Mid-August Stroll

After the intense and horrible day of news on Saturday,
I needed a stroll around our yard before going to bed.

 It helped somehow.

Venturing No Further Than...

our back porch to try to capture the colors
that are so beautiful to the eye...
Later this morning, we'll travel a few miles to visit my parents.
Along the way--fields of corn and beans in various stages of harvest...
pumpkin stands, and trees.
Gloriously colored trees, taking my breath away with their beauty.

April Promises

April is a promise that May is bound to keep.  Hal Borland
My husband...walking along our front sidewalk exactly one week from the time
he was being prepped for quadruple bypass surgery!
Our niece mowed the yard for the second time last night.
Our flower beds are quite neglected...
but ONE of these days!

Waiting in the Wings....Part II

 What a beautiful morning!
I ventured out into the back yard for the first time
since my fall and hip replacement surgery on March 16th.
I was overwhelmed with the beautiful sights of spring
along with the accompanying work required to get things in shape!
My husband will be doing double duty, I'm afraid.
So much trimming, cleanup, and setting up to do!

I'm sure I'll spend several hours today trying to figure out
how I can help without hindering my healing process.

and at home....surprises

While I was taking the Home and Garden tour (see previous post),
surprises were forming EVERYwhere in our flower beds!
No matter how many years I've enjoyed this phenomena,
it always catches me by, well....
 SURPRISE!

Gathering

I did a bit of gathering before the "hot heat" (TV Weatherman's term)
gets overpowering today...

Technically, it was too late to gather the lavender.
It had dried on the plant.
Still there was a bit of fragrance to it...

Touched by an Avalanche...

...an "avalanche" of rain, that is.
If our rain gauge is accurate, a 4"-5" AVALANCHE!
On my way to our backyard cabin, I couldn't resist photographing some of the
 aftermath of the "avalanche".

A siren went off in our small town -- around midnight, I think.
It was a pretty weak one.  I went downstairs to get more information.
There was a tornado watch posted for a large portion of NE Indiana until 6:00 this morning.
I went back to bed and "slept" quite fitfully.
There were no more sirens.

With more rain in the forecast,
I see frequent lawn-mowing and weed-pulling in our future!

Our Backyard Christmas Cabin

The sun was already setting when I went out to get this picture this afternoon...
still you can get the gist of our backyard Christmas cabin.
If you'd like a peek inside, click HERE.
Come on!  I think you'll be surprised.
And Merry Christmas!
