HOME IS WHERE MY HEART IS PROGRESS

When I began pinning and
basting I realized two things
Very quickly!!!!
No. 1:

This is too big for me to handle,,,,

Now What?????
Hmmmmm....
So with my πŸ’œin my mouth...

I peeled back the 2nd 3rd layer
of fabric above the bottom
and cut the backing--

So I will be working on this bottom third first...
and then when I join the overlaps from the middle 3rd
will cover the join....
It is all pinned and I've begun the invisible basting ......
so much easier to handle..
.
And, as you can see, it has changed
yet again in the process...!!!
Since this is all things I love
about and around my home,
I added mushrooms....

two of them cause I
REALLY like mushrooms ;)))
and a pretty decorated plate,
teacups, and buttons...
which you can see in the 1st shot above...

AND...
a little house Fairy πŸ’ƒ
See her here>>>>

Now, if she would just come and clean house for me!!!!
πŸ˜€πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜„

*****************
I also have learned--
  No. 2:
That using an old sheet
(one that is part poly!!)
is NOT a good
idea;
it is not stable and is
quite slippery!!!!
;((((((
So,
I will replace the
last two backings
with muslin....
And....
Thank goodness for phone
cameras as I have taken
shots to see the placement of the
sections...as I will be
unpinning and putting them on
the muslin....
You never stop learning.....

SUNDAY'S SCRAPPY STORM , et al

My dining room table is somewhere underneath all that stuff!!;)))

I have pulled out all the scraps and cut-offs I could find and
laid them all out here ...

Here's a view from the other side of my table
looking into my dining room,,

It's a good thing we are not expecting any company for dinner
anytime soon....hahaha...
.
It took me 2-3 days to gather everything and
try to put stuff in "like" piles for use...

The rectangle in the midst of all this bounty
is my new slow stitching project;
an "assemblage" of sorts--
I really don't know what to call it...

I have been watching "Railway Cottage Studio"
on youtube and here is a camera shot
of her work in progress:

It looks so very different from mine..but I  am using it as an
idea springboard to try to make my panel wall hanging..
.
She has collected a plethora of thrifted vintage table scarves,
French fabrics, and old needlepoint canvases...
among tons of other things which, of course, I don't have...

But you can see how this
idea "called my name:--))
collaging with fabric instead of papers....
Be still my πŸ’“!!!

I am giving this a try just for fun...
There is a small side wall between my tv
room and my dining room that needs
something....I am hoping
this can be it...;))

Below is just the very beginning of my
"base" layer which I've only laid out
on an old piece of bed sheet....

Nothing is pinned in place and I cannot
tell you how many times things have been moved about!!

Just auditioning everything before I pin it all in place
and then baste it all down...by hand...

{this picture is kind of "washed-out in color,
it is much more vibrant--
today is a gray day and the overhead light
changes the colors way too much!!}
It is:
Pretty much all cherished fabrics
trying to live together ....

And...
See that dark brown, old piece of velvet ?
It came as a remnant from my
 Grand-pere, who worked in
the Norwich Fabric Mill and used to bring
cut offs to my Grand-mere for her sewing..
It has been sitting in my stash FOREVER!!
I will need to iron it and cut only what I need
for that spot --hoping I'll still have a bit leftover....
.
I HAD to put that in  for sure...
πŸ’

I am calling this"
"Home is Where My Heart Is"

Here are a few houses that made it
through the culling process:

That ribbon , again washed out, is really a lighter greener green...
and

Midway on the right is this homestead...with that green
washed out also--my phone doesn't like greens, I guess!!

and, lastly,
This home, which I think reminds me of the residences
we saw on our Big Trip to Italy...
had to go in, right?

It sits,
amid a bevy of owls, my coffee dyed pear,
and the cheery sunflowers...
with a bit of Old Italian lace and
lovely old trees..up there in the
left hand corner...

A lot of the fabrics are culled from
various Cathe Holden prints
that I purchased a while back...
And I am using a total mixture
of old and new...

I will tell you this, it
takes courage to CUT INTO a lot of
these....πŸ‘€πŸ˜•πŸ˜”πŸ‘€ that I have
hoarded over the years...

{and actually I am ripping whenever I can
to get those frayed edges
that I really want in this one}

Right now, I keep on changing out
[and putting back in!!]
small bits and bobs ==

But, I do
have to make a decision
that it's ok as is
at some point....

For, of course,
I realize that
I can always add
on embellishments--
sort of crazy quilt style, with
fancy stitching and a few yo-yos and
hexagons scattered about...
I hope, when it is basted, I can roll it
up and take it wherever I want to
sit stitch on it...

But for today, it
  is resting.

But, what fun to use all these precious
memory-laden fabrics....;)))

Tonight's menu is:

BBQ'D Bourbon marinated steak tips,
home fries and salad....
and some Prosecco
beforehand...πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‰

and rainy afternoon--

FLOOR WORK FOR CHRISTMAS, et al

I have laid out my Christmas backing for "Willy-Nilly"...
;)))))))))
Phew--
Crawling around on the floor is not for
the faint of heart
(pitty-pat--pitty-pat )!!
πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“

All these fabrics are from my
Christmas box--which really has mostly
cut offs and  smaller pieces in it--
But. but, But......

