Anger because I expected so much more than what the author promised. The premise is typical of a thriller novel, it depicts a rollercoaster ride. This novel unfortunately is a huge disappointment for me. So much time wasted.
I listened to this book because I had other books I was already reading, and I need to listen to a book while driving. The narrator didn't have the most pleasing voice, but she still did a good job. I believe that the character the author created, Lo, is the problem. She's a rude, conceited, and honestly a bit stupid. I hate thrillers with a good plot but has terrible characters. This novel has terrible characters and a mediocre plot.
It all started with Lo and a certain event in her flat. That event made her paranoid and affected most of what happens next in the novel. When she finally got aboard The Aurora, I thought that it should get really good from here, but right from the start of her being onboard, it starts to get really dull and annoying. I didn't like her approach to people, even if the justification is because of what happened to her before, it's a bit unlikely that anyone is that rude. If I were to meet her in person, I would most likely hate her just from the introduction. The climax of the novel shouldn't even be considered as a real climax, because there is none. It's all rambling and talking to the crew. The mystery started to seem really boring because of all her rambling and complaining about everything.
The most annoying part of the novel is the disgusting ending and revelation of the secret. That's it? I wasted 9 hours of my life listening to this piece of crap? I've read way better thrillers with cliches plot than this. This is probably the most overhyped book I've read in my life. I'm glad I didn't buy a physical copy because I might give it away to a person that I hate. I firmly believe that it wouldn't have made a difference if I read this, because I would be equally annoyed with the outcome, and the main character.
After days of contemplating ,I can't give this more than 1 star. Whenever I remember this novel, there's no positive feeling or emotion felt toward it. If only I could forget about novels, this would be a good use of that ability. ...more

The last part of the novel is mind blowing, and no matter how slow you want to go, a page turner will always win. I didn't think that I would be this hooked when I started book 1, but every aspect of the novel altogether is enticing. How can I not be addicted if the plot keeps getting better and thicker, plus the characters are perfect. From Kell to Rhy to Lila, there's no reason for anyone not to get attached.
This second novel is a direct sequel to A Darker Shade of Magic. It follows Lila's adventure as she embarks on her own journey and leaving Kell to his own affairs. Kell on the other hand has other devious acts of his own alongside his brother, Rhy. No matter how far they may seem to be apart, one way or another, their paths will intertwine once again.
This novel didn't fixate itself on one character's story, but rather, it focuses on how connected everything and everyone are. The moment you think it's all about Lila, Kell comes into place, and the moment Kell takes the spotlight, Rhy steals it from him. It's a rollercoaster ride between the three and their story in this second novel is spectacular. Especially (view spoiler)[ the tournament where Kell pretends to be Kamerov and Lila pretends to be Stasion Elsor. (hide spoiler)]. I like how the author keeps making the characters interesting, and they have developed a lot since the first novel. It scares me how this is just a trilogy, because I don't think I get detach myself from the amazing characters she created.
The plot has substance, just like the first novel. It's not all cheap thrills and cliches, because the author has a lot of huge things under her sleeves. I'm sure that the next book would be really great too, considering the massive cliffhanger this book has.

Dark Matter is about endless possibilities. That's all I'm going to say about this novel because saying more would definitely spoil you and steal the amazing experience you'll feel after reading this. I haven't read a novel so perfectly crafted in a long time. Terrific and chilling plot with remarkable characters. This novel is the best Sci-Fi novel of 2016 that I've read, and one of the best SF novels ever. I haven't heard anyone say that this novel is predictable or that they've read something terribly similar in the past. It's safe to say that this novel is original. This is how I like my SF novels, unpredictable and would definitely keep you turning the pages.
Despite my huge reading slump since 2015, this is the fastest I've read a novel in a very long time. Also, I was looking forward to reading the novel. I wasn't conscious of my progress, because I wanted more. Even after reading the last page, I wanted a lot more because the world that the author created is amazing. Despite the beautiful ending the he gave the novel, I still wanted more because there are endless possibilities to add in to the novel. This is clearly a standalone novel, but it wouldn't hurt to ask for more.
5/5 stars. It's been 2 months since my last 5 star rating, and this novel clearly deserves all the praise it's been receiving. I don't care if the author is famous because of this older book series, because I haven't even read his other books and I'm still blown away by this novel. It's clearly not the author hype or the hype itself that makes this novel amazing, it's the content. It's how the author created a masterpiece. One of my favorite books of all time....more

I know how Marvel is trying to empower feminism by blurting out important female characters and Wolverine X-23 is just one of them. X-23 can never replace Logan, but she's not a bad character at all. Needs a ton of development, but this is the first graphic novel I've read about her so there is room for improvement.
This graphic novel focuses on the four sisters who are clones of Wolverine. They escaped the lab and are still escaping the people who created them. The plot of this first volume isn't as interesting as I expected, but I deemed it as an introductory volume for the series. I'm really hoping that things would improve along the way.

