Description/Review

T Minus None opens the set with an electro groove pulse that lays the rhythmic foundation for a variety of alien and melodic synths, plus a killer combination of spacey, Bluesy rocking and melodic jazzy guitar, all building up to a high intensity space rocker with delicious guitar from Gary “Moonboot” Masters. The Golden Rule is next and hits the ground running with a quick paced beat and a deep space Pink Floyd-ish atmospheric aura. I like the combination of drumming and frantic electronic pattern, and the music really hits its stride when Cyndee Lee Rule comes charging in with one of the most intense yet passionately rocking violin solos I’ve ever heard from her. Mellifluo is a lovely melodic piece that makes me feel like I’m at an extra-terrestrial Hawaiian luau. Clouded is a spaced out soundscapes excursion with tasty keys from Jez Creek. At over 12 minutes The Great Retsina Jam is the longest track of the set. I love the combination of classic Prog keys and majestic space synths. There are lots of fun embellishments as the music progresses, including a totally trippy Arabic flavored and slightly Bluesy stringed instrument, shooting star synths, cavernous drones, barren windswept planet effects and much more. This is symphonic Space-Prog at its very best. Pstrings is like a more groove rocking version of Steve’s Blue Lily Commission project and is led by another killer guitar solo, this time from Alex Pym. A steady rocking beat propels the music as Pym cranks out Bluesy licks while a banquet of alien synths swarm about. Finally, Another Time, Another Place is the sole song of the set, being a seductively melodic bit of Space-Pop with mind-massage vocals from Bridget Wishart.

Reversed Nature are a psychedelic jam rock band from Greece. Cosmic Eye presents their debut LP, characterized by a constant lazy flow of sounds, rhythms and voices. Never knowing where it will end, the band travel through long excursions falling somewhere between the drifty murk of space rock, krauty influenced jamming and the psychedelic aspect of some tribal post punk.
Opener "Into the Limbo" sets the mood perfectly, with it's tranced out, almost spacey sounding mesmer; that druggy, drowsy vibe surfacing throughout the rest of the track, sometimes morphing into a grim kosmische sound, other times blossoming into near Savage Republic's tribal post punk, but always shadowy and grey, and darkly dreamlike. Female vocals scream and wail in a P.I.L. ethno mood, then tenderly echo and whisper hauntingly meditative gloom-ragas, over a bed of roiling dark drones, and softly churning guitar reverb. Woozy melodies, bleed and blur into softly undulating sonic tapestries, sometimes tethered to a spare, skeletal rhythm, but often left to float weightless in a sprawl of drowsy shimmer. As the band builds forth, the sound eventually builds to a heavier psych-kraut drift, and then swifts into some rhythmic jam rock, all deep bass drones, pounding drumming, thick murky riffage, eventually launching into Earth's doomy introspective acid freak-out groove.
Musically, what Reversed Nature really display on this album is a contemporary woozy and warped psychedelic jam rock. It's a beautiful work that continually rewards -the more we listen. The perfect soundtrack to a moonlit desert beneath a field of stars.

Comprised of two long, exploratory pieces that should get boring pretty quick, but retain enough melodic structure to never feel like they're entering jam territory, "The Red Eyed Queen" is a pretty special piece of music. Obviously inspired by any number of krautrock, drone and space rock explorers of the past, this never fails to sound entirely modern, dragging the likes of Faust and Amon Duul kicking and screaming into the present.
In a way it's more Kosmische than anything else with plenty of trippy keyboard washes creating space and texture. The rhythm section and chugging guitars have a slow burning cresendo approach that at times sounds like some sort of unholy Hawkwind and Godspeed You Black Emperor alliance. It's probably this post-rock approach to structure that gives "The Red Eyed Queen" it's contemporary appeal, taking a quick look at the map before heading off, but still leaving plenty of choices as to which roads to take to get to their final destination. A red eyed approach would probably make this even better, but far be it from me to recommend such things.
Marvelous stuff then, best taken as a whole, but if you don't have the attention span to sit through the whole thing try the first five minutes or so of Part 2, which combines an ominous bass riff with spooky theremin style keyboards in some sort of approximation of a haunted house on the moon. Fjodor are an instrumental progressive space rock band from Croatia influenced by balkan & oriental roots music, krautrock, fusion, electronic space rock and the Floydian progressive take on classic psychedelia. "St. Anthony's Fire" is their 3rd album and can be most likely described as a conceptual 46 minutes piece of pure instrumental progressive rock, mixed with heavy psychedelic guitar riffs and space synthesizer vibes that colour the music with that particular jam groove of the late 80s free festival bands. The album starts in a melodic contemplative mood and then bass starts to build up and the synths really swirl and float in and out of the mix till the guitar bursts in an Ozric Tentacles meets early Eloy style. From then onwards, the piece is intensified with a spaced-out energy enrichened by jazz rock twists and psychedelic guitar freak-outs.

