Article I: Name

The name of the club shall be Jimma University Material Impact Society (JUMIS).

Article II: Purpose and Objectives

Section 1: Purpose
The purpose of JUMIS is to engage students in material science and engineering for
impactful community service, innovation, research, and sports development.

Section 2: Objectives
 Community Engagement:
Provide scientific and technical support to local businesses. Conduct workshops on local
material resources and their economic potential.
 Innovation and Research:
Encourage student-led research on material science applications. Partner with local industries
and organizations for research projects.
 Charity and Voluntary Work:
Organize donation drives and community service events.
 Sports and Wellness:
Establish male and female football and tennis teams. Promote teamwork, health, and
inclusivity through sports activities.

Article III: Membership

Section 1: Eligibility
Membership is open to all students at Jimma University Institute of Technology students
of department of material science and engineering regardless of, gender and academic year.

Section 2: Membership Requirements


Active participation in at least one sub-team. Payment of a nominal membership fee (amount
to be determined). Commitment to attending meetings and participating in club activities.

Section 3: Rights and Responsibilities


Members have the right to vote in elections and propose amendments. Members are
responsible for upholding the club’s mission and objectives.

Article IV: Governance and Leadership

Section 1: Executive Committee Roles

1. President:
 Provides overall leadership and strategic direction.
 Represents the club in official matters.

2. Vice President:
 Assists the President and manages sub-team operations.
 Oversees special projects and events.

3. Secretary:
 Maintains records, schedules meetings, and manages communication.

4. Finance:
 Manages finances, prepares budgets, and maintains financial records.

5. Community Engagement Officer:


 Coordinates outreach activities and community support projects.

6. Sports Coordinator:
 Manages the football and tennis teams and schedules sports events.
7. Research and Innovation Lead:
 Oversees research projects and fosters student innovation.

8. Public Relations Officer:


 Manages the club’s media presence and communication with external stakeholders.

Section 2: Election Procedures


Elections shall be held annually during the last month of the academic year. Members may
nominate themselves or be nominated by others. Voting shall be conducted by secret ballot.

Section 3: Term of Office


- Executive members shall serve for one academic year and may seek re-election.

Article V: Meetings

Section 1: General Meetings


Held monthly to update members and discuss activities. A quorum of 50% of members is
required for major decisions.

Section 2: Executive Meetings


Held bi-weekly to plan activities and address operational issues. Executive members are
required to attend.

Article VI: Finances

Section 1: Sources of Funds


 Membership fees.
 Fundraising events.
 Donations and grants.

Section 2: Financial Management


 The finance shall maintain accurate financial records.
 An annual financial report shall be presented to members.

Section 3: Accountability
All expenditures must be approved by the President and finance.

Article VII: Sports Activities


 Male and female football and tennis teams will be established.
 Training sessions shall be held regularly.
 The club shall participate in inter-department and inter-university sports competitions.

Article VIII: Amendments


 Amendments to this constitution require a two-thirds majority vote during a General
Meeting.
 Proposed amendments must be submitted in writing at least two weeks before the
vote.
Article IX: Dissolution
The club may only be dissolved by a two-thirds majority vote at a General Meeting.
Remaining funds and resources shall be donated to a charitable cause approved by members.
