Ooooh, Poor Nana!

Can I start sobbing now? I miss the classics.

This was the kids' and mine's favorite Disney movie when they were little. We'd make a huge tent in the living room with all the necessities inside; the television, kid-sized table and chairs to eat at when we tired of the carpet, a tiny "fireplace" and "fridge." Our dogs (and sometimes the cats) would join us. We'd feast on the best and healthiest foods; popcorn, brownie's, Doritos, and then Coca-Cola or my famous sweet tea in a sippy cup.

We even grew our own "pixie dust" in Nanny's flowerbeds. (We had those purple Agapantha plants, whose common name is "Peter Pan." That's what gave me the idea. Those children truly believed I grew real pixie dust! Whenever they felt sick or got a little boo-boo, they'd ask for the pixie dust to put on a bandaid or pour inside their tea. We called it invisible pixie dust, of course, because that was the strongest type there is. Lol! When they wanted to see the non-invisible pixie dust, I got out a little wooden box of it to show to them. It was gold glitter, which of course they didn't know about. As far as they knew, anything I told them was the gospel).

Ahh, those were the days. Nowadays they don't believe anything that I say... being teenagers that know everything, ya know... although when they were still pretty young and living in Austin it did take a little longer for my nephew to become as skeptical as his sister. Lol!

"Hook" was our other favorite Disney movie. I think the kids watched this one more than even the cartoon! Lukie was REALLY into it.

But Autumn... why the princesses of course!

When she could barely sit up, she was OBSESSED with Ariel singing "Part of Your World." I had never in my life seen such a fascination with a song before. She especially loved it when Ariel was singing to Eric on the beach.

And of course there's "Beauty and the Beast." Even today we still watch this. (She and everyone still say I'm "Belle." I don't see it though. I think it must be the hair and my obsession over the Beast. I do LOVE that beast!!! I'd marry him if he weren't a different species.... and a cartoon).

Pics and video from Grandma's birthday:

Note: The vids are very short and rather boring. As always, the camera battery was about to croak.

Oh! I forgot to mention the other day that while we were driving up to College Station, we saw some of the trail ride for the rodeo!

I am so in love with the trees where Mom's Granny is buried. This used to be such a pretty cemetery. It's still nice, but a few years ago they moved Grandma's little schoolhouse. It was a one-room schoolhouse dating back to at least the early 1900's.

I was LIVID when they moved it, and put an ugly row of sheds in it's place. I got to walk inside that schoolhouse when I was a teenager, during a family reunion. I loved it so much that I put it in my first two books that I wrote.

I've always loved this. My Uncle Fletcher (who died this past year; I didn't really know him) built this for his brother out of stones from his old house. I think it's so sweet and UNIQUE!

Today we had some BEAUTIFUL weather!

I took this video last week. WHY is there a trail of squeaky babies leading to my bathroom?

I guess the doggies are setting traps for me so they'll know where I am. They do tend to go in there with me in the mornings when I'm getting ready. Izzy even cries for me not to leave, so I guess this trail of squeaky toys is her way of microchipping me. Lol!

Miscellaneous:

- The same cat - "Princess" - is still at PetCo. I wish she could find a good home soon! She's a shy little girl that was abandoned there at the store. She looks a lot like my brother's cat, Sadie.

Idol - Group Night

Current Mood: Photobucket

Photobucket

I finally got around to watching last night's Idol. I have a splitting headache right now, so I'll try not to babble too much.

Just remember that the key word here is "try." Lol!

Photobucket

Jordan Dorsey - Needs to get over himself.

Tiffany Rios - Definition of "snob" and a few other words in the dictionary I'd rather not list as they aren't PG-rated.

My condolences go to her family, for her having to return home.

Ashley Sullivan - I think watching her rollercoaster emotional state is why I have a migraine right now. I wish she would just go away.

Rob Bolin - I like Rob, and even though he wasn't great last night I'm a little sad to see him go.

Chelsee Oaks - I think she's really great.

Jacqueline Dunford - Should have been let go. I think she was a disaster last night.

Scott McCreery - His snobbery surprised and disappointed me. (Just walking off on Brett after he sang, and the whole Jacee ordeal). Still, in the end he surprised me again with all those tears. I'm not sure whether he regrets his behavior over Jacee because it was wrong, or because it made him look bad.

My gut tells me his conscience finally kicked in, and perhaps being on Idol will temper that arrogance. (A lot like David Cook said about his own experience. I LOVE David Cook, and he did confess that in the beginning he was a little cocky but that the show cured him of that).

By the way, I think Scott will go far no matter what. He doesn't need Idol. His voice is so unique and I can easily imagine hearing him on the radio right now.

Lauren Alaina - Another fantastic one. I'm really not a fan of female singers, but I think she's really, really, REALLY good. She seems like a nice person, too, and I think she'll go far in the competition.

I think she'll make it to the top 3 at least.

Adrian Michael - I really liked this guy. He looks so clean cut and has a nice voice. I was surprised to see he was from Pearland. (Before moving here, I lived there for 23 years).

Casey Abrams - I didn't love him last night, but he's still one of my favorites.

Okay, I think he IS my favorite.

Chris Medina - I liked him better before, but I still think he's good.

Brett Loewenstern - Most definately one of my favorites! I love the tone of his voice, and he seems like a really honest, sweet guy. I LOVE him!

