Congress May Make Automakers Keep AM Radio

Ever since Rush Limbaugh passed away on February 17, 2021, I have not listened to anything on AM radio. Despite that, if I were to buy a new car, I would not want a radio in it that doesn't include the AM band.

AM radio is a vital source for news, weather reports and emergencies. 

But some automakers are dropping the AM band on new EV and some fossil fuel vehicles. This is prompting a, surprisingly, bipartisan response in congress.

WASHINGTON – Reception was scratchy until the AM knob was tuned precisely, but for truckers all over the country in the 1970s and 1980s, WWL’s Charlie Douglas kept them company throughout the night from New Orleans.

The soundtrack for workers on oil rigs off Louisiana’s shore came out of KLEB in Golden Meadow.

Terrestrial radio communication based on "amplitude modulation" was the first national media and came into wide use at the same time as the light bulb. As technology improved, AM evolved to become the primary player of rock and roll, country music and the blues in the 1950s and 1960s.

The latest evolution towards internet streaming and satellite technology poses a fatal risk to AM, and broadcasters are looking for a congressional solution.

Some makers of electric vehicles have stopped including AM radio. A bunch of other manufacturers plan to remove in-dash AM access, even in fossil fuel cars.

WWL and other radio stations around the nation are asking listeners to “take two minutes” to inform Congress of their support for AM radio. Broadcasters this month are on Capitol Hill lobbying for the “AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act of 2023,” or S.1169, which would require installation of AM broadcast radio in cars without cost to the consumer.

Even in a fractured Congress, the bill by Sen. Ed Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat, has found common ground among usual ideological foes from Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Classic Rock Music Monday

The stuff that now passes as "music", particularly rock 'n roll, leaves me cold. So, to start off the week, here's a video of a classic rock artist. 

To start off the week, we have The Pretenders with a song that is familiar to people, especially conservatives, as it was the opening theme song for the Rush Limbaugh Show, "My City Was Gone". It was used with their permission, by the way.

The original band consisted of founder and main songwriter Chrissie Hynde (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), James Honeyman-Scott (lead guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), Pete Farndon (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Martin Chambers (drums, backing vocals, percussion). Following the deaths of Honeyman-Scott in 1982 and Farndon in 1983, the band experienced numerous personnel changes; Hynde has been the band's only consistent member.

The Pretenders were inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.

Lynette "Diamond" Hardaway, R.I.P.

Sad news came last night. Former President Donald Trump broke the news on Truth Social.

From Rolling Stone:

LYNETTE HARDAWAY, ALSO known as Diamond of the political duo “Diamond and Silk,” has died. Her death was confirmed on Diamond and Silk’s official Facebook page on Monday night.

“The World just lost a True Angel and Warrior Patriot for Freedom, Love, and Humanity! Diamond blazed a trail, founded on her passion and love for the entire race of humanity,” the post read, which was accompanied by a photo of Hardaway. The post also linked to to a Christian crowdfunding site where contributions will be received by Herneitha Rochelle Hardaway Richardson, who is also known as “Silk.”

The cause of Hardaway death is not currently known; reports cite that her age was 51.

Rush Limbaugh's Widow Confirms Death Certificate Rumor

The late talk show host Rush Limbaugh gave the media one last tweak after his passing on February 17, 2021.

It was something that apparently was rumored (I hadn't heard of it) for a while. His widow, Kathryn, confirmed it with Glenn Beck.

According to the Western Journal:

Rush Limbaugh, the late king of talk radio, had one final tweak for the left-wing media that hated him so much, and it’s something he just knew his fans would love.

Kathryn Adams Limbaugh, the widow of the conservative talk radio legend, recently joined Glenn Beck’s radio show and confirmed the rumor that Rush wanted his death certificate to deliver one last jab at the media.

Beck asked Kathryn if the rumors about Rush’s death certificate were true. Did Rush’s final official document say that his occupation was “greatest radio host of all time”?

Kathryn laughed as she replied, “Yes. We have to be on brand at all times. … Another thing that we wanted to do and a way to tweak the media as a final goodbye from Rush, which we know he certainly would have loved."

