.
And nearly kills us in the process, as he’s still all bulked up from his training in 300.
Throughout the story poor, poor Kristin has to decide between not two, but three men. (This is before Chloe, so Dageus is quite the bad boy pretending to be his brother for a time, only in the process he falls in love with me). To my glee, they all look at me and say to themselves – “Mine.”
Eventually Dageus, Drustan and Gerry brawl over who has rightful claim over me. And I'm not talking about some sissy boy, amusing, pansy-ish fight like Colin Firth and Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones's Diary. I'm talking swords and druid magic here.
But... after many moons of watching their fighting, I decide I don’t want to end up with The Three Stooges after all.
Fighting is sooo barbaric, I tell myself at seeing their beautiful faces bloodied and bruised when I would have gladly married them all. (Hey, this IS fiction). So I take my chances with the stones. I return to Texas and settle on buying a dog or cat. They’re much easier to clean up after and don’t talk back.
But after a few weeks I realize that dogs pee on the new carpet and cats shed and cough up hairballs. I also miss hearing that Scottish lilt everytime I hear a simple "Woof" or "Meow." So I decide to have faith that the one Highlander meant for me will find a way to come back to me.
Here, the story will transform into one of those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books that I used to read as a kid. Some choices will end tragically, while others will end happily ever after.
If you haven't yet read Karen's Highlander series, please read the synopsis of each book. I even have them on my old website.
Though to be honest, I think a couple of the backcovers make the series sound nothing like the treasures that they are. Trust me, I am VERY picky about romance novels, and these are FANTASTIC stories that aren't at all hokey and with one-dimensional characters. This series will ruin real men for you forever, that's for sure. Lol! The hero and heroine's relationships are well thought out. (In A LOT of books I read, it's the "love at first sight" ordeal which isn't convincing to me at all. IMHO, Karen and Diana's main characters are leagues ahead of other novels out there).
My favorite highlanders are definitely Drustan, Dageus and Grimm. (Although they ALL really are wonderful).
PS:
It would help to read the series in order (I didn't and did okay), but Kiss and Dark MUST BE READ IN THE CORRECT ORDER!!
And speaking of time travel....
I found this a while back. Lol!
