Mostly Iris

Almost every day, a different iris opens!
Funny, but I don't remember these from other years,
and certainly can't remember where they came from--
who their donors were.

There is one more variety yet to open.
I can hardly wait to see if it is a different one from these.
2020 will certainly go down as the year of the Iris here in our Indiana home.

Yellow

Though not my favorite color of iris,
as I told one friend,
"Beggars can't be choosers!"
I was gifted with these and must admit
they are cheerful!

beauty and the beast

While the photos of our iris don't require commentary,
I'll tell you that I'm no expert when it comes to pruning!
The "after photo" below shows the unidentified bush after its haircut.
It also is instructive as it shows several errant branches that remain.
It was a beautiful day for yard work!
My husband mowed the lawn and
also finished the staining of our back deck...

June 4

Things were looking a little shaggy here....
so I went out and did some quick whacking, trying to beat the rain.
Several clumps of iris were pruned...
as was this wild raspberry (?) bush which had rambled quite long enough!

While carrying piles of plant debris across the yard,
I passed some of our first roses and paused to photograph them
when I returned with empty arms.

Stepping toward the back patio steps,
I admired the delicate look of this unidentified bush-trimmed-tree-like.
And then came the rain!

Slow and Steady

So far, our forays into our yard and garden have been limited

 due to medical issues.
 Today however, weather was near-perfect,
and a friend came with shovel and empty containers
to divide several of our perennials for planting in her yard.
It was the perfect excuse to get out and place a few pieces
of yard art!
 It felt SO good!
And while I was at it, I pulled quite a few weeds.
The piles will dry, and I'll pick them up to discard tomorrow.
Slow and steady wins the race!
And how about these iris?!?

Irises or Irides

I finally checked out the proper plural forms
 of this beautiful flower.
I may have one more variety remaining to bloom
 in our flower beds.
 Such a grand, showy flower--
returning so much pleasure for so little work.
