This was quite a captivating story.

Im not quite sure who was dumber, Joan or Elliot. They were truly a match made in hell and heading towards destruction. I loved their "relationship". Joan spent a lot of time in denial while Elliot threw himself into a maddening obsession. I believe on some level Joan began to love Elliot.
When she ran, she came back.
When she thought he had died, she cried.
When she punished him, she became obsessed.
When she got him back, she lied, killed, and took in a fugitive just to keep him.

No matter what happened in life, she always gave in and gave him a way to come back to her.

Now Elliot is a different story. I believe he was more obsessed with loving Joan than he was really in love with her. Something dark inside her spoke to him and he found her hard to resist. He was willing to do anything for her, even plead guilty. In the end, she was his weakness and although he had to give his little birdie back her wings, he still got to keep her.
