Biography
Tears of the Kingdom
Qia, the Sage of Water, was one of the Six Sages who fought alongside the first King of Hyrule, Rauru, during the Imprisoning War. She was a leader of the Zora, and she attained her status as a Sage after receiving a Secret Stone from Rauru.[1][12]
During the Memory "The Sages' Vow", Qia reports to Rauru that the last free village in the Gerudo Desert has fallen to Demon King Ganondorf.[13] Within the Forgotten Temple, Rauru grants the remaining four Secret Stones to Qia, Agraston, Raphica, and Ardi, hoping to strengthen them before their battle with the Demon King.[1][14] Her Secret Stone turns into a Secret Stone of Water, and she becomes the Sage of Water. Following this, the Six Sages swear a vow of loyalty to Rauru.[15]
In flashbacks to the Imprisoning War, Qia can be seen wielding a Lightscale Trident. She appears wounded by Gloom during the Memory "The Imprisoning War". In attempt to distract Demon King Ganondorf, she throws her Trident at him, which Zelda sends backwards using Recall. Following this, Qia witnesses Rauru sacrifice himself to seal the Demon King.[16]
After the Imprisoning War, Zelda visited Qia at the Water Temple.[17] Zelda informed her that Demon King Ganondorf would break from his seal one day, and she asked the Sage to ensure the Zora will help Link face him in the future.[18] Qia swore that her successor would awaken when the Demon King returns and fight alongside Link.[19] Later, in the Memory "Tears of the Dragon", Qia and the other three remaining Sages watch as the Light Dragon flies off into the Sky.
During the Main Quest "Sidon of the Zora", Link and Sidon repeatedly hear Qia's voice beckoning them to the Water Temple on Wellspring Island.[20] When they reach the Temple, the Sage instructs them to fill the Water Vessels by spinning the four Water Wheels, which will allow them to wash away a large pile of Sludge.[21] Once Mucktorok has been defeated, the Sludge covering the Secret Stone in the Water Temple will disappear.[22] When Sidon touches the Stone, the two will be engulfed in Light, and Qia appears before them. She identifies herself as Sidon's ancestor, and she expresses pride in his Power of Water.[1] The Sage reveals that Mucktorok was sent by Demon King Ganondorf to prevent Sidon from finding her Secret Stone.[23] She then proceeds to tell Link and Sidon about the Imprisoning War and her promise to Zelda.[24]
After finishing her story, Qia reveals that, although Zora's Domain has been saved, the entirety of Hyrule is still threatened by Demon King Ganondorf.[25] Therefore, she asks Sidon to fulfill her promise and help Link as the new Sage of Water.[26]
Other Appearances
Age of Imprisonment
Qia is the princess of the Zora. After the Forbidden Construct awakens and kills her father, she reluctantly inherits the throne. She is considered to be a skilled Warrior, which serves as an inspiration to her people.[11][27] She is recruited as part of the Scenario "Lanayru Defiled".
Trivia
- In Tears of the Kingdom, Qia has a fully modeled face beneath her Divine Helm, which differs from her appearance in Age of Imprisonment. However, this was not intended to be seen and is not visible during regular gameplay.
Nomenclature
Qia's name may be derived from the ending of Myllokunmingia, a prehistoric genus of chordate considered to be one of the earliest ancestors of fish. Her name follows the same pattern as her fellow Sages Agraston, Raphica, and Ardi being named for the earliest known specimens or ancestors of what their tribe is based on.

Sidon, my cherished kin.
— Qia (Tears of the Kingdom)That voice again. You're the one we've been hearing this whole time?
— Sidon (Tears of the Kingdom)Indeed. I am your ancestor from a time long past. I served the first King of Hyrule as a Zora warrior and a sage who, like you, could direct the flow of water. You are the pride of the Zora. Your fluid, graceful movements as you fight... I would expect nothing less from my descendant.

Rauru. The Demon King... He is not someone you can stop by yourself. But...you are not alone. You have the Gerudo, Goron, Zora, and Rito leaders, as well as Zelda... And of course...you can count on me.

Cherished kin... This is the source of the pure waters of Zora's Domain. Use your power to turn on the four faucets, and you can collect water here. Heed my words...

You combined forces with Sidon to defeat the monster producing the sludge. What remained of the substance dispersed, taking the threat to the Zora along with it.

Sidon was left gazing at the strange stone that appeared when the sludge vanished. - ↑
You bested the monster that sullied our domain, but it was a servant of a greater evil—the Demon King. His true purpose was to prevent you from obtaining the stone that you just found—my secret stone.
— Qia (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
Yes. And it is important you know more about the stone and the Demon King. So listen closely to what I have to say. It concerns the Imprisoning War and the destiny of our people.
— Qia (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
That is everything there is to share of the Imprisoning War and of the destiny of the Zora. Zora's Domain is once again safe, thanks to you. However, the Demon King continues to threaten all of Hyrule.
— Qia (Tears of the Kingdom) - ↑
Sidon, my cherished kin. You must take up my secret stone and honor the vow I made to the Sage of Time. Fight alongside the swordsman Link.