 I was able to unearth
these lovelies.)))

You can just about make out all those
little 1/4 and 1/2 yds and scraps
in there.......

{The table runner the box is on
is the
Cathedral Window
 my  Mom made
all by hand
from Dad's old ties
 when we got together
with our sewing group
once a week---
We called ourselves:
"The Sew and Sews".
;)))))
It was such a fun
group of ladies...
Sadly, they have
all gone on
I do miss
those
days}
Moving on as we all must....

I split that old fashioned white scenic fabric in half and then
put my favorite pomegranite fabric down the center;

AND
Along the top and bottom I had this wide striped fabric scene to use,,,
I think this will work well...
Willy-Nilly will now become
"Holiday Willy-Nilly"

Who Knew????
****************************************
Well, that pooped me out for the rest of the day!
πŸ‘ΉπŸ‘ΊπŸ‘½πŸ‘ΎπŸ‘Ώ
This old bod doesn't like getting up and
down and roaming around on my
knees on the floor --Phew!!

So now, I can sew this together--
Looking forward to seeing this
come together...

MY LITTLE BASKET, et al

I have begun making 6" square little
woven blocks....

Each block will be one colorway....
and will be backed
with a very lightweight fabric
with simple running stitches to hold it
all together...

I took an online class with
Jude Hill years ago
and made a bed sized quilt using
this method --
[albeit with bigger squares....].

I also saw "K3N's Cloth Tales"
recent Youtube video
where she made a block like this
for her Week 39 prompt
in her fabric  Journal...

AND....
also my little basket
holds
 these little cuties:

I have some leftover
 Kaffee Fassett
Charm squares and
I am making little
puffy reversible squares,
{"Little Puffers"}

 They are simply whipped stitched
together --
back to back--
with leftover batting scraps
inside...
Then I sew a few holding
stitches on them...

As you can see above using
that red perle cotton thread...

I like to have a variety of hand
projects to switch back
and forth as I watch tv....
:)))))

****************************
AND....
I received this beautiful book today
in the mail
from Tom as part of my
Anniversary present:

I can't wait to read it all.....

I also await the 2nd part of this gift
to come which is:

A tin of DMC Mouline Special
embroidery flosses ....

He really knows what I like
πŸ’“πŸ’ƒπŸ’–

*********************
I have decided to make my "Willy Nilly"
flimsy into a Christmas tablecloth;
flannel lined and paired with
backing fabrics from my
old Christmas stash...

I am hoping to deplete that stash a lot....
I may use my machine tying at
block intersections to
tie it all together...
we shall see....

***********************
So, this is part of my fabric
ongoing WIPS
right now...

I hope you are enjoying this
Autumnal weather

TWO STARTS.....et al

I began hand quilting this morning--

"It's A Jungle Out There"
table runner....

The squares are made from
leftover jelly roll strips;
and the backing:

is a  fun Laurel Burch fabric......
[the fabric is much
more vivid than this photo!!]

This photo shows the LB fabric
across the top in truer colors.......

I am using this lovely thread
and a Milliner's needle
[my hands can no longer grasp
small quilting needles]
to hand quilt...
⇓⇓⇓
Such a luscious color that goes well
with both sides....

**************************
And...

TA-DAH....

I began my next little scroll--
I am calling it
"Summer Memories"

Using up those little cut-offs of favorite
blue and green fabrics that remind
me of Summertime....

Here is the start already
basted down....

The backing is a long piece
of old linen which needles
so beautifully...;)))

followed by this section and
this one
↡↡↡
The rest of the length is pinned in place
out of the way while I baste
it all down before adding my
enhancements
;)))

I've rolled up and pinned out of the way
the rest for ease of working...

All just scrappy pieces that
I could not bear to
throw away
πŸ˜‰πŸ˜

This project is just my fun,
relaxing,
"in my lap project"...;))))

So far, I have made four
little bobbin scrolls....
{shown below}

I have them displayed on my
buffet atop my cherished
Grand-mere's
hand crocheted doily....
:))))

***********************
Tonight will be an easy supper:

BBQ'd cheese burgers,
with Master Grill Chef,
 Tom, doing his magic ----
and
I have prepared us a
German Potato Salad
for the simple side dish...
Y U M !!πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜€

This afternoon we will be watching
F1 {Formula One car racing),
Practices One and Two...

P.S.I am also still trying to
re-organize my space
a little at a time
as my back allows...

PAPER CRAFTING PROMPTS PLAY

I pulled 3 prompts from my
ring holder this morning
to work in my cut
down and prepped
Seed Catalogue
Book pages......

"Fluffy, Vintage, Lamp"
were the 3 words I pulled
off my ring holder.....

[that little house is a wind
chime my Mom had near
her bedroom window]

Here is the dbl spread I
made using those themes:
I used these images from  various
magazine cuttings...
A collage of sorts...
;))))
And
I noted the 3 words on the
bottom righthand side...

I first prepped the pages with
white gesso to age
their look...

A bit of----
...early morning fun...