First Anniversary of the Passing of Rush Limbaugh

A few minutes ago, Bo Snerdley Tweeted the following on the first anniversary of the passing of Rush Limbaugh:

A year ago Rush left us. It is still painful to deal with but there is also much gratitude. For 33 years he took the arrows from the left. Today - there are millions of us standing up for America. He was so much more than politics. I miss you Rush. Every day.

For me, it is still unreal that Rush is gone. It changed my daily routine of listening to his show in the morning almost everyday. There is definitely a void still felt a year later.

Today, Rush's widow Kathryn will honor Rush’s legacy from their Palm Beach home on Fox & Friends with Ainsley Earhardt.

Maybe this means Victoria's Secret will begin carrying L.L. Bean overalls?

Missouri House Approves "Rush Limbaugh Day"

The late conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh may be honored with Rush Limbaugh Day if legislation establishing it passes the Missouri legislature and signed by the governor.

The New York Post reported:

 A proposal to honor late conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh with an official state designation is one step closer in Missouri.

The state’s GOP-led House approved legislation Thursday that would designate Jan. 12 as “Rush Limbaugh Day,” marking the Cape Girardeau native’s birthday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The measure now needs approval from the Senate prior to the end of the legislative session next Friday. The sponsor of the proposal, Rep. Hardy Billington (R-Poplar Bluff), tacked it onto another bill regarding several other proposed state designations, according to the report.

Limbaugh, 70, died in February after a yearlong battle with lung cancer.

Idiot Bill Kristol: "No Border Crisis"

The lunacy of the "never Trumpers" of so-called conservatives has been maddening, but Bill Kristol really takes the cake for being the biggest loon of all of them.

The late great Rush Limbaugh had him pegged perfectly.

RUSH: Like Bill Kristol today has come out and endorsed Joe Biden.

Now, how many of you people…? How many of you people gave Bill Kristol thousands of dollars to go on so-called conservative cruises with the guy? You know, after every Republican election when we would lose, Kristol or these guys would do their cruises to the fjords of Norway or wherever exotic places they went. You know, they’d take you to subfreezing temperatures in December.

They’d do their lectures and all of their appearances with their Never Trumper buddies, at the time you thought that they were conservative thought leaders, and they’re sitting there and they’re telling you, “Don’t worry, we got it. We might have lost this election but we’re still succeeding in implementing what we believe.” Then Trump comes along and they throw it all away. Their magazines go defunct, go out of business because their subscribers say, “Hey, these guys aren’t even conservatives, they’re ripping it!”

They start new magazines, new organizations. Now they’re endorsing Democrats. How many of you people gave these people all that money to go on these postelection cruises? I know some of you in this audience did. How many of you…? They have these… Some of them don’t go on cruises. They just book hotels for the weekend, and they call it, you know, The Vote for Us Weekend or the Conservatism Is Still Alive Weekend or whatever.

What prompted this was the above Tweet from Rush's former producer Bo Snerdley.

Yep, Kristol hasn't changed. He's nothing but a phony jerk. Maybe he wants liberals and leftists to cruise with him in subfreezing temperatures.

Today's Mail: Rush Limbaugh Mementos

Not too long after it was announced that Rush Limbaugh passed away, I went over to the Rush Limbaugh Show website to see what the show's store had to offer.

Well, there wasn't much since most items were sold out. Later, I heard that the store was closed down (I haven't checked to see if it was true). 

I did find something to order. It is a long sleeve shirt. 

It arrived in today's mail. Along with it was a memorial card.

Trump Triumphs At CPAC

Former President Donald Trump gave a rousing speech today at CPAC in Orlando, Florida.

He paid tribute to Rush Limbaugh, who passed away two weeks ago. His widow, Kathryn, was present to receive Trump's tribute.

He also strongly hinted that he will be running again in 2024 (Holy Grover Cleveland, Batman!). He also said that he will be out campaigning for America First Republicans and against RINO Republicans (he listed the RINOs he'll be going after).

Of course, he attacked His Fraudulency Joe Biden for his disastrously bad 40 days in office. 

Trump also won a straw poll of CPAC attendees by over 50%.

Last night, I received the following email from Melanie Morgan. I thought I'd share it. - A.

Remembering our hero: Rush Limbaugh

I woke up this morning with an uneasy feeling. One of my Facebook friends posted an urgent note to pray for Rush Limbaugh. I replied that I pray for my friend of over 40 years each and every single day. As I always do, I turned on the radio at 9:00 for the beginning of his multi-award winning radio show and to my shock, I heard (for the first time) the voice of his wife Kathryn.