One of the bI haven’t had a great read from Netgalley in months. I’m glad that I saw this on the most requested section and decided to give it a try. One of the best decisions I’ve made this 2016.
If you’re planning on reading this novel then you should avoid spoilers at all cost. I read the short summary provided by the author on Goodreads and immediately read the novel. It’s only 304 pages, and I was really happy about this fact. Unfortunately, after reading the whole novel, I’m actually asking for more. I normally avoid lengthy novels because I’m a busy with college, but you’ll understand why I’m asking for more. This novel is amazing.
When I got to around 50%, I was already projecting my rating for the novel. I always do this when I read, and I normally project ratings in random parts of the novel. In this case, I was ready to give this novel 2-3 stars at most, 50% in. The reason is that I didn’t see anything special about it. The plot is engaging, but it lacked the wow factor. Fortunately the last 1/3 of the novel completely made up for the lack of wow-factor I was looking for.
The characters are proficiently written, and I really liked the main character early on in the novel. The supporting characters are diverse and fun to read about.
The novel consists of alternating chapters between early on the event, and the latter part. I’m not going to spoil anything, because it would surely ruin the whole novel. Even a hint of spoilers would mess this novel up for you. You need to read this with as little information as possible.
I liked how everything progressed. It didn’t seem like it was going to wrap up nicely, but the author managed to do it. At one point you’re probably assuming that this is going to happen, or this is not going to happen, but the author throws in a completely different situation and you’ll be knocked off your seat. The twists and turns in the novel
The ending is both great and confusing at the same time. The ending is very crucial when it comes to my final rating of any novel. I don’t care if the novel is 5-star material 99% in. If the ending ruins the whole thing, a 5-star rating can go down to a 1-star rating. It’s great that the ending of this novel helped give it a boost from 3.5 to 4 stars. I’m still hoping for a sequel or a side story to be honest, but that might ruin the first book. You’ll understand everything if you’ve read this amazing novel.
4/5 stars. Clearly not a perfect novel, but it’s really entertaining and worth your time. It’s relatively short but it’s going to make you ask for more, even though there’s never going to be another book because it’s a standalone novel.
Thank you Netgalley for giving me an advance reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review. ...more

I normally just read the first book of a series and leave it hanging for next time. It also normally ends up being left hanging forever in most cases. I'm going to try to change that bad habit from now on.
This third and last book is amazing. Shusterman managed to wrap things up nicely. None of that cliche stuff with this trilogy. The characters are fully developed and all the plot holes got answered nicely. I liked how the ending happened. It wasn't forced or formulaic in any way, for me.
Most of my friends rated this 5 stars, but sadly it's a 4.5 for me, rounded down. While the ending was good and original, it wasn't mind blowing. I almost gave this 5 stars because of what happens in the middle. The whole thing felt like a rollercoaster ride, but unfortunately the end of the ride winded down. I'm glad though for the outcome of most of the characters, but it wasn't enough for me to garner it a 5-star rating.

Most of the time, especially in YA series/trilogies, the second book will always be the most dreaded one. Shusterman managed to create a terrific novel. A great successor to Everlost.
The novel continues with three different voices. We have Mary, Allie, and Nick. Naturally we tend to have favorites when it comes to novels with different voices, and I also have my own in this novel. I liked Allie's adventure more because I'm really interested with her ability to skinjack. It's great that the author expounds on her ability in this novel, and I learned a lot more about it.
The author didn't disappoint with the plot and character development. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that this novel is 100+ pages longer, and there are some dull moments here and there. Forgivable flaws, but the next novel is 200+ pages longer than the first. Hopefully it's a substantial 200+ pages.
4.5/5 stars. I gave this the same rating as the first novel, but honestly I liked this one a lot better. It's still not worthy of a 5-star rating, but it's getting there. Hopefully the last novel in the trilogy would be just as good as this, if not better....more

