Codex: Raid on Titan - Our Adepticon Malal Theme

We are back from Adepticon with a medal for best display for our Raid on Titan board. Along with the board (which will get more coverage soon) we handed out a "Codex" to our opponents and a few lucky other individuals at the tournament.

The basic premise of our theme is Malal is trapped under the Grey Knight's Fortress Monastery on Titan and the Sons of Malice are heading there to set him free.

You can download and read our codex here

CODEX ASTARTES: RAID ON TITAN

Now I want to make it clear, most of what is in this is us connecting the dots and not making up fluff. We spent a lot of time researching Malal and the Sons of Malice to pull this all off, but before you scoff

  • Malal really is the God of Anarchy
  • The Grey Knight's Fortress really is under Mount Anarch
  • The Sanctum Santorum really is a bunch of Tesseracht Vaults holding daemons
  • It really is guarded by 44 Purifiers
  • Malal's sacred number really is 11, and he really hates the 4 chaos gods
  • Malal's colors really are black and white (which combined make what?)
  • The Sanctum Santorum really is having issues containing daemons after the opening of the Cicatrix Maledictum
  • The 11th "Doomed One" really has only recently been chosen
All we did is connect a lot of dots and put together a cool theme.

The truth is out there...

RUNNING BACKLOG REDUCTION
(Total Painted + Total Sold - Total Bought - Total Printed): -73

So I am still on the red for back log reduction, and only added to it but getting a friend to Print me 22 models in December (otherwise the number would have gone down!). SO that's the goal for 2022, drive the back log reduction to a positive number rather than a negative. Still, as deltas go, the fact that over the 5 years I've tracked this, my backlog through purchase has only grown by 73 is great (the problem is gifts have grown it a little more than that) but still under 150 all told. And I at least got more games in than 2020!

So far in 2022 I have only finished painting 1 model (a Deredeo Missile Launcher), but I have built and primed
9 Custodes Terminators, 9 Sisters of Silence, 5 Blood Angels Terminators, and an Aquitor bombard. Now to paint 3 servitors.

Discordian's 2021 Hobby Plans

Discordian here, with a random list of things to work on to start the year off. And boy is it random.

Battlefleet Gothic

2 Cruisers

6 Escorts

2 Cruisers

6 Escorts

This one is and will be an easy one to finish, half of it I finished the first week of this year.

But last year I had a super awesome friend 3D print a Dark Eldar fleet from STL files.

I even made a couple of Dark Eldar Impalers from Dark Eldar Impalers

Aeronautica

2 Tigershark Bombers

2 TIgershark AX

6 Barracudas

Ground Assets?

This might take a little time because my tau scheme is mostly white...

and white sucks to paint.

Dark Eldar

7 Wyches

Archon

Beastmaster

1 Kheradruakh Conversion

3 more Grotesques?

I really liked the new Shadowstalkers and figured they'd make good Wych stand-ins.
Wanted to make better Archon to match my Mandrakes using this guy

I made these from those FW Daemons, I keep going back and forth on weather I want more

Tau

4 Gun Drones

2 Marker Drones

Shaper

5 Rail Rifle Pathfinder Squad

3 Tanks (Devilfish/Hammerhead)

2 Piranhas

2 Remoras

1 Tigershark Bomber

2 Baracudas

So a lot more of this unfortunately....
For my piranhas, because I hate the ski-doo look

Eldar

1 Dire Avenger

2 Jetbikes

1 Warlock

1 Wraithknight

Dire avenger was easy. Now mostly I just need to repaint a whole Wraithknight.....

Grey Knights

2 Twin Heavy Bolters

I already had two of these for razorbacks, but I have no idea what happened to them. So I have the hulls and the mounts all set, just need to paint some guns because I'm an idiot.

Harlequins

10 Troupe conversion models

3 Special Starweavers…..

I picked up a box of Nighthaunt Revenants last year, and built them up last year. Now I just need to paint them.

The Post of Quarantine- 70 days of Isolation, 30 to go

Well this year has not gone according to plan. I am sure most of you would agree. It most certain has not for me. Shortly after Adepticon became Adeptican't, I had to go to a 103 day training course and have been stuck in a hotel room every day since then. I did bring a ton of Hobby stuff with me, but in general motivation has been low and the environment not entirely conducive to hobbying and in particular, painting and blogging. A Hampton in hotel room was not designed to be a "hobby haven" for sure, but I've tried to make the most of it.

