Sizes
{ 1 – 60 sts, 2 – 66 sts, 3 – 72 sts }
Finished foot circumference, unstretched: { 17.6, 19.4, 21.2 } cm / { 7, 7.75, 8.5 } ”
The socks were designed to be worn with about 2.5 cm / 1 “ of negative ease in width.
Measure your foot circumference at the widest point, behind the toes. Remember that the sock
stretches out also in length, so make it about 1.5 – 2.5 cm / 0.75 – 1“ shorter than your foot’s
length. Due to the fact that the gusset and heel have a constant number of rounds, the sock
should be shortened in the FOOT part.
Yarn
Any “sock” fingering weight yarn. You’ll need about { 270, 300, 320 } m / { 290, 320, 350 } y.
Note: The yardage is estimated and depends on sock length.
Needles
2.25 mm ( US #1 ) circular needles or DPNS, or size needed to get the proper gauge.
2.0 mm ( US #0 ) circular needles or DPNS, or one size smaller than the gauge needles.
Additional Materials
stitch markers, row counter, tapestry needle for weaving ends.
Gauge
34 sts and 46 rnds = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 “ - in stockinette stitch pattern worked in the round with
2.25 mm / US #1 needles.
Note: Measure the gauge after washing and blocking the swatch – the swatch should be worked
in the round. If necessary, adjust the needle size to get the proper gauge.

Instructions
Bricks shorties are worked from top-cuff-down, seamlessly in the round, with the heel flap. The
pattern was made for magic loop technique, so if you are using DPNS, divide stitches from both
needles in half.
Option 1: Ribbed cuff
Using needles in smaller size, 2.0 mm ( US #0 ), and German Twisted or any other stretchy cast-
on method you prefer, CO { 60, 66, 72 } sts. If you find the CO edge to tight, cast-on stitches with
slightly bigger needles. Divide sts evenly into two needles.
Join for working in the round, making sure, that sts are not twisted and pm for BOR.
Rnd 1: sm BOR, [ k1 tbl, p1 ], rep in [ ] to m BOR.
Rep rnd 1 until cuff measures about 2 cm / 0.75 “ from CO edge.
Option 2: Double layered cuff
Using needle in size 2.0 mm ( US #0 ) CO { 60, 66, 72 } sts with Provisional Crochet Chain Cast-On
Method. Join for working in the round making sure that sts are not twisted, place BOR marker.
Knit 19 rnds.
Unravel the crochet chain and place { 60, 66, 72 } live sts on spare circular needle.
Fold the cuff in half with wrong sides facing each other – place both needles side by side with
folded edge pointing downwards. Main needle should be placed on the front and the spare needle
should be behind the main needle. Join both layers by knitting sts from both needles at the same
time.
Before you start working the heel flap, divide stitches on the needles as follows:
BN - { 31, 33, 37 } sts and FN - { 29, 33, 35 } sts.
Hell flap
You’ll make now the heel flap, flat on the BN. The heel flap is worked over { 31, 33, 37 } sts.
In the following rows you’ll be slipping the first stitch of each row (knitwise or purlwise).
Change needles to bigger size, 2.25mm / US #1.
Row 1 (RS): BN – k4, [ sl 1 purlwise wyib, k1 ] to last 5 sts, sl 1 purlwise wyib, k4, turn work.
Row 2 (WS): BN – sl 1 purlwise wyif, k3, p to last 4 sts, k4, turn work.
Row 3 (RS): BN – sl 1 knitwise wyif, k3, [ sl 1 purlwise wyib, k1 ] to last 5 sts, sl 1 purlwise wyib, k4,
turn work.
Row 4 (WS): BN – sl 1 purlwise wyif, k3, p to last 4 sts, k4, turn work.
Rep rows 3 and 4 { 13, 14, 16 } more times.