I knew instantly what she was going to say. When she relayed the word that Rush had passed in the middle of the night, I burst out crying.

But I passionately want to share some of the things I know about Rush, and his amazing journey to the center of the Radio world, where he will remain a giant in my life and the lives of millions of Americans.

Since 2001 Limbaugh has been fighting and overcoming several health issues. From an inner-ear disease that required him to wear a hearing aid to a battle with highly addictive painkillers, Rush never let these struggles stop him from reaching his beloved audience, who love and await his positive, patriotic message.

On Rush Limbaugh's 20th anniversary as a radio talk show host, debuting on the EIB (Excellence in Broadcasting) radio network, WorldNetDaily asked me to write a column honoring Rush. So it might seem fairly odd that I began this piece talking about the personal and professional setbacks El Rushbo has experienced in the past few years. But there is a purpose, a higher purpose. Hang with me for a minute.

I have known Rush Limbaugh since I was a teenager beginning in the radio business in my hometown of Kansas City, Mo., where he and I worked at KUDL radio. But when he moved to Sacramento to begin his talk show at KFBK, I asked my boss at KGO in San Francisco to give him a listen. I thought he was really so different from anything that I had ever heard on the radio.

Over the years I watched my longtime friend Rush build his brand into a media powerhouse the likes of which the world had never seen, and likely will never see again. He almost single-handedly forged the talk radio industry as we know it today and built it up into a billion dollar business. Many of the colleagues I now call friends got their start in the radio business with inspiration from Rush.

Over the years, Rush has donated more than a million dollars to my charity organization Move America Forward, making him the largest donor in our history. When I pitched him on the idea of doing a Internet show to raise money for care packages for our troops, he wrote me back “I want IN.”

He appeared on our show raising money to send care packages to the troops for 13 years, always with a smile of appreciation for our work, and nothing but praise for the brave men and women who defend our freedom.

When Rush started getting sicker, I wrote him more frequently about our shared memories. He wrote back that his memory was now ‘gray’ and he was having a hard time focusing. But he promised me he would write back a lengthier note soon.

Sadly, that letter never arrived. His legacy will be defined now. Those who knew Rush and loved him must write his history, lest his haters be allowed to define him. I am determined that should NOT happen.

I will never, ever forget the basic kindness and generosity of Rushton Hudson Limbaugh and all that he has done for America, and given humbly and without expectation.

God be with you, my friend.

You are already missed.

Remembering Rush Limbaugh

The first time I ever heard Rush Limbaugh on the radio was around 1989 while working at Superior National Insurance Company in Calabasas, California. 

Glenn Thornhill and I were driving during our lunch hour and he had Rush on the radio. After listening for a half hour or so, I was hooked. His was a unique show. It was a conservative talk show, but it was entertaining with humorous parodies with hilarious results. From then on, I listened regularly, so much so that it will be life-changing for me. Who am I going to listen to, now that he passed away? 

During that period, or shortly thereafter, Rush had a television show. It was politics mixed with entertainment. Favorite moments from his show included the aftermath of the 1994 mid-term elections where the Democrats got stomped and a skit with actor James MacArthur of Hawaii Five-O fame. 

In L.A., the Rush Limbaugh Show was broadcast (mainly on KFI-AM until a station switch) from 9:00 to noon. Here in New Mexico, I listened on Albuquerque's KKOB-AM from 10:00 to 1:00. 

His last broadcast was about two weeks ago. His voice started to sound gravelly and he admitted to feeling fatigued. I began to become alarmed that his time on earth was ending by his continued absence. But, a guest host this week said that last week was "treatment week" and he will be back when he can. I somewhat relaxed. 

Then, this morning, his wife Kathryn came on following the opening theme (the Pretenders' "My City Was Gone") to announce that Rush passed away this morning at age 70. Totally devastating news to me. It was news we've been dreading.

Who can pick up the torch after Rush? Dan Bongino would be good, but he has his own cancer problems he's now dealing with. 

It was amazing that Rush lasted as long as he did following his diagnosis of Stage 4 lung cancer back in January 2020. He was amazed he lasted as long as he did, he said so last Christmas. Speaking of Christmas, Rush played a lot of Manheim Steamroller Christmas music during the holiday season over the years. 

