“Marshmellow Butterfly”

brooch crochet pattern

Materials
Any lace yarn. All colors are of the same weight. Mine are 100% mercerized cotton
Pelican by Vita 330 m / 50 gr (365 yds / 1.76 oz) of different colors.
Matching hook. Mine is 0.75 mm (metric)
Filler
Fine wire to make the horns. Ideally black or brow, in order not to wrap the wire around
with a thread. I have a floristic wire in a white braiding 0.5 mm
Pliers and round pliers to work with the wire.
If necessary, glue to wrap the wire around with the thread, fine black thread.
Black Mouline embroidery floss to embroider the eyes.
Any means to add tone to the cheeks. I used black and red dry pastels + blender blush
Brooch pin, mine is 2 cm
Scissors, fine needle
Pins
Stitch marker (I have a contrasting
thread)

If you use the materials

measure 5x4.5 cm.

All parts are made in a spiral (i.e.


without sl st at the end). !!! Please note that stitches can move due to the
yarn thickness, crochet tension and crochet

Abbreviations (us terms)

Cut the thread, leaving a tail to sew the body and brooch pin.

Take two cuts of the wire to make the horns.


Insert them into the head, make plugs in the form of the loops, add little glue to them and
pull the cuts. Cut off the extra length. My horns are approximately 2 cm (0.7 inches).

Stuff the head. Take the filler bit by bit and distribute evenly inside the part in a thin layer.

My yarn is of light-purple color.


Making body
1. Make a chain of 11 scs, in the 2'nd st from hook: inc, 8 sc, 3 sc in the last st together,
9 sc along the bottom of the chain (22). Next crochet in a round:

Cut the yarn, stuff.

Making wings
Dark-purple. Don’t stuff.
1. 6 sc in MR
2. 6 inc (12)
3. - 4. ( 2 rounds) 12 sc
Cut the yarn and crochet one more similar part.
5. Join the first part. I join by making a single crochet (without slip stitch),
i.e. I make a joining single crochet, 11 sc;
we’ve reached the 2'nd part: 12 sc (24 sc in total)

6. 5 sc, dec, 10 sc, dec, 5 sc (22)


7. 4 sc, dec, 9 sc, dec, 5 sc (20)
8. 4 sc, dec, 8 sc, dec, 4 sc (18)
9. 4 sc, dec, 7 sc, dec (unfinished round)
10. Fold in halves and crochet through both sides 8 sc.
Leave a tail to sew to the body and cut. 4.
Making legs (2)
We will alternate two colors.
I begin with the mustard color:
1. 5 sc in MR
2. 5 inc (10)
Beige:
3. 10 sc
4. 10 sc
Mustard:
5. 1 sc, 4 dec, 1 sc (6)
Stuff quite tightly.
6. 2 sc, 2 sc in the beige crochets of round 4
(pls see the photo). Next in order not to make rom here there is the 5th
the mistake and avoid making extra stitches, usual sc of the Round 6
calculate the stitches from the end: 2 sc along
the main round (6).
Beige:
7. 6 sc
8. 6 sc
Mustard:
9. 6 sc
Stuff up to the end. Leave a tail to sew to the
body and cut.
Making arms (2)
My yarn is of milk color.
1. 6 sc in MR
2. - 5. (4 rounds) 6 sc
Leave a tail to sew and cut. Stuff, pull the
hole shut, run the thread out on the side.

Assembly
Sew the head to the body circle-wise in the
front loops of the stitches.

Attach the brooch pin

Pin the wings and check if all is symmetrical from all sides. Sew.

Sew the legs circle-wise, tips facing the


top in the front loops of the stitches.

7.
Use a single Mouline thread to embroider Wrap the wire
the eyes. I secured the embroidery with around gradually
an instant CA glue. adding the glue.

Add tone to the cheeks, wings and embellish the head with the beads or French knots.

Our butterfly is ready!

“Heart” brooch. Add-on.
If we continue to crochet the wings of the
butterfly, we will get a heart. I crochet 3 cm
(`1 inch) tiny brooches following this pattern
with Coco by Vita yarn 240 m/50 gr ( 262
yds/1.76 oz) - 3-ply yarn.

I repeat the pattern hereby.


Stuff quite tightly as you proceed crocheting.
1. 6 sc in MR
2. 6 inc (12)
3. - 4. ( 2 rounds) 12 sc
Cut the yarn and crochet one more similar
part.
5. Join the first part. I join by making a
single crochet (without slip stitch),
i.e. I make a joining single crochet, 11 sc;
we’ve reached the 2'nd part: 12 sc (24 sc in
total)
I’ve got a small hole when joining the parts, I
sew it up at the end.
