JJ Spread; Lungs in SF

I have not worked in my Junk Journal in a long time and every time I crack it open, I wonder, why not?!

I love all the messy goodness already inside and the fact that I am contributing to more inky/painty/scrappy goodness is a bonus.

December was nuts and we spent more than half of it at the hospital. I felt the need to document this time in my artsy Junk Journal.

As always, the first thing I did was open up the JJ to find a two page unfinished spread that I could use for it. Once I found the pages, I applied white gesso to them to give me a "blank" space to start. From there I drew a pair of lungs with a black Stabilo pencil (which reacts with water), colored the inside and outside of the lungs with an assortment of Gelato sticks; did some random stamping and mark making to get here.

Check out the YouTube process video below:

Now, the problem with stopping and starting the video camera is I often think I'm starting but often stopping, etc. That's exactly what happened when I was filming this. UGH! Unfortunately, I didn't film while I was doing all the mark making and coloring.

One of the pulmonary doctor's had a logo on his vest that had the SF skyline inside a pair of lungs. I wanted to emulate it in this spread. I found the silhouette skyline of SF online and did my best to copy it across the lungs. I think I did a great job.

I was debating about the small photo of the Golden Gate Bridge, but decided to use it since we could see it out the window on the ICU floor.

If you like this type of post, stay tuned because I am going to be doing more and more of messy play in 2023! My six signature Junk Journal is so close to being finished that I have decided this is an achievable goal - finish this journal so I can create another one!

If you haven't already, while you're in YouTube, check out my Junk Journal playlist. There are many flip throughs and tutorials that I know you'll enjoy.

Piece Craft Love YouTube Hop

I’ve never done this before but I decided to join a YouTube hop to celebrate Piece Craft Love’s celebration of 500 YouTube subscribers.

We were given a list of five items to create a layout with. You know I don’t usually do mixed media on my scrapbook layouts so this was a stretch for me but I wanted to continue my Messy May series so this challenge fit.

The Pick Five items for the hop were: texture paste, stencil, coffee, squirrel and aqua or some kind of blue. I may have cheated a little on the coffee since I used a Dark Roast splatter, but I just couldn't figure out how to incorporate coffee into this page!

Check out my process in the video and then check out the remaining hoppers by clicking the links here or in the information box in YouTube.

Here is the list of the AMAZING makers who are joining this hop:
Anna – Piece Craft Love
Kimberly – I’d Rather Be Scrapbooking

Close Ups of the clusters:

Now, if I'm being honest, I probably won't continue to use mixed media in my scrapbooking, but it was fun for this hop.

Details:
Simple Stories Going Places embellishments & sticker sheet
Squirrel stamps from Bloom Art Stamps (Tree w/Fruit)
Papers: Paper Studios; Travel Icons and Carta Bella Region Strips - Are We There Yet?
WR Memory Keepers Travel Light stickers
Stampin Up! Bermuda Bay ink refill
Transparent Texture Paste by Ranger

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that there is a GIVEAWAY! Piece Craft Love is an online scrapbook and crafting store SO once you've watched these videos, hop over and drop a COMMENT on the Piece Craft Love channel video to be entered to win a $25 Gift Certificate to the shop! (Open WORLDWIDE, shipping minimums apply)

Color Hue Challenge #39; Purple/Green Shaker Card

I attended a fun stamping Zoom and stamped along with the instructor. I think I should have waited until after the class so I would have thought more about placement, etc. I don't hate the card, I just don't like it. BUT...I am glad I attended since she had some great tips!

I used purple and green for the Color Hue challenge at Color Hue challenge blog. You guessed it...the color challenge is purple & green.

Wow! There are great projects from the DT as well as linked projects. Check it out!

Making a Masterboard (Gel Print)

I created a Youtube process video showing how I took one of my gel prints and added some stamping and other mediums to it to create a masterboard. What's a masterboard? My definition of a masterboard is this: a piece of paper that is made to cut up and use on other projects. In my case, cards mostly.