At this point I am down to my last month, and will try and get some more content up here, but I haven't had much to talk about without releases from GW and every event cancelled. And the lack of access to my camera gear means hobby posting is limited too. However I do have some psychic awakening books on the way to me here, so I should be talking about that soon.

In the meantime, you can see my hobby progress best on my Instagram @SepulchreofHeroes and if you haven't yet, follow us on Facebook for the best hobby related memes.

Anyway, before I left I did some preparation for my exile
-Organized, Primed, and Basecoated for contrasts all of my ASoIF models (over 220 models)
-Primed and prepped all my Aeronautica Imperialis
-Assembled, Primed and basecoated a Pallas Grav Tank
-Basecoated 6 Plague Ogors

I also packed up all my Titanicus with the hope of getting a game in in the local area, but COVID restrictions have entirely prevented that and I don't hold much hope of being able to play one in my last month.

With that done I packed up my Jeep and headed out.
What I have completed since being here

Aeronautica Imperialis Gaming Mat, complete with terrain!

Discordian here! So like a lot of people right now I've found I had a lot of time on my hands, and I finally finished a weird side project I've been working on.

Aeronautica Imperialis Gaming Mat, complete with terrain!
Shown with Bio-Titan to scale

I ordered the gaming mat from Deepcut Stuidos (not a sponsored ad, I just really like them and I also got to say Giant Lithuanian Mouse-pad to my wife when she asked what I bought). They will make you pretty much anything you want, you can even upload your own images. I purposely made the hexs very light because I wasn't sure if I'd only use this for new Aeronautica.
The islands and the clouds was me trying to add 3D elements that didn't actually mess with game play. I ordered some pre-cut hexs off of Amazon (if you do this be careful how they're measured, took me awhile to find the right size).

For the Islands, at first I had just glued the hexs to themselves. Then I dropped one and it exploded. After that I cut out a plasticard outline for each and attached them to that.
For the clouds I thought about getting some plastic rods, but shelter-in-place for my area has been in effect for awhile. So I made do with what I had and used flight stands, that I drilled out and stacked to each other, and with the bases attached to the underside of the clouds.
There are two things left I want to do....

1. I want to make better bottom supports for the clouds, they were standing without anything but were definitely not stable enough to put a plane on top. So I took some plasticard and etched a narrow hex pattern to connect the stands at the bottom.

I'm fairly sure I want to go back and make a better versions that go under the mat and incorporates magnets.

2. I'm going to need more hexs......

Hobby Progress - Prophets of Bark and the Spooky Bunch Additions

Discordian here, with some new in-progress additions to my weird Mandrake themed army.

You can see what has already been done HERE.

New Urien Rakarth:
Below are what I originally made for my Coven HQs, a generic Haemonculus and my Urien Rakarth with the Flag.
Converted from Sylvaneth Tree Revenants

I was happy with them for the most part, but as time went by I wished had given both flags to make them both stand out better. So when the new Sylvaneth character box set came out, I knew it was time for a upgrade.
My new Urien, complete with BEESS!!
Simply enough project, and as soon as I get tree lady all painted up I'll swap her in as my new Urien.

Super-Mandrake Kheradruakh
My second project is something a little more absurd. And it started with this.
For awhile I wanted to make a large show piece for my army, and I didn't want it to be a large tree. I wanted to focus more on the Mandrake side of things, and recently I had a cool idea when I saw that kit.

There was a small part in Gathering Storm where the Mandrake Boss Man finally completed his centuries long task of making the creepiest room ever. And in doing so opened up a gate to the shadow realm. This in turn hyper-charged all the Mandrakes, and allowed Commorragh to fight off the Daemon invasion left behind by the worst house guest ever, the Ynnari.

So I thought to myself what if Kheradruakh wasn't just an ordinary Mandrake anymore, he had risen beyond the limits of a normal Mandrake and into the realm of legend.
A little cleanup work to make the rat skull-face less face, and more maskish

Here's where the real fun part comes in, Kheradruakh doesn't use a weird double ended halberd. He uses a massive meat cleaver.

Never throw out anything
My next trick will be to meld his second set of arms into his back, but I haven't gotten there yet.
After that I'll smooth things out and fill in the gaps, and then I get to start the boring painting part.

I'll circle back with another post after I've made some more progress.
