I'm just hoping years 4 and 5 wouldn't disappoint. It's sad that the complete Year 4 collection won't be out till next year and no news for Year 5 so I'll just be reading them per volume. Really great that Zatanna and Raven played a huge role here!...more

Don't we all like a badass DC character? Shouldn't Lobo be one of the go to characters when we're talking about badass? Normally yes, but in this New Don't we all like a badass DC character? Shouldn't Lobo be one of the go to characters when we're talking about badass? Normally yes, but in this New 52 arc, no is the answer.
Whenever I hear Lobo I immediately think badass. Lobo normally kills merciless, so brutality should be expected in this volume. I like a huge amount of gore and killing no matter how gruesome, and this one delivered in that aspect. Right from the start I was introduced with Lobo killing a bunch of things already. Action wise, you're not gonna miss out at all.
The main problem with this was the plot. There was no plot development, or there plot wasn't even interesting to begin with. That's the problem with these New 52 series. DC wanted to wow us fans with great things, but ended up disappointing us volume after volume. Lobo is one of those disappointments.
The artwork was decent. It didn't impress me like Justice League(New 52) but I'm glad it wasn't terrible. Most not so famous characters get the bad artwork treatment, but Lobo received a decent one. It was vivid and the artwork made the gruesome aspect even better.
3/5 stars. I'm still puzzled on why Netgalley (DC Comics) accepted my request, but I'm damn glad they did. After all those rejections I at least deserve one of your titles. Still hoping they would start accepting more of my requests now, especially of the more famous titles.
I received a review copy from Netgalley (DC Comics) in exchange for an honest review.
"Gotham may have lost its king and queen, Bruce, but it could still have its prince."
It's been a while since I read Batman:Earth One, vol.1 and "Gotham may have lost its king and queen, Bruce, but it could still have its prince."
It's been a while since I read Batman:Earth One, vol.1 and when I saw this featured in my local bookstore, I had to grab a copy. Vol.1 was amazing for me, and it also made my favorite-graphic-novels list. I'm glad that the second volume didn't disappoint, and that it was even better.
I normal hate retellings, but this reimagining of Batman was spot on. Nothing changed in terms of his attitude though, because he's still one arrogant little prick. I like dark characters, and Batman is always the number one dark character for me. Alfred on the other hand was a bit different from the usual. I liked the new Alfred, unlike my brother who told me that the original Alfred-the-butler was better. I liked both, but I didn't mind the change in attitude.
The artwork was amazing, just like the first volume. Vivid colors and the sketches were done remarkably. Not the best Batman costume, but it was good enough.
This is probably my favorite Batman story ever. I haven't read much, but this one is the best so far. The plot was consistent, and the villains were great. I used to watch Batman Forever a million times growing up. I loved The Riddler there, so it's no a shock that I was glad to read about Riddler. I'm quite disappointed that there wasn't much riddles, but I'm also elated that The Riddler was the main villain here.
I like how Johns kept portraying Batman as a symbol of hope for Gotham. Batman for me is beyond a guy in a costume. I also like how he made Batman a bit less intelligent than usual. Most of the other stuff I read/watched portrayed him as an omnipotent superhero. I don't see him like that, and I'm glad this reimagining changed that.
5/5 stars. One of my favorite graphic novels ever, and I can't wait for volume 3. Really hoping that it wouldn't take Geoff Johns a few years to finish it. As I said in one of my past reviews, Geoff Johns is my favorite graphic novel writer ever, and gladly he hasn't let me down so far....more

I honestly couldn't say that any one of the stories could be considered a favorite, but they were thrilling nonetheless. The struggles Batman had coping up with the lost of his son was a good read, and brought an emotion side to the ever-so-serious Batman. It's good that Snyder decided to show that Batman does have emotions, but hopefully it wouldn't be over abundant in the next volumes. I wouldn't want Batman to turn into a drama series.
Compared to Vol.4 and 5, this was a huge improvement. Despite having no singular plot of its own, it was a great compilation. Just like a lot of people, I'm also wondering what is up with the t-rex in the batcave? Not saying it wasn't cool, but what is up with that?
4.5/5 stars. Nothing compared to the first volume of the series, but a great contender. Can't wait for vol.7 to come out!...more
