Autumn Kittie

And so the spring is gone, and the summer...my favourite season just behind the corner. I have been busy with work but also with cats - in all, three kittens found in terrible state, nurtured back to health and adopted, which is more than I could ever hope for, stuck on this island. The rest need to be neutered, and oh how I wish I could get more adopted - but they are either too old, too feral or too black...Anyhoo, here is a handsome tomcat from Finland :)

Wine Country, Bavaria

This could have been aptly posted more than a month ago, when new wine was being tested and tried..! Still, being one of my favourite liquids of life, wine is pretty much always a subject to talk about, no? :)
As the sender wrote: in any town in Lower Franconia you can find a wine store, purchase a glass of local wine and enjoy sipping on it while overlooking the river Main. Now doesn't that just sound marvellous? Vielen Dank Svenja :)

Autumn In Minnesota

Come the favourite season of the year...Though the autumn is not the same everywhere, and when you are not allowed to go further that 5km away from your home (lockdown) you start to imagine that autumn is simply more autumny anywhere but here..! But I just have to move my lazy a** and go for a walk really lol

Autumn In Ontario

The autumn is in full swing by now but here where I live and work we are surrounded with coniferous trees, so we don't get to see the greatest autumn feature of all - the colour changes. Instead, we are 'trapped' on the island because of the extreme SE winds, with 65-knot gusts as we speak. Its a gamble to walk outside, with all the objects flying around! So instead let's enjoy this peaceful autumn view from Canada :) Thank you Katie :)

Autumn In Québec

After a long hot summer the autumn is finally here, literally arrived to the date...Where I live it sadly doesn't display all these wonderful colours, but instead a strong chilly wind is the main 'culprit'. Canada seems awesome during this time of year. Still on to-visit list...
On a side-note: don't you just 'love' it when there are such great stamps on the postcard, but no proper cancellation? Instead crossed out with a black marker...groar.

Autumn Doe

I hardly even blinked and two weeks since my last post have already passed...after a long period of sweltering heat today has finally brought some fresh air over the Croatian coast, and reminded me of just how much I long for the autumn to arrive - appropriately here is a lovely card from my autumn collection :) Thanks to Waka from Japan :)

Kiyomizu-dera In Autumn, Japan

Kiyomizu-dera is an independent buddhist temple in eastern Kyoto, a part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto UNESCO whs. The temple was founded in 788, and its present buildings were constructed in 1633 - there is not a single nail used in the entire structure. It was one of 21 finalists for the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.

I notice with perplexity that it has been over three years now that I have posted about Japan. Today I've chosen this card because of the Sunday Stamps theme: letter 'i'. Many Japanese stamps could be posted in relation as many are fabulous illustrations - but more specifically the top stamp was issued for the 61st Inter-Parliamentary Conference which was held in Tokyo in 1974 (I have to admit I'd never guess this stamp is that old). I don't really follow but the most prominent of the world's political issues, maybe I have heard of IPU (Inter-Parliamentary Union) before but I certainly didn't make a note of it. IPU was founded in 1889 and was the first permanent forum for political multilateral negotiations.
I love the fact that the stamp matches the view's autumn colours (thank you Yuko), as does one of the cancellations (I do wonder why there are two). The artwork is Passion (1934) by Kawabata Ryushi. More interesting (!) ideas for the letter 'i' hide behind the link for Sunday Stamps :)

Sugar Shack In Québec, Canada

As the autumn approaches (33 hours to go..!) I am already excited about its awesome colours - sadly not around here, but will hopefully still have time to witness them once the job for the season is over and I can travel to continental parts.

As a preview - a shugar shack immersed in autumn splendour. The Sugar Shacks are where the sap of the maple tree is boiled and made into maple syrup.  Most Sugar Shacks in Quebec are only open during sugaring off season – which is normally the spring.  Many families traditionally spend their Easter dinner together at a Sugar Shack, eating traditional Quebec food and lots of maple sugar. Yum! Thanks Isabelle :)

UNESCO - Old Rauma, Finland

Situated on the Gulf of Botnia, Rauma is one of the oldest harbours in Finland. Built around a Franciscan monastery, where the mid-15th-century Holy Cross Church still stands, it is an outstanding example of an old Nordic city constructed in wood. Although ravaged by fire in the late 17th century, it has preserved its ancient vernacular architectural heritage.

When I turned the postcard around and saw this stamp I believe I have made some weird sound showing just how happy I am :) I LOVE autumn colours. This stamp represents apple harvest and was issued in 2013 in a set of 5 titled Signs Of Autumn. I have found a pic of the whole sheet of FDC on ebay, me wanti! Kiitos Elina :)
Theme this week on Viridian's Sunday Stamps is country life/harvest/autumn :)

UNESCO - Canal Du Midi, France

Another autumn card, love the warm colours of the foliage :) The Canal du Midi is a 241 km long canal in Southern France -  it was considered at the time to be one of the greatest construction works of the 17th century.
The canal connects the Garonne River to the Étang de Thau on the Mediterranean and along with the 193 km (120 mi) long Canal de Garonne forms the Canal des Deux Mers joining the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.
Merci Sébastien :)

Kingfisher On A Maple Tree, Japan

I have received quite a few Japanese postcards over the winter, and this is one of them :) I just love the colours of the autumn leaves, the composition...and the matching stamp. Thanks so much Osumi :))