Denise Jackson - Fantastic!

James Durbin - This guy isn't a singer. He's a cryer and a screeaaameeeeer! I really hope he and Ashley Sullivan never hook up. ('Like attracting Like' and all).

If they ever do get together, I'm afraid their tears will drown at least the Continental United States, and James's cockatiel-like screeching will cause the earth's poles to shift.

Wait a minute?! I think I just solved the mystery of 2012!

Jacee Badeaux - I love, love, LOVE this kid! First of all, he's a sweetheart. Second of all, he's a trooper, and third.... he can actually sing. His voice is really sweet.

I think he needs to project his voice a little more, but there's just something about him that I love!

Matthew Nuss - Okay, I don't know what's going on with his hair but I love this guy's voice! I can't wait to hear him sing again.

Carson Higgins - Yes, he's goofy but the guy can sing. He's interesting and different, which I really like.

The Minors - (Sorry, I can't remember all their names). The mothers got on my nerves, and I really can't understand how the judges thought they were the best group. I mean I really, really didn't get that but... I honestly loved their reactions to making the cut. I thought it was really sweet to watch.

Wintry Weather & Scratch-Off's

Current Mood: Photobucket

Photobucket

It's very cold, windy (up to 35 mph was the prediction last night) and drizzly out, but thankfully it's warm and cozy inside. The high right now is only 29 degrees!

It says online that it feels like 15, and we received 0.1 inches of snow. Lol! Mom just brought in the garbage can and recycling bin, and the bin was frozen to the ground!!!

Most of the day I think it was around 34. We even saw a little bit of sleet. I wish there was more, because that was actually exciting! (Pathetic, I know, but we never get to see sleet around here. I mean, ICE falling from the sky?) Photobucket

I feel sorry for Dad. The high today in his neck of the woods was 5 degrees! Right now it's 2 degrees there, and tonight it'll be -14!

Photobucket

Okay now.... the weather never looked or sounded sooo gooood as this:

I had another dream about scratch off tickets last night. I bought around 10 tickets, but something like 60 or 100 of them spew out of the machine!

I was so embarrassed because people were watching, and it was an honest mistake. The machine just went crazy and I was stuck there trying to decide which tickets to take that I had actually paid for.

I didn't want everyone to see what was going on, but in the back of my mind I was thinking to just take all the tickets anyway. I mean, it was the machine that screwed up and not me. Lol!

Bitter Disappointment

Photobucket

No snow. It just doesn't want to come near Spring, Tx. That ever-hopeful 70% chance of snow at night and 70% chance in the morning turned out to be a dud prediction.

I have no snow pictures and video to share (obviously), so here are some of the birds. (Whoopti-doo, right? Pictures of cute birds which I can take any time of the year).

Ice at 3pm / Ice again

As you can see, there's not even that much ice. I could have crushed some ice cubes from the freezer and tossed it in the yard to achieve the same effect. :/

(Sorry for the lousy color. Not wanting to scare them off, I took this video through a gap I made in the window blinds upstairs).

Austin got some snow. At my sister's house, they received 0.6 inches. My brother and SIL received 0.7 inches.

Last I heard, the kids were still playing in it with all their friends at the park. They even made a tiny snowman on Luke's car. Lol!

I'm really glad for them. They all get off school today AND get to enjoy some of the white stuff AND there's the weekend to follow. They're a busy, busy family so I'm happy they're having a fun snow day.

Speaking for myself though, I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't envious of them.

Really, really envious.

I know they didn't receive that much snow, but it's better than the alternative that we got... which is ZIPPO!!!!

It's all my fault. It's that darn positive thinking. This time I was thinking positive about the snow (usually I'm very skeptical and get ragged for being the realist; I am a Taurean after all), and my reward is... well THERE IS NO REWARD!

Okay, so I'm still a bit livid but believe it or not I'm not as angry as I was this morning.

Anyway, lesson learned. Positive thinking might be fine for Pollyanna, but not for me. I'll stick to reality, thanks. At least when you stick to realism, the disappointments don't become such a shock.

Here are pics my brother took:

I LOVE that last picture! It looks so pretty covering the streets and rooftops.

By the way, I found out last night that the wind was so fierce during that blizzard Dad got, that it blew through the small cracks in his windows. The inside of his truck was soaked.

Wintry Night!

Current Mood: Photobucket

- Posts from my niece and nephew's Facebook pages tonight:

“70% chance of snow. Pray for no school!” - Luke

(Hooray! They raised their chance of snow! So far they're delaying school by 2 hours, but I hope the school district will be smart and just cancel. The kiddos and my sister deserve a day off from school).

“There's snow on our front walk way. That's pretty exciting! I feel like someone just gave me a full bag of Halloween candy!” - Autumn

(Haha! My niece would use candy as a comparison).

- My Aunt Jennifer called, saying it was starting to snow there. She hung up, then called back under 5 minutes later. She was flabbergasted because the snow was coming down so hard that it was already accumulating!

- Over here, we've started having tiny doses of snow flurries mixed with sleet. When Maddie went outside for the millionth time, she was so happy. She's gonna freak if it starts snowing! She love love LOVES the cold!

I'll add updates in this post. Hopefully they'll be some snow videos! (I hope they show up on the digital camera. My regular Sony camera's battery won't charge at all).