"St. Anthony's Fire" is a heavy record, but in the way Eloy's "Floating" is heavy, or in the way Vespero's "Subkraut: U-Boats Willkommen Hier" is heavy. It's that patient, smoke-clogged, spaced out vibe, that gradually builds to a crescendo of an erupting riffy, psychedelic stomp wrapped in grunge and gristle to just climax in an intense heavy yet precise spacerock maelstrom. It's like floating on a tsunami; the wave that crosses the bridge and breaks the boundaries.

A work of grandeur which finds the band digging even deeper into delirious and psychedelic threnodies, abysmal doom observances and mild invocations, offering deep, heavy sounds straight from the soul-realm woven through the geometries of the cosmos. A funerary procession danced by a mighty double-trio of two axes, two drumsets, and two insectoid drones.
Unlike the majority of doom metal music released nowadays, this is not pure Black Sabbath worship but a mournful ride through a room full of mirrors reflecting '60s acid psychedelic rock, shamanic cosmic trance, and creepy, slow doom. Everything here is totally steeped in a damp, pagan / mystical basement atmosphere full of intensely hypnagogic meditation visualizations. “Scarab” is the type of album that takes the listener on an esoteric journey of self-discovery. Opening track "Veil" is the sound of a Mercurial navigator galloping through epochs, a coarse voyage through unspeakable ancient rites. "Crone" is up next, revealing a shadowy affinity between minimal tribal-doom and elusive math-psych. Third track "Snake" is an 11-minute squirm of primordial suspension and reproach with sonorous and radiant vocalizations, swallowed by the caliginous doom wreckage of "Clear Light of the Unborn" which takes this masterpiece to its' end in a chariot of headless horses heaving a monolithic obsidian temple across the dense, lightless extremes of space.

"The Lost Art of Twilight" may be described as conceptual, mostly instrumental album and is ontological sequel of firstborn "...Against Human Race". However, the songs are conceptual fragments of a story, telling a tale of destruction and reinvention of the world we knew.
Imaginary and energy from George Sterling's nightmarish poetry or celestial fiction of Howard P. Lovecraft, Thomas Ligotti and Clark Ashton Smith, endless “pencil and paper” RPG wanderings (like Changeling: The Dreaming and Warhammer) with ritualistic magical drops on blotter canvases, preceded the openings of some portals.
At the end of it all, it is blind men's kaleidoscopic journey through various musical forms, a living mutant swarming aural spaces at the dawn of XXI century... and you can hear its heartbeat, next to you now.

Sometimes wandering in silently dark semi-acoustic mysteries of the cosmos, and in the next moment orbiting to walls of sound with outer space echoes and alien atmospheres. The Cosmic Dead know how to ride the edge of groove and gently cut back to spacey atmospherics to superb effect. The record explodes their sound in all directions; spacier, trippier, headier and far more expansive than ever.
Revivalists have attempted to capture and modernize the sound, and retro enthusiasts have grappled in authenticity, but The Cosmic Dead are beyond: they are that sound! It's music floating so naturally that immediately puts the listener into a state where time seems to disappear.
