The first one managed to catch my attention the first 50-60% but started going downhill from there. Same goes with this one but overall I was just interested in the characters anymore and the plot. It talked about the body, from up to down, inside and out. The author only briefly discusses parts of the body and tends to explain medical jargons in a way that an average person could understand. His discussions mostly begin with a historical background of the disease or operation, and then he correlates it with the disease and organ involved. Everything he talked about here (as far as I can remember) is medically correct and accurate. Highly recommended even to non-medical field related people who are just interested to know everything, but not the entirety, of the human body....more

I didn't like the characters that much and while the plot is fantastic, I most of the time need a good set of characters to keep me hooked. The whole middle part of the novel tackling gilgamesh isn't my favourite at all, but I did enjoy all of the parts dealing with the spiders. As a whole the novel isn't bad. I had around 5 hours left and was ready to give up but the last part of the novel (last 1-2 hours) redeemed it. I will be picking up the next novel in the future but i'm quite uncertain when that will be. I'm quite satisfied with how the novel ended and just the right amount of curious to know what can happen in the next novel. 3.5/5 stars, amazing start, dull middle, and great last 90% or so....more

The characters are great, especially the kids part (just like in It). The greatest downfall for me would be the ending. Such a predictable way to end things. I know that a lot of my GR friends found this novel amazing but I just didn't like Eddie anymore in the 2016 parts of the book. Aside from the narrator's voice being a snoozefest, he was just unlikeable and tedious. The narrator for the kid Eddie was great though! I'm not 100% sure if it's the same narrator for both parts but there was a significant difference among them. ...more

The narrator of the audiobook was superb and I can't wait to listen to more. The book itself whilst adventurous and fun lacked depth and substance, for me. Even with the "great twist" in the end everyone was raving about, I still just liked the novel. I enjoyed for the most part but I guess I was hoping for more....more

I own a bunch of them and keep ignoring them on my shelf. I'm really glad that audible had a deal on this short story weeks ago for just $0.99.
This novel is way too short but really packed a good plot and terrific writing. The whole idea of being a dispatcher was really interesting and explained well even though it's just a short story. I will be reading more of Scalzi's work really soon. Really impressed with this, and my only problem is that why is this so short?...more

Compared to The Martian this book is tremendously underwhelming but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I liked Jazz and enjoyed her wit. It took a few chapters for me to start liking her (just like what happened in The Martian). The plot isn't as complex as people hoped it to be but I like a good space-smuggling story from time to time and anything about the moon catches my interest. This is a chill and fun read, so don't expect hard sci-fi. I am a bit disappointed that I didn't enjoy this as much as I was hoping but it's still a good book. I half listened-half read this book and I just have to note that the narrator is really good!...more

Anger because I expected so much more than what the author promised. The premise is typical of a thriller novel, it depicts a rollercoaster ride. This novel unfortunately is a huge disappointment for me. So much time wasted.
I listened to this book because I had other books I was already reading, and I need to listen to a book while driving. The narrator didn't have the most pleasing voice, but she still did a good job. I believe that the character the author created, Lo, is the problem. She's a rude, conceited, and honestly a bit stupid. I hate thrillers with a good plot but has terrible characters. This novel has terrible characters and a mediocre plot.
It all started with Lo and a certain event in her flat. That event made her paranoid and affected most of what happens next in the novel. When she finally got aboard The Aurora, I thought that it should get really good from here, but right from the start of her being onboard, it starts to get really dull and annoying. I didn't like her approach to people, even if the justification is because of what happened to her before, it's a bit unlikely that anyone is that rude. If I were to meet her in person, I would most likely hate her just from the introduction. The climax of the novel shouldn't even be considered as a real climax, because there is none. It's all rambling and talking to the crew. The mystery started to seem really boring because of all her rambling and complaining about everything.
The most annoying part of the novel is the disgusting ending and revelation of the secret. That's it? I wasted 9 hours of my life listening to this piece of crap? I've read way better thrillers with cliches plot than this. This is probably the most overhyped book I've read in my life. I'm glad I didn't buy a physical copy because I might give it away to a person that I hate. I firmly believe that it wouldn't have made a difference if I read this, because I would be equally annoyed with the outcome, and the main character.
After days of contemplating ,I can't give this more than 1 star. Whenever I remember this novel, there's no positive feeling or emotion felt toward it. If only I could forget about novels, this would be a good use of that ability. ...more

I was actually actively listening for the most part. I can't pinpoint the exact reason why I didn't love this as much as everyone else other than the fact that it was too "Young-Adult" for me. The premise and plot are both really great, characters are not bad, but it reads like a YA book, but the problem is (for me), it is a YA book and I knew that before reading this. I've had prior experience with Shusterman's novels (Skinjack Trilogy) which I also enjoyed, but not going to be a 5 star read also. I'm currently listening to the second book now from time to time so that also proves that this novel isn't bad. 3.5/5 stars, really interesting plot and most YA readers would devour this novel. Recently it's been a series of disappointments when it comes to sequels I received an arc of this book from Netgally in exchange for an honest review
Recently it's been a series of disappointments when it comes to sequels. This second and last book in the Psychological-Thriller duology proved no different. I had high expectations because I enjoyed the first book very much, but sadly it didn't live up to my high expectations.
There are various factors that could have affected my enjoyment of this novel. First is that I listened to 3/4 of the novel, and continued reading the last 1/4. I honestly don't think that it made a huge difference though because I was listening as intently as I could. The narrator is really good so I don't think that's the real issue here. While I really enjoyed Joe in the first novel, it's unfortunate that he got a lot less interesting in this novel. The problems he encountered in the first half of the novel are not that interesting, as compared to the first book. I didn't care much for him here, but the last 1/4 of the novel redeemed the whole thing for me. I was about to give this a 2-star rating, but thankfully the last chunk made me change my mind.
The plot isn't as interesting as a whole, but certain parts are better than the others. There was a time that I was listening to this while driving and a huge plot twist suddenly happened, but then a plot twist changed the plot twist. Those moments got me all rilled up and distracted me from driving, which is a good thing because it proves that the fact that I was listening to an audiobook wasn't a problem with my overall enjoyment.
3/5 stars. Despite the not so great experience with this novel, I would still read anything that Kepnes writes. Hopefully she would release a book soon, because who wouldn't want another psychological-thriller to read anyway....more

I remember liking his other novel, 14, but also only the first half. I know Sci-Fi books can get crazy sometimes, but Clines' take on SciFi is just.... absurd. I was so engrossed listening to this that I wanted to be stuck in traffic while driving just to finish it as soon as possible. Terribly disappointed with this as it had so much potential.
