The Player learns about King Etemon from Fujieda Yoshino, who's looking for him. In a later Onegai Quest, one of the Player's DigiFarm Digimon informs them that a lot of food was stolen from the DigiFarm and the guilty party is at Steamy Jungle. There, the Player meets King Etemon, who happily flaunts about how much there is to steal. After King Etemon gloats about himself, the Player realizes he's the one Yoshino was looking for. King Etemon gladly confesses about his crimes, as well as giving the Player his title: the phantom thief, Etekin the Third, and decides to get rid of the Player, who realizes King Etemon is too strong for them. Thankfully, Daimon Masaru and Agumon appear at that time, both of them having been in pursue of King Etemon for a while. Masaru has Agumon evolve into Geo Greymon, but his attacks are too weak to affect King Etemon. Thoma H. Norstein and Fujieda Yoshino then arrive, alongside their Perfect-level Partner Digimon, Mach Gaogamon and Lilamon, cornering King Etemon. King Etemon says he'll evolve and beat them all, but no one buys his bluff and then he asks if they won't let him go, before finally surrendering.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger

King Etemon is a Virus-type, Ultimate-level Digimon of the Daring personality. It evolves from Etemon, Monzaemon and Tonosama Gekomon if their Attack is 1640 or higher and their Defense is 1790 or higher, and if the player's Agent Rank is 7 or higher. The stat requirements can be cut by 4.71x by certain Agent Skills. Its signature move is Saru Shibai, which cuts an opponent's attack and intelligence in half by a turn and applies Taunt to the user. It and all of its enemy versions are weak to Fire and Wind and resist Plant and Earth.

The fourth round of the Shinjuku Underground Arena is against the "Kings of Celebrity": Prince Mamemon, Superstarmon and King Etemon. The same King Etemon later reappeared under a different team in the High-Rise Colosseum known as "Kings of Pharaohmon" which is mostly identical to the previous, but with the Superstarmon replaced with the titular Pharaohmon. This is the last team fought before The final showdown against Marsmon and is unlocked upon entering the Threshold Theater in Akashic Oblivion.

In both encounters, King Etemon uses Saru Shibai every turn. In the second encounter it will use normal attacks at low HP (likely to prevent Pharaohmon from softlocking the player as it will instantly use X-Revive every time another ally falls).
