Review: Kings of War Historical

I received my copy of Mantic Game's Kings of War Historical this week and what can I say! Well a lot in turns out!

Developed by the great Alessio Cavatore, this looks to be another great success.

It is definitely not the most in depth or detailed historical game out there, and is far from a "simulation" of historical battles. Rather it seems to be intended to allow you to get quick and fun games in with your Historical models or easily transition between Fantasy and Historical gaming without learning too many rule sets. This is done by replicating the Kings of War rules in their entirety (meaning this is a stand alone product and no other KoW title is required to play) and then adding a multitude of faction lists with a common "Master List" for play.
This is a great things for beginners in the world of historical war gaming, and can easily be the foundation of a club or event.

One key thing to note is that the game allows for cross over play with the fantasy Kings of War armies and incorporation of "Mythical Units" into the faction lists of history, allowing a true narrative experience into the mythology of a culture, whether is be Greek Epics, Arthurian Legend, Germanic Fairy Tales or Chinese Folk Legends.

Humor: Hitler React's to the Angel's Blade Supplement

I won't do a full review of the book until I get my physical copy in. But in the mean time I did this up in jest for everyone out there. Had to try and season it with just enough salt to really deliver the punches without coming across as just bitter. As well, this is work safe, no cursing or anything, but you may want to use headphones or turn down the volume. Hitler ranting is generally something that catches most people off guard.

Instead of WIP Weekend, I am playing Battlefront

I am sure many MANY of you have med this decision. It is okay.

I am actually getting a little work done painting a tactical marine right now as I take a break from Walker Assault after walker assault.

BUT for those of you ALSO playing the Star Wars Battlefront Beta, you should watch these videos, because man oh man are they hilarious.

Gothmog's Blood Bowl 2 Stream

YESTERDAY WAS BLOOD BOWL 2 LAUNCH DAY!!!! HOOORAY!!!

So I have been streaming my games and I invite you to watch if you are curious about the game & how to play blood bowl, or just looking for some entertainment.

So I have a few teams that I have made for the game

The New Fangland Hatriots (Orcs, New England Patriots, including players like Zog Brady, Wes Walloper and Thug Flutie)
The Parravon Eagles (Bretonnian, based off of the Phildelphia Eagles)
The Aquitane Falcons (Bretonnian, based off of the Atlanta Falcons, and including Michael the Victorious and Matthew the Lion)
The Greschburg Yellow Jackets (Human, based off of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets)

We have a league, the Averland Carrior Conference (ACC) and the competition is the Fatal Bowl System (FBS)

SO Overall a REALLY fluffy/fun league I am in.

You can watch a full game of Chaos vs the NEW Bretonnian team here (SKIP TO 54:05 for the PLAY OF THE GAME!!!)

I am getting a new headset some time this week, so audio will be better. I will also try and laugh less... Overall though, I am trying to be instructive on BB and how/why I make my decisions. And some times you just have to put your faith in NUFFLE and go big or go home.

A Call To All Patriots! Support Team USA (Megabots) for Robot Duel!!! (It looks like a KNIGHT!!!)

Do you like massive robots?
Do you like a nice solid round of "fisticuffs"?
Do you love the U S of A?

THEN THIS KICKSTARTER IS FOR YOU!!!!

If you want some background information, check out THIS POST HERE!!! Seriously do it now, they are some AWESOME videos featuring more of these crazy fighting robots!

And if you are "Meh, why should I watch these?"

I mean seriously, look at this thing!

Don't tell me that doesn't remind you of one of these:
They got some awesome companies and advisers helping out (even NASA!), but obviously Giant Robots don't come for free (if you own a Knight yourself you know this pain all too well).

So if you want to be remembered for all time as someone who brought a Knight to life for a real life Gundam battle, then do it.

For America. For the future. For the children, so they don't have to grow up in a world where giant robot fighting is a fantasy.

Unboxing: Samurai Lords Kickstarter by Steel Fist Miniatures

SO I got my Samurai Lords Kickstarter  rewards last night and let me tell you WOW! These are the highest quality miniatures there are. The level of detail is astounding.

Exclusive KS reward mini
Just look at that. It really is that finely detailed at 28mm.

You can check out Steel Fist here and get some of your own. All the kickstarter minis are available aready!

If you are starting Samurai for War and Conquest or Pike and Shotte, you can't go wrong getting some Steel Fist stuff to spruce up your army. Sure, you will have to use Wargames Factory and Perry for the the bulk of your forces, but this stuff should be your centerpieces. I plan on painting a few to submit for crystal brush at adepticon 2016. If you are looking to do a pure hobby/painting project, these minis offer one of the best options IMO.
Every model, from Daimyo to humble bannerman, is finely detailed and crafted. You can tell that hundreds of hours of research and sculpting went into each set. They truly are incredible minis.
The only issue I have is that he did as a kickstarter suffer some delays, but most were out of his control and were with the casters. I think there are no issues any more now that he has his stock.
I also am missing a single piece, a katana for my exclusive KS mini, however I have tones of plastic ones that I can easily use, so this is no big issue either.

So check out the video and check out Steel Fist Miniatures!

Aliens, Death Star or C'Tan??? (or lame magnetic bubble...)

Stumbled across this from the Science Channel. It is video from a telescope capturing a large sphere that appears to be feeding off the sun. Ideas of space craft refueling and such are discussed, but I propose an alternate explanation...

Is it a C'Tan feeding on our star?!?!
You decide....

GIANT ROBOT DUEL IN REAL LIFE

So this isn't warhammer related, or even hobby related, but it is super awesome. If you are into Wargaming chances are are you like Robot. Better yet is robots fighting Gundam/Pacific Rim/Big-O/Evangelion/Robo-tech/Mech Warrior Style. We all love dreadnought, knights and titans.

Real life is about to catch up.

The US has Challenged Japan to a Mech Fight. And they Accepted.

Some Mech Action, showing the competitors up close and in detail

Unboxing: Big Box Terrain by Angry Mojo Games

So a few months back I backed my first Kickstarter. It was the Big Box Terrain by Angry Mojo Games. Well it arrived today, so I thought I would share it with you!

A correction to the video: I mention triangular bases. Those are actually the floors for the taller buildings second and third level. There are no bases for the buildings, as they support themselves (I may add a base to define the area as difficult terrain. I also don't mention the two cool little church pews that come with the ruined chapel.
That is alot of stuff. 2 Three Story Ruins, 6 Two Story Ruins, 16 One Story Ruins, a Ruined Chapel, 3 Blast Templates, a Rubble field and 3 feet of walls.

Test fitting everything together, I can also say that there is no forcing of any parts, all of it slides into place with ease and supports itself easily.

According to the kickstarter I was supposed to only get 8 of the 1 story building corners, but as you can see I got 16. I don't know if this was a mistake, a kickstarter special, or a result of the delay that befell Angry Mojo when a laser went bad. I also got some spare floors for the 2 and 3 story buildings, which I may just have to find some use for.

Angry Mojo seems to still be up and coming, and is just finishing up fulfillment of their kickstarter. I expect that their terrain will be available soon from their website. The idea of $50 US for an entire tables worth of terrain (which you can see I definately got AND THEN SOME) is AMAZING. Sure it is not the most visually striking, but for events or (as I mention in the video) pick up/travel games, it is perfect.
