She's lost it

Jenna lost her first tooth this morning. She said she needed to go to the bathroom, and when she came out she had her tooth in hand. She was pretty excited. She and Britton are only 18 months apart and Britton has lost 8 teeth and has 6 permanent teeth and she hadn't even lost her first. We knew it was coming because her permanent tooth had already grown in behind her baby tooth. She is excited for her first visit from the tooth fairy (even though our family's tooth fairy is pretty stingy).

We had some quality girl bonding time this morning before Jenna went to Kindergarten. This was the fingernail painting portion of the day. The girls were great about not moving their hands off the paper until their nails were completely dry.

I love to watch Jenna and Korinne playing together in the mornings while Britton is at school. It's obvious Korinne wants to be just like Jenna and Jenna is always very willing to help Korinne with everything. They have their spats when Korinne gets really stubborn and refuses to share, but then they are fine again. More often than not they are in dress ups. It's their favorite thing to play.

Ahhh

I didn't realize how much I was going to love the views of CV from our house. This picture doesn't do it justice. I love being able to look outside at any minute during the day and see the valley. We didn't see our first sunset here until after we were moved in, now it is definitely my favorite time of the day.
Ok, let me get this out of the way. Driving in a small town kind of stresses me out. "What?", you say. Let me explain. I've spent the last 8 + years of my living driving in Atlanta, and Salt Lake City. Every intersection that is not in a neighborhood pretty much has a stoplight and yes, there are always cars going the other way. Here in P there aren't stoplights at any of the intersections and each one has its own thing--one is a 4 way stop, the next is only a 2 way, the next has one direction yielding to the other, the next is a 2 way going the other way. . . no rhyme, no reason. Enter city driver. Each intersection I come upon leaves me frantically looking at who has a stop or yield sign and if I have the right of way surely there is someone coming the other direction and are they going to know to stop?! (there never is someone going the other direction which still seems weird to me) Ever since last April when I was visiting CV and failed to yield correctly at one such intersection I have been panicked. (Nothing happened, but still. . .) Turning left on Redwood Rd during rush hour? No problem. But, driving through 5 empty intersections in P and my heart rate is up. Let's hope this doesn't last.
The kids have adjusted really well to their new school. In our neighborhood they ride the bus and Jenna loves the novelty of it all. It is nice to have them both in the same school. I'm happy with both of their teachers and I think the transition has gone well.
Tonight I went out front to check on the kids and found Korinne playing on the front step with her trusty "puter" and cell phone. It doesn't even work, that is what is so funny. We don't have a yard right now so I guess I'm just happy that she chose something besides rolling around in the dirt (which she has been known to do, by the way.)

We made it

A big THANK YOU to all of the many who turned out to help us move. We really appreciate it! Now that we are in our new house my brain is on "organizational overload." Seriously, I think I need to lay down for a minute and let my brain rest. My sister Heather would be proud, I've been a labeling fool!

Place for the kids to keep their school papers? check
Designated spot for the wooden spoons and can opener? check
Jenna's socks and tights divided and organized? check
Music CD's organized and labeled? check
My sanity? lost, but soon to be found. . . I hope.

Yesterday I was trying to get the kids up early and ready for church and every 2 seconds I thought of something I needed that wasn't unpacked yet. I was so flustered after finding a slip to go under my skirt and then "losing" it while I was searching for some nylons I finally just thought to myself, "Fine, I'll just have to not wear a slip today! Double Grrr" only to realize when I started putting on my nylons that I had put the slip on when I found it, which is why I couldn't find it again. I think you are getting the point here. Saturday night it took us 20 min. to find a package of Korinne's diapers that were literally sitting on the table in front of our faces. We looked in every nook and cranny before seeing the obvious. Ahh, the joys of moving.

On another note, the kids participated in the Primary Program with the new ward yesterday and did such a good job! The primary is MUCH larger in this ward, but we made sure they had their parts ready and they were able to jump right in. I kind of felt like I was in Stake Conference, but really our ward is just a LOT bigger. We were in the back of the gym on folding chairs. I think they are going to be splitting the ward again in the spring.

I love love love my house, but don't worry I still miss my friends.

