This book touches A single dad firefighter Tripp falls for his new live-in nanny, Brylee in this dual POV, slow burn romance featuring two Black MCs. This book touches on some tough topics (addiction, rehab, parental abandonment) and some parts weren't for me (Tripp isn't officially separated from the mother of his child and there's an unplanned pregnancy) but overall it was an emotional, spicy read that was good on audio. Recommended for fans of authors like Tony Shiloh or Charity Shane. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
Steam level: open door
TW: unplanned pregnancy (not my fav trope and this was totally preventable if the MCs had actually bothered to use protection)...more

There are lots of self-help books out there but this one really resonated for me. In it the author talks about her experience with anxiety, depression, ADHD, loss and infertility (among other things), while also offering a social critique of the society of misogyny that girls and women grow up in that constantly tells them they aren't 'enough' and need to 'do better.'
Great on audio and full of so many important little truth bombs. I can see this being a book I go back and re-read again and again. HIGHLY recommended for fans of books like The good mother myth, More than enough and Find your unicorn space. ⚠️TW: mentions of miscarriages and infertility
Favorite quotes: "True self-care is making sure your basic needs (sleep, food, movement) are met on a daily basis. Self-care is setting boundaries even when they make people uncomfortable so you're not doing more than you can sustain."
"Self-care is valuing yourself as you are now and allowing yourself to feel good even if you're not perfect."
"What is wrong is that we've been conditioned to believe that feeling bad about ourselves and our lives is normal."...more

Wealthy American, Fox and loner British woman, Hazel meet and come together in their youth over a shared love of killing bad men but when they become parents Fox begs Hazel to focus on their family and not do anything that might risk their happy domestic life.
Told from alternating perspectives, we get insights into the challenges of being the breadwinner and the stay at home mom and how hard it can be to make female friends in mid-life. Put off by all the typical 'perfect' moms, Haze unknowingly befriends a policewoman on mat leave and when she falls off the wagon in her killing hiatus, things really heat up as she tries to hide what she's done both from her husband and her new friend.
This was action-packed, funny, relatable and great on audio narrated by Georgia Tennant and Kyle Soller - I couldn't get enough and I will eagerly read anything Asia Mackay writes next! Alexis Hall continues to expand the genre by writing characters exploring their sexuality and what it means to be in a meaningful relationship (whether romantic or platonic). This was a marriage of convenience story between best friends who will do anything for one another and that part I really enjoyed. I've been excited for this book all year and when I finally got a chance to listen to the audiobook I found it overly long, kind of boring and I kind of wanted my 15 hours back. If you're a huge Tom Selleck fan you might enjoy this more but I never watched Magnum P.I. and I felt like the majority of the book was focused on that show, didn't go into a lot of personal stuff other than the shocking opening chapter.
