New River Gorge Bridge near Fayetteville, West Virginia (United States)

All my memories, gather round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong,
West Virginia,
Mountain mamma, take me home
Country roads

Bear Mountain Bridge over the Hudson River between Wortchester and Rockland counties, New York (United States)

O RIVER! gently as a wayward child
I saw thee mid the moonlight hills at rest;
Capricious thing, with thine own beauty wild,
How didst thou still the throbbings of thy breast!
Rude headlands were about thee, stooping round,
As if amid the hills to hold thy stay;
But thou didst hear the far-off ocean sound
Inviting thee from hill and vale away,
To mingle thy deep waters with its own;
And, at that voice, thy steps did onward glide,
Onward from echoing hill and valley lone.
Like thine, oh, be my course--nor turned aside,
While listening to the soundings of a land,
That like the ocean call invites me to its strand.

Harbor Bridge over the port of Corpus Christi in Texas (United States)

I worked the rigs from three to midnight
On the Corpus Christi Bay
I'd get off and drink till daylight
Sleep the morning right away
I had a plan to take some wages
Leave the rigs behind for good
But that life it is contagious
And it gets down in your blood

Brooklyn Bridge between Brooklyn and Manhattan in New York (United States)

But see! the broadening river deeper flows,
Its tribute floods intent to reach the sea,
While, from the west, the fading sunlight throws
Its softening hues on stream, and field, and tree;
All silent nature bathing, wondrously,
In charms that soothe the heart with sweet desires,
And thoughts of friends we ne'er again may see,
Till lo! ahead, Manhattan's bristling spires,
Above her thousand roofs red with day's dying fires.

''Though it is not the center of the world, it is a very beautiful environment for a bridge, with volcanic mountains and dense forests. It will be not only a passage but a place to sit and observe the water.''

Rainbow Bridge across the Niagara River between the states of Ontario (Canada) and New York (United States)

Heno, the Thundergod lived in a huge grotto behind the Great Fall (Horseshoe). He protected people along the River from a huge serpent which lived in the Gorge. One encounter with the serpent was so tremendous that the middle of the Great Fall was knocked down, thus creating the horsehoe shaped crestline of the now Horseshoe Falls.

Manhattan Bridge over the East River in New York City (United States)

“Movement was the essence of Manhattan. It had always been so, and now its sense of flow, energy, openness, elasticity as Charles Dickens had called it, was headier than ever. Half the city’s skill and aspirations seemed to go into the propagation of motion.”

Fred Hartman Bridge or Baytown Bridge over the Houston Ship Channel between Baytown and La Porte, Texas (United States)

Home is where I'm goin'
No matter how long it takes
And I've been livin' high 'n' free, love
It's time for me to try another way

I think I'll send her a postcard

So she can meet my plane
Well I don't know what I'll say to her
I've caused her so much pain

Houston, I'm-a comin' to see you

Houston, has it really been that lo-hong
I know I've been away
But I'm just callin' to tell you I'm leavin' today

Bridge crossing one of the canals in Venice Canals Walkaway, Los Angeles, California (United States)

You can look all over this great big world
You can look down every street
In every bookstore, on every dance floor
At every girl you meet
You can drive out to California
And chase down all of your dreams
I'm sure you'll find someone beautiful
But you'll never, you'll never find me

Bear Mountain Bridge over the Hudson River between Wortchester and Rockland counties, New York (United States)

He saw at a distance the lordly Hudson, far, far below him, moving on its silent but majestic course, with the reflection of a purple cloud, or the sail of a lagging bark, here and there sleeping on its glassy bosom, and at last losing itself in the blue highlands.

Now in the fading woods, the Autumn blast
Chants its old hymn--a melancholy sound!
And look! the yellow leaves are dropping fast,
And earth looks bleak and desolate around.
