A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

A Triple B Card and an Agapanthus Card

I seem to always do Twofers these days.  Too much influence from my good friend, Darnell (wish that influence extended to getting me to tidy my craft desk!).

First up for the Triple B "Birds, Butterflies, and Blooms", I thought it would be fun to use a stamp I have that has all three in the one stamp:

I stamped the image on mixed media cs and coloured with orange and yellow markers.  Then sponged around the edges with Distress Dried Marigold.  Added a sentiment and popped it up on fun foam.

And then for the Tic Tac Toe challenge (I chose the bottom horizontal line "gems or sequins, watercolour, floral"), the Penny Black Saturday Challenge (anything Penny Black goes), and the Beautiful Blossoms Floral Challenge (anything floral goes), I used one of my favourite flower stamps:

I put the stamp in my MISTI and inked it up with various watercolour markers, spritzing lightly with water, and stamping.  I wrapped a vellum strip (on which I'd stamped the sentiment) around the flower panel, and popped it up on fun foam on the card base. I added a few sequins for embellishment.

Winter Fun and Flowery Thanks

The Jingle Belles want to see "Winter Fun" this time.  I went with some animals have fun sledding in the snow:

Stamped on watercolour paper, watercoloured, trimmed with wonky stitched die, bordered in copper, and a bit of glue and glitter along the snowline.

The Penny Black Saturday Challenge is "Anything Goes".  I made a thank you card:

Using my MISTI, I inked the agapanthus up with various Distress markers, one colour at a time, spritzing after each colour and stamping, then going back to do the next colour.

I bordered it with a dark green, heat embossed the sentiment in white on the same dark green, and added a few iridescent gemstones that have the same dark blue and purple in them.

A Challenge Card and an Improved Card

I'm on birthday cards today, a brief break from Christmas cards.

Seize the Birthday wants "Flowers" as its topping.

And The Flower Challenge is "Use Your Favourite Flower".

I used a new flower stamp that I love because it is an agapanthus, definitely a favourite flower because it is blue!

I put the stamp in the MISTI and inked up with various mini Distress inkpads and markers, spritzing with water, and stamping onto watercolour paper until I was happy with the results.

I trimmed the panel with a stitched rectangle die, added a vertical sentiment, and bordered in navy blue cs.

It will go off to my cousin in England who grows the most amazing agapanthus!

On to a second birthday card.  I made this card a couple of years ago:

See this post here for the details.  I was not totally happy with it and never sent it but my friend who is an artist has her birthday coming up so I pulled it out again and revamped it a little bit:

I re-stamped the image and added some watercolour paints to the jar, the brushes, and the tips of the brushes.  Then fussy cut it and glued it on top of the original stamped image.  A simple fix but it made all the difference - I am so much happier with the card now!