Check out the video here:

Here's a better look at the cards that were created with the masterboard.

The last card is a different kind of shaker card. It was hard to photograph without glare, but I love it so much! I stamped the plastic using an archival ink and let it dry overnight just to be on the safe side. I may need to do a video on this. It was easy, just a little different.

Anyhow, what do you think? I love this masterboard and the projects I was able to make from it. Be sure to check out the video and give me a thumbs up. Don't forget to hit the subscribe button for more of my videos!

Card Goal Update; Weeks 22 - 28 & TGIF; Thankful Friday #137

My card box is thinning out! I donated 26 cards to Scrapbook.com on their cards for kindness drive. (If you're interested in contributing to this drive, check out my earlier post HERE.) That helped a lot, but I'm still making cards and sending them out.  Woo Hoo!

I've been gathering cards based on the occasions that I prepare for and put them aside to send out weekly. By the end of the time period, I not only send out the predesignated cards, but also other cards as reasons come up. So for Set 3, I gathered the following cards:

Week 22: RAK to Bianca; Get Well to a coworker
Week 23: Stacey's Birthday; DS2 Graduation; Thank You
Week 24: Father's Day and Thinking of You to a friend (she had surgery)
Week 25: Oops! Skipped this week by accident
Week 26: Just Because to my friend Katie and birthday card to a friend's son
Week 27: Thank You card for a friend
Week 28: Nephew Marcus' Birthday

And additional cards that I sent during this timeframe:
My granddaughter made this card with a little help from the Circuit. To be fair, I did not send it, she did, but I thought it was worth adding to the weekly card list! (Her cousin, my niece broke her leg hence the crutches.)
This was made using the Elements 1
stamp set from Bloom Art
This was on a YouTube Video

If you are interested in receiving a handmade card from me, let me know.

This is also my TGIF; Thankful Friday post. This week I'm thankful that I'm sending these cards out. It's been great hearing from people that have been blessed by handmade cards. I'm having a lot of fun with this! Many are being encouraged to start sending their own cards (and many have purchased cards from me). Although selling them was not my intention, but hey...a little bit of green never hurt anyone.

Summer Reading Marathon 2020 Kick Off & GIVEAWAY

Summer Reading Marathon is here! My daughter & I have participated in this marathon for 21 years. We started when she was six & she'll be 27 this August. It's a contest we have with each other to see who can read the most books within the summer months.

For the past few years, I've wanted to make bookmarks and leave them in books at the library as a RAK. Yeah, it sounds like a great idea, but I still haven't done it.

This year, I decided to do something different. I'm having a GIVEAWAY. Leave a comment with a book recommendation by June 15th and I'll randomly draw a name. The winner will receive a handmade bookmark from me. I'm going to post this GIVEAWAY on my IG and FB accounts as well. Leave a different book recommendation on either of those platforms for additional entries.

Here are a few that I made last night...aren't they great! They are in a plastic sleeve with a tassel

Sorry for all the glare...these are the backsides:

Here they are step by step:
I cut strips from a paper pad cover.
I added white gesso on all of them before adding different hues of teal/aqua/turquoise acrylic paint.
Then I used an assortment of sprays.

Once that dried, I stamped randomly all over with a couple of different stamps.
 Added pink acrylic paint.
 Added script stamp.
Inked the edges with black archival ink.
More stamping but this time with white ink.
I should have waited for the middle one to dry before adding a sealer, but...
Added a clear sealer and then stamped a sentiment on each one.
Since the middle one smudged, I added some black ink spray (it's now the first one). I don't like it as much as the others, but it's still pretty.

Close up of the brighter two:

All the stamps with the exception of the vine stamped in white are from Rubber Paws
The vine stamps is from Bloom Art Stamps
The plastic sleeves & tassels were also gifted from Rubber Paws

Teal assortment acrylic paints are from my stash
Pink from FSJ & the color sprays
Gold spray is Heidi Swapp
