Over the Top

SHOCK!
I checked my emails this morning and found a Warhammer Historical Newsletter proclaiming the release of Over the Top.  This is the long awaited supplement to The Great War, containing army lists for the whole war and new trench fighting rules.  As you will remember The Great War only covered 1914 & 1918 when the war was mobile.  Full colour WWI.  I had to order a copy.

WWI Anzac Battalion - Western Front

My Western Front WWI project is now finished. I have completed my 1000 point 1918 Australian Battalion for Warhamer Historicals The Great War. 71 figures, one gun and one light tank. It took 18 months to complete. All figures and the 18pdr Gun are 28mm Great War Miniatures. The Whippet tank is from Brigade Games. I bought the rules, made a 1000 point legal army on paper, stuck to the plan and finished it. The army is an all round balanced unit built to have a bit of attacking power and a bit of defensive power. If you click on the pics they get bigger.
Cheers
Paul

18pdr Gun

My 1000 pt "The Great War" Anzac Army is now complete. I quickly painted up the artillery support which is an 18pdr Gun with five crew for a cost of 85 army points. Next mission is to photograph the whole army for the blog. Figures and gun are 28mm Great War Miniatures.

Anzac Spotter

It has taken me one month to paint one figure. This figure is my spotter for my artillery battery (yet to be painted). It's been a long hot summer which I am blaming for my laziness. No rain for two months, most days averaging 35'c+ and three days in a row of over 40'c makes it hard to paint. Thanks for air conditioning, icy poles, the couch and war movies. It's so hot that when I open my vallejo paint bottles the paint spews out like a volcano. Figure is from Great War Miniatures - 28mm.

Anzac WWI Vickers MMG Section

I wrapped up my painting for 2009 by finishing two WWI Vickers Machine Gun teams for "The Great War". They will support my 1000pt Anzac Battalion. All I have left to paint is my 18pdr Gun, five crew and a forward observer and the army is finished. Figures are 28mm Great War Miniatures.

I have finally finished the Battalion Command for my Western Front Anzac 1000pt army. Just two Vickers teams and a 18pdr Field Gun to go. Figures are 28mm Great War Miniatures.

Anzac Assault Platoon

The progression towards completing a 1000 point WWI Western Front Australian Battalion took another step closer with the Assault Platoon finished. Based up for Warhammer Historical's The Great War rules, this ten man unit is the tough Assault Platoon. Armed with grenades, gas masks, and pick handles the assault platoon is a unit the Hun fears. In The Great War ruleset 1 man = 3 men so these 10 figures represent 30 men on the miniature battlefield. This unit is my first deviation from Games Workshop slotta bases into wooden bases with magnetic bottoms. I am happy with the results and will base all my 28mm figures like this from now on. Figures are 28mm Great War Miniatures.

Anzac Day

To celebrate Anzac Day I painted the limited edition 28mm WWI Honour Guard figure from Figures in Comfort. This figure represents the Australian Army Corp on the Western Front. I have painted 28th Battalion flashes on his shoulders. The 28th Battalion was raised in Western Australia. On Anzac Day I remember two grandfathers who served with the Australian Infantry in WWII. One was with 2/28th Battalion, seeing action in the Middle East, New Guinea and Borneo. The other was with 28th Battalion seeing action in New Britain. Thanks to all Australians that have served this great country. Least we forget.

WWI Whippet Tank

The Anzacs now have armour support on the Western Front in the form of a British Whippet Tank. Named after a feisty woman, Grace the Whippet tank is sure to win many great tabletop victories. The Whippet Tank is from Brigade Games and is 28mm, or 1/56th scale.

Western Front Anzacs

The next 10 man platoon of Western Front WWI Anzacs are complete. The lads are marching off to the front. I had originally planned to take the heads off these figures and stick on bush hat or slouch hat heads but I could not find any that were suitable. Soapy does his Australian head pack but the short cut down brim does nothing for me. The other option would be to buy Anzacs from Brigade Games and cut their heads off and transfer them over but that gets a little bit expensive. Figures are based up for Warhammer Historicals The Great War. Figures are 28mm Great War Miniatures. Next unit on the painting table is the Assault Platoon.
