A new multiplayer mobile strategy game set in the world of Avatar, where players work together to defeat a “Barbarian Death Cult that worships an evil spirit set on dominating the world” is coming in 2024
As the title says, a new game has been announced! From Paramount (Avatar Studios’ parent company), Tilting Point, and AN Games (no relation to Avatar News lol), a city-building multiplayer mobile game is coming in 2024.
Right now we don’t know when the game is set, i.e. when this “Barbarbian Death Cult” is active. The press release (see below) does mention that players will “interact with beloved characters” so it has to be during some known Avatar’s lifetime. The artwork provided to us above contains characters from both ATLA and TLOK with a Korra-era background, but I wouldn’t read too much into it. Also I just have to say for posterity that the idea of the villains being “barbarians” feels a little off, but we’ll have to wait and see!
It’s possible that this is the “MMORPG” that was revealed to be planned last year– it’s likely that the “console RPG” in the same post turned out to be Quest for Balance, so it’s possible both of those games have now been accounted for.
Check out the press release they sent us (bolding ours):
Tilting Point, one of the leading global publishers of free-to-play games, and real-time strategy game developer AN Games, under license from Paramount Consumer Products, are developing a multiplayer strategy mobile game focused on Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise. Based on the renowned animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, the strategic mobile game will have players explore the Avatar world, interact with beloved characters and work together with other players to defeat a Barbarian Death Cult that worships an evil spirit set on dominating the world. Launching in 2024, the game’s official title and additional details will be announced in the coming months.
In this multiplayer strategy mobile game, players will take on the role of a leader tasked with building an army and community to restore balance in the Avatar world. Strategy is key as players will need to build cities, manage resources, construct and upgrade buildings, explore the world, and engage in tactical combat to become victorious. With a focus on city building, cooperative gameplay, and exploration, players will work together to expand territories, manage resources, and restore harmony to the Avatar world.

Coming in 2023 to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
Update on Kyoshi characters voice casting + “New Generations”
Now that The Rise of Kyoshi update has come to the Avatar Generations mobile game, it seems likely that this is what the Kyoshi characters voice casting that we reported on earlier was actually for, not an animated movie/show like we thought.
As we reported, they were being cast for something called “New Generations”, which now seems like code for a “new” “generation” in Avatar Generations.
This is all just the obvious likely case, but I guess not 100% certain. It just seems like too much of a coincidence that these characters were being voice casted for something called “Avatar: New Generations” and then a month later those same characters appear voiced in something new in something called “Avatar: Generations”. It’s just in a game, not an animated movie/show.
To be fair, this was happening at the EXACT same time as casting for the 2025 animated movie, and we had no idea a Kyoshi update was coming to a game, so it was the obvious assumption at the time that all the casting was for the 2025 animated movie, which we knew for sure was happening, or the 2025 animated show, which would make sense if it had the same production timeline.
Another thing is that this has been described as “official voice over talent from Nickelodeon”, so not sure if that implies these voice actors (who have still not been revealed/credited??) are here to stay if the characters do show up in animation, but it does potentially explain why the casting process got confused with the simultaneous casting process for the animated movie if they were both being done by Nickelodeon itself!
Official first look at young Avatar Kyoshi for the first time ever without her makeup!
Kyoshi, Rangi, Yun, and more characters from the Kyoshi novels have been added as a new “generation” in the official Avatar Generations mobile RPG. Check out some Rise of Kyoshi cutscenes from the game here!
Official first looks at Jianzhu, Hei-Ran, and Tagaka!
The official ATLA Instagram account released these today for the characters’ upcoming appearances in the Avatar Generations mobile RPG! Earth Sage Jianzhu, Master Hei-Ran, and Pirate Queen Tagaka were originally introduced in the Kyoshi novels.
Is this new character next to Aang and Korra possibly our first look at the next earth Avatar?
Is this possibly the most insane easter egg of all time?
In a new piece of official art from Avatar Studios’ game Avatar Generations, Aang and Korra are joined by a third mysterious character. In a tiny medallion-type object next to Aang, which we have extracted, Korra and this new character can be seen back-to-back on equal footing in a perfectly symmetrical parallel.
Aang → Korra → ?
Recently, the next earth Avatar after Aang and Korra’s animated series was revealed to be coming in 2025. If this is an easter egg based on early concept art of the new Avatar (we do know that there is already concept art for the 2025 projects internally at Avatar Studios), this would be possibly one of deepest-cut easter eggs of all time.
Let’s wait and see…

Update on ATLA: Quest for Balance
(Quest for Balance is a video game, this isn’t about the shows or movies.)
Here’s the full timeline of everything that has come out about this game:
- Feb 18 2022: Avatar News exclusively reveals an ATLA console RPG is coming soon.
- Aug 14 2022: ATLA console game titled “Quest for Balance” with Nov 8 2022 release date revealed in official product listings (here’s one of many articles from well-known publications).
- Aug 19 2022: Avatar News is privately shown gameplay footage and description of the game, Avatar News exclusively reveals this information and confirms the official product listings are real and not fake.
- Sep 2 2022: Release date of Nov 8 is approaching with no announcements/marketing yet, Avatar News says it’s “possible [Nov 8 is] actually the date the *trailer* comes out and the game’s official listing mistakenly put that for its release date instead”.
- Nov 7 2022: New release date of Mar 31 2023 goes up on official product listings (example), Avatar News shares this official information and, clearly too optimistically, says the trailer is “likely coming in two days on November 9th”, which should have been “possibly”, and also gets the Nov 8 date wrong 😂.
- Nov 8 (and 9 lol) 2022: Nothing happens.
So as of today, what we know is:
- The newest official release date for the game is Mar 31 2023.
- It previously had an official release date of Nov 8 2022, but marketing didn’t even start by that date.
- A trailer with gameplay footage existed on Aug 19 2022 and Avatar News was shown it.
- And of course the description of the game Avatar News revealed on Aug 19 2022.
We can expand a bit on the timeline of the game’s development: As we said in our first exclusive reveal on Feb 18 2022, the game(s) were coming “much sooner than you think” because they were already “in development in secret for a pretty long time” by then. We can now tell you that in Feb 2022, we already knew the ATLA console RPG (Quest for Balance, but we didn’t know the title back then) was planned for a 2022 release (Nov 8 2022, but we didn’t know the month and day back then). We can now also add that we know the game has been in development since early 2021, and that the gameplay footage we saw on Aug 19 2022 was from the trailer. Make of all that what you will, just laying out the facts.
We also want to say that we did have good reason to believe Nov 8 2022 was possibly the trailer release date, it wasn’t just a blind guess. It’s still possible this was truly the case and it was just pushed back.
As for the new Mar 31 2023 release date, we’ve been told that because that is the last day of the fiscal Q1 of 2023, it’s ***possible*** this is a placeholder and it ***could*** mean that the game will actually come out at any point in Q1: Jan 1 2023 - Mar 31 2023.
To be honest we’ve done our best with the limited information available to us, but our expertise lies in movies and shows, not video games, so at this point given how much of a headache this has been we would recommend just waiting for official announcements (which we will of course share). :)