Thank goodness President Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom during the 2020 State of Union. Who else would have had the chutzpah to award it to Rush with all congressional Democrats present and before a national audience? Priceless! 

We conservatives are in mourning today. But we can also be thankful that we had Rush's voice over the airwaves for as long as we did (over 30 years). 

My condolences go out to Kathryn and the Limbaugh family. He will be sorely missed.

Mrs. Kathryn Adams Limbaugh, Rush Limbaugh's wife, announced moments ago that Rush passed away this morning from lung cancer. He was 70.

I had a feeling these past two weeks that he was sinking.

Democrats Have A Problem

GameStop: The Elites Got Beaten At Their Own Game

El Rushbo (Rush Limbaugh), during yesterday's show, explained in detail what was happening concerning the GameStop story. He was, for once, accurately quoted by the mainstream media following his show. Frankly, the talking heads of the media don't have the intelligence needed to explain it well enough to make people understand it. So, they quoted Rush.

Here's some snippets:

RUSH: Let me go over some things here just to set the table, give you some things that are gonna shake out today that we’re gonna be talking about. There’s a fascinating thing — it is the most fascinating thing that’s going on out there a long time. Have you heard the story? Do you know the details of what’s going with GameStop?

Folks, it’s not just political now. The elites are bent out of shape that a bunch of average, ordinary users have figured out how to make themselves billionaires using – (interruption) I’m gonna explain it. I’m gonna take the time necessary to explain this. You’re damn right. I’ve been studying it all morning. And the best thing I can tell you is that whatever you think is going on in politics — the Washington establishment, the deep state, what have you — it’s the same thing in finance. There are those who are allowed to make all of the money and those of you who aren’t.

And if you figure out how to make a lot of money and if you’re like Donald Trump and you figure out how to get elected, you figure out how to beat the deep state, they’re gonna come out and they’re gonna wipe you out; they’re gonna destroy you. That’s what’s happening with GameStop. A bunch of people on Reddit figured out how to game the system. They figured out how to turn the system into a profit-making device for themselves.

In the process, they are harming the intended winners in this financial circumstance, and that would be the hedge funds out there. The hedge funds are supposed to be the ones making a lot of money, and they’re not. And they’re begging other hedge funds to bail them out. So, yes, I’m going to explain this. It’s not gonna take a long time, but folks, it’s fascinating. And the reason that it is fascinating is now it’s not just politics.

Now they’re not just calling us racists, sexists, bigots, homophobes in a way to control us, in a way to shame us. Now they’re actually making it clear to anybody who has the ability to notice that you’re not allowed to use the stock market the way they do. You’re not allowed to profit. You’re not allowed to make the kind of money they do.

But this GameStop business now makes this something that is understandable beyond the political world, and that is its value. It’s not just political anymore. It’s not just that you can’t think for yourself on issues and matters of politics. You know, everything is rigged in favor of the elites, and this has come along and upset that rigging. You know, if everything doesn’t benefit the establishment, then it has to be censored, right? Your speech, your attitude, if it doesn’t benefit the establishment, it’s gotta be censored. It’s gotta be canceled. It’s gotta be silenced.

Some hedge fund managers shorted GameStop’s — now, what is GameStop? What the hell is it? GameStop is a company. This has not been widely explained because the elites don’t take the time to explain this. But let me tell you what it is. GameStop is a company that sells physical copies of video games in dying malls. I mean, they’re an out-of-fashion company. It’s another thing that ticks off the elites. This company is way behind the times. They’re selling physical copies of video games next to all the other dying stores in malls.

But right now GameStop has become the most highly traded asset in the United States. GameStop’s stock price was $4 last summer, $20 at the end 2020, is now worth close to $300. And here is a passage from an elitist publication describing it.

“Essentially, many normal-ish people have made a huge bet against gigantic [hedge funds] financial institutions and are currently winning. In practice this means we are seeing one of the -” and here is the rub of it, folks. “We are seeing one of the largest wealth transfers from the financial ruling class to the middle and middle-upper classes in recent memory.” And it’s not been authorized, you see. It’s just happening within the normal ebb and flow of the market. Some normalish people figured out how to earn a hell of a lot of money using the establishment’s own methods against them.