This book is not about motivatingMy brother recommended this book because I was looking for a good self-help book. I wanted something to motivate me. This book is not about motivating the reader in general, but rather its focus is on the business side of life.
I read this without reading the summary at the back, or even reviews of people here on goodreads. I wanted to read it because of the title. I had no idea it is about business, if I had prior knowledge about the book, I wouldn't have read it.
It's not that I'm not interested in business, but as a current pre-med student, it honestly doesn't relate to my life. As much as I want to establish in my mind that it can be self-help in general, it just can't. My interest in medicine is in the operational side. I want to be a surgeon, so how can a business book help me in that dream?
Honestly it's my fault that I didn't enjoy the book. Some people say that you need to read a book without prior knowledge of it, but I beg to disagree. 20 minutes of my time was wasted because I read this book. I could've read something else, something better. I'm sure that people involved or want to be involved in business would appreciate this novel. It's just not for me....more

The whole collection is a rollercoaster ride full of confusing twists and turns that didn't make sense. The collection didn't really showcase the real Scarlet Witch and her potentials. She has a huge potential but this collection put that potential to waste. She needs proper treatment, and I might just have to look elsewhere for that.

I read the whole ASOIF series in a span of about 25 days, meaning about 5 days each for a 1000+ page novel. This novel is only 700+ pages long but I didn't finish it soon enough. I can blame my busy schedule or my occasional lack of interest to read, but honestly, the novel has a lot of weak spots.
I read NOS4R2 by the same author and I didn't like the book that much. When I read about this book though, I was completely stoked and bought the novel as soon as I saw it at my local bookstore. I read it the same day that I bought it, but sadly it didn't take me that fast to finish it. While I enjoyed this a lot more than NOS4R2, I'm still honestly a bit disappointed. Hill still hasn't wow-ed me, but hopefully the third novel would be the charm.
The novel has a lot of fillers and it could've been 200 pages shorter. The first 1/3 of the novel really had me at the edge of my seat, but then the middle slacked off. Then the middle started to become interesting, then it started to slack off again. Then it became interesting again not until about 75% in the novel. The novel is highly inconsistent, and sadly that really affected my reading mood.
While the plot is inconsistent as hell, thankfully the characters made up for that huge flaw. I really liked almost all of them. I hated Allie at first, but I learned to like her in the end. Harper is your typical neutral protagonist who tries to be a hero, but doesn't really qualify to be one. John is honestly both the strong and weak point when it comes to the characters. While he is interesting and plays a huge role in the novel, he is as inconsistent as the plot. The antagonists are also interesting, especially Jakob. Carol on the other hand really annoyed me. I wanted her gone a few paragraphs in.
The Sci-Fi aspect of the novel really stood out in my opinion. I understood most of the things that Hill incorporated because I studied mycology just a few months ago. I know that this new fungal species that Hill created is clearly fictional, it still entertained me. The apocalyptic aspect of the novel resembles some novels I've read before, but overall for me it can be considered original. It's not one of those annoying sci-fi/apocalypse that are really predictable and laughable.
I was really confused as to whether this novel deserves a 3 or 4 star rating, but I had already established that it clearly deserves a 3.5 rating. This is one of the reason why Goodreads really needs to add the half star option. I opted to rate this novel 4 stars because while there are a bunch of bad parts, the entire novel is really interesting and commendable. The characters would leave you yearning for more, and honestly the ending did not satisfy my curiosity. A bunch of short stories might help with my curiosity, but it seems like Hill wanted this to be a standalone. I'm not particularly happy with the ending because it has a lot of loopholes that Hill didn't really fix. I think maybe he opted for an open-ended novel, but I'm not happy with it.
If you're a Sci-Fi fan and really likes novels that heavily depend on the premise and the characters to make it interesting, then this is for you. I myself forgave the author for the boring parts, and I'm sure that you guys can too. I know it seems that a 4 star rating is too high for a novel that I didn't really enjoy, I'm honestly still recommending this. It's too long, but still fun overall. ...more

I got an arc from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
Most of my friends here know that I dislike reading most YA books. I find most of them shallow and repetitive, but the premise of This Savage Song made me want to give the genre another chance. I'm glad that I did, because this is one of the best YA books out there. I stopped reading the genre a long time ago, so if this novel strikes you as repetitive and predictable, then it's the difference of situations for us.
This Savage Song revolves around the lives of August Flynn and Kate Harker. The former a monster, and the latter the daughter of a very influential and horrendous man named Callum Harker.
The author introduced an interesting world. I enjoyed reading about several types of monsters and how they affect the world the author created. Even the gift of August is very interesting. Really complies with the title of the novel.
The plot is a mixture of paranormal and thriller rolled up into one novel. It's interesting to read about how August fights his own demons, and the demons around him. Even better reading about Kate's thirst for her father's respect, and the respect of those people around her. The two characters strengthens the novel by a long shot. Aside from a terrific plot, Schwab managed to create several likeable and relatable characters.
This novel has a bunch of plot twists, so don't expect your ending to be bleak. Also, it's not one of those typical end the first book so that there will definitely be a second book gimmick most authors do. Most of them turn out annoying and forced, but Schwab managed to write a great ending, or should I say, a great cliffhanger. The last page of the novel made me want to read the next novel right away.
It was months ago that I read a novel that made me stay up till 4:30 in the morning just to finish it. I can't believe that this novel made me do that, but it felt really refreshing to truly get out of the reading slump. This novel gave hope to the YA genre.
This is my very first read ever of Victoria Schwab and I'm planning to read her other series very soon. Such an amazing author.

