ZGA was started by Nick Soudnick and Valery Dudkin (1965 - 2004) in Riga in March 1984. Later the group was joined in by Alexander Zhilin (1959 - 1994), Michael Yudenich, Vadim Petrenko, Emily and Eva Molchanova.

In 1989 Chris Cutler and Recommended Records released ZGA's first LP (Point East PE-02). Thus revealing the group to the world.

At the end of 1991 on the suggestion of "Pushkinskaya-10" Art Centre Zga moved to S.-Petersburg.

After Alexander Zhilin's death the group stopped being permanent. Nick Sudnick has been inviting various musicians for his different projects. Since 2000 ZGA permanent musicians are Ekaterina Fedorova (drums), Ramil Shamsudinov (trombon) and Valeria Kildeeva (violin).


In middle of the 90s Nick's artistic focus shifted from piezo-electric pickups, original sound sources inveted by himself, towards much wider range of sounds.

Since 1999 Nick actively collaborates with Engineering Theatre AKHE and makes soundtracks for their performances.

Sudnick has several side projects. He participates in Vetrophonia, his mutual project with Alexander Lebedev-Frontov (Linija Mass, Stalnoy Pakt). He has collaborated with various painters and artists. He also played in Sergey Kuryokhin's Pop Mechanics. In 2005 LongArms Records released Delikatessen - the joined project of Nick Soudnick and Vjacheslav Gaivoronskij. Nick's latest project FIGS gathered together Ekaterina Fedorova (Iva Nova, ZGA), Alexei Ivanov (Union of Commercial Avant-guarde, Nado Podumat) and Markus Godwyn (The Noise of Time)

Juana Molina

Juana Molina, pasa a ser una de las exponentes latinoamericanos, es calidad sonora, en sus trabajos de música alternativa, experimental, puedes adquirir plena conciensia de esto. Me parece un deleite escuchar los impulsos rítmicos expresados en una melodiosa guitarra, atravesandolos con la busqueda de implementos electrónicos simplemente precisos y su preciosa voz que apela la satisfacción del viento. Me queda agradecer al blog Cagedream por permitirme conocer la música de Juana.

Mazzy Star - She Hangs Brightly [1991]

Si la música psicodélica tuviera una voz, o un voto en el post-punk de los años '90, Mazzy Star puede haber sido su reencarnación más fuerte. Esto no necesariamente significa que los admiradores del Jefferson Airplane y el Grateful Dead encontrarán la cinta a su gusto, pese a todo Mazzy la Estrella mucho prefiere el lado oscuro de la psychedelia, como ejemplo quedan las pistas más dilatadas de las Puertas (The Doors) y el Terciopelo Subterráneo (The Velvet Underground). Sus entrenamientos de guitarra borrosos y composiciones lastimeras folk a menudo son bañados por los trances disociativos que generalmente se forjaron para los años en su comienzo, es que por mucho que sus texturas puedan recordar los estados inducidos por medicina de vendimia psychedelia, ellos mantienen su nostalgía eterna, atrapada, de duelo sencillo con el viento comunitario.

Golpean a la puerta!!, el destino... al hemisferio derecho le comprimen a golpes, llaman al descontrol, ya han creado una estatua que permanece en el tiempo oxidándose, jeje!!! no existen!!!, distorción al level máximo intercambiando fluidos con el amplificador, y gritos producto de la garganta seca, lúcida en la sobredósis rutinaria, todo se reune plenamente para darle filo al cuchillo con el que comes tu carne, servida a la mesa, en pedazos ensangrentados de opinión!!!, temas que "vendieron" a la generación de anormales dentro de una matriz de hipócritas...
Nirvana, en el chaos, proceso de creación, ordenar con intencidad espiritual veloz, directo al choque frontral que desmorona los productos, paradojicamente reiterado.