School Lunch

Britton is the V.I.P student in his class this week. I received a note that said the following, "Britton would like to invite you to have lunch with the first grade any day that is convenient for you. Lunch will be served at 11:45. You may bring a lunch or purchase a lunch for $ 1.60. Exact change is required." Ok, I can do that. So today I showed up at exactly 11:45 and got to the lunch room right as Britton's class was going into the lunchroom. Britton was the first in line (just like always) and was already well on his way to getting his lunch. I tried to get his attention to let him know I was there--no response, so I quickly got my lunch and as I approached the lunch lady taking money I got out my EXACT change of $1.60 just as she looked at me and said "That will be $2.50" What?!? I followed instructions and brought exactly $1.60! I didn't have my purse or anything so I tried to plead my case, "But the teacher's note told me to bring exactly $ 1.60" but she was having none of it. "That's breakfast, lunch is $ 2.50 for adults" Sensing my obvious discomfort she finally relented and told me I could bring an additional $1.00 tomorrow. Totally embarrassing.

I think Britton must have been the first V.I.P for the school year in his class because when I sat down across from him in the lunch room his classmates just kind of looked at me and seemed a bit confused. (My small talk didn't go over so well). Britton didn't eat very much of his lunch and what he did eat took him all of 5 minutes. I hadn't even gotten to the stale tortilla chips in the "taco salad" before Britton got up and started taking his tray back to the kitchen on his way out to play. He was determined not to miss a moment of his recess and didn't seem the least bit influenced by my special appearance during 1st grade lunch. I spent the next 10 min. in an awkward silence surrounded by 6 and 7 year olds who were still confused as to why I was there in the first place.

To top off the experience I managed to lock my keys in the car and had to wait for Adam to rescue me. Sure made for an interesting afternoon.

Shhh, I'm working!

Korinne likes to work just like Dad. She has her quality pink sleeping beauty cell phone (totally broken, of course) and her computer (also non-working) and she carries them around with her. This is the conversation we had yesterday:

Me "Korinne, you're stinky, let's change your diaper"
Korinne, "I can't. I'm working."
Me "We'll do it really fast."
Korinne, "Mom, I'm working on my puter. I can't!"

She really likes to "work" next to Adam during office hours. They make quite a pair.

Moving Forward

The people buying our house closed on the house they were selling last Friday, so things are looking good for a trouble free closing on this house next Monday. We will be loading our truck on Thursday the 18th at 6 p.m. (Just throwing out a time in case any of you locals want to join the party) and then we will unload the truck at our new house on Friday, the 19th at 6 p.m. (It will be a party, I KNOW you want to come!) The kids will be able to finish out the week of school and then start at their new school the next Monday morning.

This is what our garage is looking like these days:

Looks like fun, doesn't it? It has been awhile since I've moved. I'm kind of out of practice. Growing up I used to move every other year, at least. I've lived in this house longer than I've lived anywhere since I was 13 years old. Crazy.

Korinne has all of the sudden developed an opinion about clothes. She doesn't really know what she likes, she only knows that she doesn't like anything that I pick out for her to wear. This is code for--she just wants to have a little fun at my expense every single day. She laughs. Me? Not so much. I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again, but she is such a character!

Jenna's Second 1st Day of School

Kindergarten starts a week after all of the other grades around these parts. Last year Britton started Kindergarten on the Tuesday after Labor Day exactly one week after everyone else. Naturally that would mean that Jenna would start the Tuesday after Labor Day, right? Wrong. Unfortunately I didn't get the memo. So, yesterday Jenna picked out her most favorite outfit and had her special lunch before school (she is in the P.M. class) and Adam, Korinne and I walked her to the brand new school everyone giddy with anticipation. With camera in hand we were just turning the corner to the Kindergarten entrance area and I ran into one of my friends leaving the school with her small kids. She took one look at us with Jenna in her backpack and had that, "what are you doing here?" look. Not good. Apparently this year Kindergarten was scheduled to start on the Wednesday after Labor Day. Information that would have been useful yesterday! (Think Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer") I had it on my calendar months ago and never bothered to really look. At the back to school night they just kept saying, "When Kindergarten starts next week you will need to blah, blah, blah" Again, no specific date mentioned. I can definitely see how I did it, but I still feel a bit silly for actually doing it.

Here was Jenna on what we thought would be her 1st day of school:

She was so cute this morning when she came into our room. She said, "Today is my second 1st day of school!" And here she was ready to go. . . again.

We recreated the day for her and she had a great time. Her teacher is Mrs. Reese for the next few weeks and Jenna really likes her.

Korinne got to ride on Dad's shoulders for our walk home from the school. I hope she enjoys her one-on-one time with us for the next 3 years. (Somehow I think she will be just fine.)