I normally don't read that much short stories but this one is written by one of my favorite authors. I've read Gone Girl and Dark Places, wherein I gave them both 5 stars. This short story lacks the climax that the author really knows how to create. I believe that the problem is the fact that it's a short story. Mostly people tend to forget about short stories. They only read it merely for fun and sometimes the short stories are connected to a certain series. SS may be short, but they are hard to appreciate and fully grasp. I figured out the essence of this novel right from the beginning, but it's given that plenty of people most probably don't.
This has a simple yet interesting plot. I don't want to dwell on specific details because spoilers really ruin the book. There are twists and turns but I already mentally dwelled and figured out everything around the middle part. After reading, I was a bit disappointed by how the author ended it. It is a bit vague and I really want more of certain characters. Speaking of characters, I will whole heartedly say that I enjoyed reading about the characters. They are unique and they make the novel a lot less cliche, but a cliche plot is a cliche plot, no matter how hard you try to mask that with other things, it'll always be stamped in their brains that they just read a cliche.
4/5 stars. Not the best thing the author has written, but it's still a lot interesting. It's really lacking substance but it's not completely flawed. 4/5 is a high rating, and I gave that rating because the SS really deserves that rating because of all the effort exerted.

"But you must never relax your guard. The Emperor is gone, but the dark side is still powerful. Never forget that."
As we all know, Episode VII c "But you must never relax your guard. The Emperor is gone, but the dark side is still powerful. Never forget that."
As we all know, Episode VII came out a few weeks ago. I watched it a few days after the premiere and was amazed. I watched it for the second time a week ago, and was still amazed. I've been a Star Wars fan ever since I was a child, but my love for the series slowly degraded because no new movies came out. I'm back to loving the series now all thanks to the release of episode 7.
I read this novel because all of my friends here who read this recommended this as a starting point if I wanted to start reading Star Wars (Non-canon). I saw that the trilogy garnered good reviews so I decided to read it. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
This novel should've been episode 7, but released years ago, or maybe as another film trilogy. The plot here is great, and I honestly think that it could've been really successful.
The novel consists of your favorite Star Wars cast. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewie, R2D2, and C3PO. After re-watching the original trilogy for the nth time, I wanted more stories about these characters, and episode 7 only gave the viewers a bit of them. Not enough to satisfy, but I know that JJ Abrams wanted to introduce new characters, and he succeeded in that. This novel gave me the satisfaction of reading more about the characters, and did really well in the process.
I'm a huge Luke Skywalker fan, but honestly he is just my second favorite character in this novel. My favorite is Grand Admiral Thrawn. He portrays what a true villain is capable of, but we see him as a semi-weak figure in this novel. I believe the author did that on purpose for the sake of character building. I feel that Thrawn will further develop in the next novels, and be a real threat to Luke and his friends.
I don't really need to talk about the characters because if you liked them from Episodes 1-6, then you're going to like them even better here. No new set of characters will ever manage to surpass the greatness that the original ones ever portrayed. They can try, but they will always fail, just like the dark side.
"All men want power. And the more they have, the more they want."
That line clearly depicts the dark side. Add in the fact that Thrawn said that line to Pallaeon, the ship captain. Speaking of Pallaeon, he is also one of those characters who seem to hint that he will be important in the future. I liked Pallaeon, even though he seems like a wimp. He's a follower of Thrawn, and he clearly admires him. Just like how Kylo Ren admires Darth Vader.
The plot really entertained me, but it clearly isn't perfect. There are a bit boring moments here and there, but forgivable at best. The most important thing that the plot has is Mara Jade. I already knew who she is, and who she will be, so that sucks. She is only introduced in this novel, so steer clear from family trees on social media. I'm not going to spoil anyone, and hopefully no one gets spoiled.
4.5/5 stars. This is one of those "it almost got a 5" novels. I'm excited to read the next two novels in the trilogy, and then read more about Thrawn because I heard that there are more novels about him. Highly recommended for avid Star Wars fans, you will not be disappointed....more

