Although guitarist Stefan Seegers contributes a fair bit of deathly grunting throughout the album, the band’s outlook is generally on the melodic side; Second track This House manages to combine muscle and melody quite nicely, with all three guitarists playing with sufficient restraint in the service of the song. Things might get a little ‘over beefy’, if you follow my drift, with eighteen strings ploughing away at the same time, but never do you walk away from a song feeling battered by overkill. And that’s a good sign.

To start their new album, the band has opted for an instrumental track called 'Templum Creationis', a calling card is hereby granted and the right tone is immediately deployed. Being a fan of outstanding guitar chops myself for decades, the band's three axemen knows how to touch me right away. In fact, each one in the Dyscordia ranks are so damn well skilled, total satisfaction is on my side ! Next song 'Harlequin's Grief' can be regarded as first full song and believe me on my word, it's a very sophisticated-skill loaded one. Listening to it, they fully realize the term 'Progressive Metal' with bravura. A mighty strong composition starring six musicians in utmost concentration while performing their duties. The combination of Piet Overstijn's strong/clean vocal lines and Stefan Segers' death grunts add value to the overall package... it contagiously works out as it should be. This second, full technical and melodic track scores high marks on all fronts !

Listening to “Twin Symbiosis” is a cornucopia for the ears, as I can pick up pieces and nuances and drawn influences from across the spectrum of heavy music: Opeth, Gamma Ray, Rush, Linkin Park, Coheed & Cambria, Magellan, Epica, and so many more. Throughout the cavern of dissonance, a sturdy tightrope of melody is strung between beginning and end. In stark difference to a band like Watchtower, where the chaos is the start point, Dyscordia inverts the process. The music always starts with melody, and the band allows it to teeter to and fro, but never fails to steer it straight amidst the free-for-all. With three vocalists, the styles rage from Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray) to Mark Jansen (Epica) to Trent Gardner (Magellan) to Claudio Sanchez (Coheed & Cambria), so at times it feels like an all-star project.
