I think RPO really ended well as a standalone and Im sure most didn't expect this not so needed sequel. Did Cline just ride up the hype from the movie (was pretty good) or if not what was the purpose of this? I vaguely remember RPO listed (here and on Amazon) as a standalone book
My main problem with this novel was not the vast amount of pop culture references. In fact I enjoyed those despite not knowing every single one that he mentioned every few sentences. My main problem with this one is that the premise is really good but executed poorly. Nothing was happening for a really long time and my interest just wasn't enough for me to push through with this anymore
While Ive always seen RPO as a standalone, I still started this novel with high expectations. One of my most disappointing reads ever. I just can't waste any more of my time trying to finish this. I even tried to just power through the last (6 hours) via audiobook but I didn't even make it 2 chapters more in the audiobook before deciding to abandon this completely...more

I expected nothing but action, but all I got was a pretender who kept complaining about her wardrobe and other princess shit. I didn't DNF @ 50 pages.
I expected nothing but action, but all I got was a pretender who kept complaining about her wardrobe and other princess shit. I didn't buy this thinking it was a disney fairytale story. I'm sure there are other assassin themed YA books that would live up to its premise. I'm tempted to rate this 1 star, but I have a rule of not rating DNF books. Only exception would be The Lost Code because that book was even worse than this....more
I rarely mark a book dnf, and when it happens, it means that the book was terrible. In this case though, I'm quite certain that something isDNF at 50%
I rarely mark a book dnf, and when it happens, it means that the book was terrible. In this case though, I'm quite certain that something is wrong with me, and not the book. As of now the average rating of this book is 4.61, and that's really high. I believe all of my friends enjoyed this book, but I'm clearly bored and uninterested anymore. I was very excited though when Netgalley approved me for this, but after 50%, I just can't waste any more time with this.
Red Rising was quite enjoyable for me. It had action and great character development. I've read RR months ago, and I've forgotten most of the characters already. That being said, I believe that if I were to reread RR, then I might give this one another shot. For now though, it's now part of my dnf shelf. I don't have the luxury of time to reread RR, and clearly I won't waste more time to drag myself and finish 50% more of this. Everything got boring, a lot of useless conversation happening. I didn't really care anymore about the main character, more so the supporting ones. In short, I've lost interest....more

There's nothing to keep me going, not even the main character. Loki's one of my favorites ever since, but not in this novel. It's either the research done was very faulty, or her writing's just not working for me. This is not the Loki that I know, and the plot itself is very bad. Not going to waste any more time....more