I'm already laggHere's to the only book I read this September, because I'm not considering "The Grownup" by Gillian Flynn as a novel read this month. I'm already lagging way behind on my reading goal but it's fine. I've come to realize that I seriously don't have time to read anymore nowadays. It's annoying when I choose a bad novel because I stop at some point and feel that a huge amount of my time has been wasted. I'm really glad that this collection of short stories made me feel fulfilled. I enjoyed most of the stories, and I really loved some of them. This is the thing with Stephen King, he can make me enjoy things that I normally don't (short stories), but there's one thing that he didn't change, and that's my dislike of poetry. I ended up skipping "The Bone Church" entirely because I really don't like reading poetry, at all. Ironic how I used to write a couple of them when I was younger, but these days I try my best to avoid it. I know plenty of people enjoy the genre, and that's good for you. It's just unfortunate that I can't seem to grasp the essence of poetry itself nowadays. I'm hoping this would change in the future though.
Just like the last collection of short stories I've read, I'm not going to do an in depth review of every story. I'm just going to talk about the three stories that I enjoyed a lot, considering I gave this a 4-star rating.
Ur
I know how used up this idea is to this date, but King can make anything feel new and entertaining. He added in a new element known as the revolution to ebooks. It's a topic that's been fought over a lot in the internet. There should be no clear winner considering it all boils down to personal preference. I myself love the real thing, but I don't hate my iPad especially when I read in public. It's way easier because my bag weighs a lot lighter with just my iPad Mini rather than a heavy ass hardback. King incorporated a recent issue to a post-apocalyptic theme. It's not just the topic that made me enjoy this a lot, but also the characters. They did seem genuine about every emotion they exude. It's obviously not forced, and it's written the best way possible. The pacing is perfect, and the climax happens just at the right time.
The Dune
The beauty of a collection of short stories is that you have no idea what each story is about. In the case of The Dune, it was a terrific surprise for me. This is one of the many fast reads of this collection. I remember reading this around 1 am and even though I was already sleepy and needed to wake up in about 5 hours, I still finished this, and I was wide awake after reading it. It's a simple story but the execution is remarkable. It's one of those slap at the face ending, but it's a good slap. It's a slap for not seeing what happens in the end.
Afterlife
This is also one of those stories that will be stuck with you for a very long time. It's an amazing concept of what could happen in the afterlife. I'm quite scared that Stevie King is talking about the afterlife more nowadays, but it's fine. I'm just taking it in as added substance to this work. I want to go full on in depth reviewer over this, but it's a short story. The moment I go berserk mode on this, I will spoil you guys. Just buy the damn book and read this, and comment below if you disagree about it being amazing. I would love to know why, because I see no flaw in this. One of King's best work to date.
Obits
This is my favorite of all the stories here. It's everything that makes it amazing. The characters, the plot, the writing, the pacing, everything. The messed up characters makes this short story a lot better than it already is. The main character works as an obituary writer on an infamous website. He doesn't really enjoy what he does but he doesn't have much choice considering he studied journalism and doesn't seem to want to try the bigger online publishing sites. One day he decides to write an obituary of his coworker, who is still alive. He was pissed and tired from everything so out of a whim he decides to write one. What happens next brings nothing but catastrophe in his life.
That's all I can say about this without spoiling. It's an amazing piece of work by King, and I can't believe that this is just a short story. I wanted more after reading it, and quite frankly I still want more right now. This is the one that really stuck by me up to now. I know I won't find anything as good as this out there in the book world. It's caused a bit of a book hangover, but just a bit, considering it's just a short story.
The stories such as Mortality , Premium Harmony , and Drunken Fireworks are also really amazing. I don't want to do a review of them anymore because where is the joy in the possibility of spoiling, plus I don't want to prolong a review that needs to be straight to the point to begin with.
I need to note the bad ones though, so beware of these rotten things: -The Bone Church (I aleady mentioned why) -Blockade Billy (this is the WORST one in this collection) -Mister Yummy
4.5/5 stars, Rounded down because some of the stories are forgettable and I did hate three of them. The ones that I mentioned above and did the best "in depth" review of obviously received 5 stars and made me rethink the rounded down decision I made. This is one of King's latest work, and this just proves that he is still amazing at what he does. All I can say is read the damn book already. ...more
