If you want to run OpenCCU on powerful standard hardware – e.g. an Intel NUC or another x86_64 mini PC or an ARM64 (aarch64) system with UEFI firmware –, you can install OpenCCU directly on an internal SSD/hard disk as follows. The two images Generic x86_64 and Generic aarch64 are available for this purpose.

Requirements

  • An x86_64 or ARM64 system with UEFI firmware. The images boot exclusively via UEFI (no legacy/BIOS boot); Secure Boot may have to be disabled in the UEFI setup.
  • An internal storage device (SSD/hard disk) with at least 8 GB to which OpenCCU is installed. All data on this storage device will be erased.
  • A temporary USB stick with at least 4 GB for the installation.
  • A supported USB or network-based radio module, e.g. HmIP-RFUSB, HB-RF-USB-2 (with RPI-RF-MOD) or HB-RF-ETH.
  • For the initial installation, a connected monitor to read the IP address (alternatively, look up the IP address in your router).

Note

The Generic aarch64 image is also used for virtual machines on ARM-based hypervisors, e.g. with Proxmox VE on ARM.

Installation

  1. Download the release Download the matching variant as an archive from Releases:

    • OpenCCU-X.XX.XX.YYYYMMDD-generic-x86_64.zip for x86_64 systems or
    • OpenCCU-X.XX.XX.YYYYMMDD-generic-aarch64.zip for ARM64 systems.
  2. Extract the ZIP Extract the *.zip so that an *.img file is available.

  3. Write the image to a USB stick Write the *.img to the temporary USB stick using an imaging tool such as the Raspberry Pi Imager (via "Use custom").

  4. Boot from the USB stick Plug the USB stick into the system, open the UEFI boot menu when switching on (depending on the manufacturer e.g. with F10, F12 or ESC) and select the USB stick.

  5. Switch to recovery mode After the first start, open the WebUI via the IP address shown on the monitor and switch to the recovery system under Settings → Control panel → CCU maintenance → Restart in recovery mode.

  6. Open the recovery WebUI & "Clone System" In the browser, open the recovery WebUI at the same IP address and select "Clone System".

  7. Select the target device All detected internal storage devices are available for selection in the drop-down. Select the target device to which the system from the USB stick should be cloned.

  8. Perform the copy process Start the cloning process and wait until it has completed and the success message appears.

  9. First start from the internal SSD/hard disk Shut down the system, remove the USB stick and start the system only with the target storage device.

  10. Open the WebUI & check the radio module OpenCCU should now boot up normally. The WebUI is accessible at http://openccu/ (or the IP assigned via DHCP). A connected USB radio module (e.g. HmIP-RFUSB or HB-RF-USB-2) should be detected directly; an HB-RF-ETH is integrated under Settings → Control panel → Advanced settings → IP address (HB-RF-ETH) (see HB-RF-ETH Connection). Afterwards, the first steps after installation help with the further setup.

Updates

Updates are performed via the update function of the WebUI or manually with the *-generic-x86_64.zip or *-generic-aarch64.zip archive.
