I finally broke. Mental health reached a breaking point
I reached my breaking point today . Walked into my managers office and said I couldn’t hack the job anymore . SSA has caused me to break As someone who fights demons from military service , dealing with chronic health problems finally hit a breaking point and cried for the first time in public . I served my country honorably as a combat engineer in the US Army for 15 LONG years . Before I hit year 5 , I had already spent almost 29 of those months in Afghanistan doing route clearance . After two deployments , I finally found my purpose in life and started a family . Fast forward a tad , I start a wonderful career with the federal government, and was amazed at the opportunities, and benefits that came with working , and continuing to serve my country. Since starting working for SSA, I have had a large portion of my colon removed(complications from diverticulitis), a minor stroke, shingles , AFib that resulted in two heart surgeries . I’m still in my 30’s.After hitting my 10 year mark , I made history by publicly crying. I hit my breaking point . I never thought I would admit I’m mentally exhausted . But it happened. The constant barrage of insults from the public . Mad because work isn’t being done . You’re mad because you know why it’s not being done, but you have to become the emotional punching bag . I must say that admitting that I mentally broke today feels really good, but it still saddens me that we’re being deliberately mistreated . What tops it off , is that if you mention anything about it to people outside of work , they chalk it up as being “ left leaning conjecture “. My heart goes out to all my VA folks. I’ve noticed that feds from across the government ether are pretty tight knit . PS. I’m good , I’m getting the help I need . I wanted to share because one thing I have learned is that you should not suffer in silence . After all I have been through , it was rather embarrassing crying in front of another grown man , but having humility will soothe the soul .

as #cybercrime authorities on Tuesday searched the French offices of his social media network X,
the Paris public prosecutor’s office said.
“A search is being conducted today at the French premises of the X platform,”
the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The investigation was then broadened after additional reports criticised the AI chatbot Grok’s role in disseminating Holocaust denials and sexual deepfakes on X,
the prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday.
The social media platform, which has denied the allegations, also in July called the investigation “politically motivated”.
In late January, the European Union hit X with an investigation over Grok’s generation of sexualised deepfake images of women and minors.

I’m wondering if there is an actual decent #billionaire out there or are they all money-grubbing jerks? I’m kind of leaning toward the jerks. Taylor Swift and Dolly Parton could both be billionaires several times over, but they either give most of their money away or invest it in worthwhile causes. That’s being responsible, or in Biblical terms, good stewards. And then there’s #Elon who has said he actually aspires to be the world’s first trillionaire. The attacks on Europe I've seen here the last couple of days, including from people I've generally considered interesting and sophisticated, have been getting unhinged...
I get that EU has problems - GDPR clickthroughs are dumb, Chat Control is awful, they need to be less bureaucratic and supportive toward entrepreneurs, its kindness toward Ukraine often doesn't extend well to Gaza or Sudan or other places, people saying mean things about criminals getting longer sentences than the criminals is just crazy - but the apocalyptic attitude about the issues, evoking imagery of barbarians pillaging Rome etc, seems really over the top.
It feels more like a coordinated attempt to delegitimize than constructive criticism.
(I don't believe the line that "the target is not Europe, it's the EU": I've seen many instances of London specifically being targeted in the hate session, so no, much of it is an attack on Europe)
It just does not match my experience from spending an average of two months every year there for the last decade.

Wikipedia treats Bitcoin like a suspicious side hustle, while Grokipedia

Wikipedia’s Bitcoin page reads like it was edited by central bankers after

It calls it “speculative,” parrots Krugman’s “Ponzi scheme” insult, and
cries about energy use like fiat printing presses don’t run on fossil fuels

The whole thing is padded with IMF talking points about “volatility” and

It even breaks down how mining is pushing renewables faster than most
“green” bureaucrats ever did.
The difference couldn’t be clearer.
Wikipedia worships “neutrality” while quietly defending the financial
status quo.

"Automated Immiseration" is how I read, at a coarse level, what's being proposed. Austerity politics handed down by machines.
The endgame of austerity economics has historically been some variation of fascism. Clara Mattei's meticulously-researched book The Capital Order: How Economists Invented Austerity and Paved the Way to Fascism is a deep dive into how this has played out, especially after WWI. Mattei brings receipts: she has direct quotes indicating economists at the time knew full well what they were doing. The purpose of austerity measures, as spelled out explicitly by the people who invented them, is to discipline citizens and laborers--to keep them from getting any ideas about receiving too many benefits from government--and to re-affirm the position of capital holders at the top of the pecking order.
One comment I had about the "reskilling"/"upskiling" part of the conversation: I don't have the references on hand, but I believe it's been amply documented that "upskilling" almost never happens. It's a word that's thrown around as a salve, to reduce alarm about intended market destruction and job loss.
If upskilling were a serious part of this so-called roadmap, there'd be more specific plans for whose jobs will be displaced, which colleges and universities will educate these displaced folks, how that education will be funded, and which jobs are waiting for them on the other side. The upskilling plans, if serious, would be as detailed and spelled out as the AI/corporate plans are. If the upskilling plans were serious, the presidents of Ivy League and state universities, vocational institutions like coding bootcamps, and other educational institutions would have been present to share their insights and views, especially as regards the realism of re-training as many people as this roadmap and the rhetoric of #AI boosters suggests might be displaced. It'd be wise to include high school educators as well, since such a significant shift in the workforce affects students in high school as well. I didn't read the backgrounds on all 150-ish participants in these Senate forums, but I didn't see or hear about a large contingent of educators among them. As it stands the roadmap document only vaguely refers to "legislation" that doesn't yet exist.
Frankly, I see little that sounds serious in this "roadmap" aside from the danger it represents. It reads like a whitepaper a corporate middle manager would pound out (using #ChatGPT probably) in an afternoon. Emily and Alex referred to Chuck Schumer as "an #Elon #Musk fanboy", and I think that's what this document reflects. This is The Boring Company of government policy proposals.
