Races, Parades and More

On Wednesday Britton's team had a region meet in Ogden.

Pre race huddle.

Seven teams were in attendance.  Not all of Ridgeline was there however, as their top boys and girls were scheduled to race in Boise in a few days and didn't participate.

Here is the "money shot" of Britton sprinting to the finish line. He and his best friend since the 5th grade, Collin, are very evenly matched and run most races side by side.  So far Britton has been able to out sprint Collin at the end of every race, but Collin is getting better and better.  I think having a little friendly competition will definitely help both of them be better runners.

It rained a lot last week, so much so that Britton's Saturday soccer game was canceled.  Not because of the rain, but because the field was flooded out.  We decided to brave the cold and go to the University Homecoming Parade.  It really is the best parade in the valley, but we miss it a lot due to fall soccer.

Oh my goodness, everyone threw out a lot of stuff.  Here is Jenna with a bag of cheese curds. You know, the typical parade offering.

We also got cheering pom poms, mini-footballs, shampoo and conditioner samples from a spa, Frisbees, full size granola bars, protein shake single servings, frozen otter pops, and a TON of candy including mini chocolate candy bars and other Halloween packaged candy.  One of the nice things about a cooler weather parade is you can throw out chocolate and it won't melt!

This week we attended the funeral of our beloved home teacher, Brother Hale.  He passed away at his home last Wednesday morning during a spectacular thunder storm.  His wife said that just after he died there was a huge boom of thunder and she felt like he was being welcomed to his heavenly home. As the Bishop Adam conducted and spoke at the funeral.  Not long before he died Adam and I were able to visit him and say our goodbyes. It was a tender visit even though he wasn't able to speak very much at the end. He will definitely be missed.

Homecoming

It was a busy week, but not a lot of pictures were taken.  We did a lot of juggling with multiple things every night, but got through it all.

On Tuesday night that had an activity at the Elementary school for students and their Dads so I went to Layton for Briton's soccer game so Adam could attend with Korinne.  When I left it was sunny and warm, but when I arrived at Britton's game it was dark, windy, and ominous.  I arrived a bit late due to other activities so I was only able to watch the game for 5 minutes before they stopped it due to lightening in the area.  It was a lot of driving for 5 minutes of soccer, but Britton and I had fun shopping at Sam's club and getting some dinner before heading home.

On Wednesday Adam, Korinne, Jameson and I went to the first ever Ridgeline Homecoming parade.  The weather did not cooperate, however, and it literally rained on our parade, but Korinne and Jmo still got enough candy to declare the event a success.  Britton was away at a cross country race, but didn't end  up running since he was kicked in the hamstring at his soccer game and it was bothering him enough that he didn't want to aggravate it by racing too soon.  He arrived home late because the boys varsity race was delayed by lightening. I hadn't gone because I knew he wasn't going to race which made it so he had to wait for the bus to get home.

On Friday Britton went to the high school homecoming game and Jenna went with Adam to the USU game.  USU's stadium has had a massive multi-million dollar overhaul and is super nice now.  It has a huge jumbo tron and Adam was happy to report that he can now understand every word being said over the loudspeaker. :-)

USU won, but Ridgeline lost. At least the Cross Country team won the Cache/ Box Invitational and brought back the traveling trophy to the school earlier in the week.  Last week Ridgeline's varsity boys XC team placed 2nd place overall in the open race at the Murray Invitational which resulted in RHS's first school trophy since opening it's doors this year.

Jameson lost his 2nd tooth so the hole in his smile keeps getting bigger.

Today is our Primary Program and it is Jameson's first time participating.  I will be leading the music and am more than happy to let his Sunbeam teacher deal with him during the meeting.  Korinne is also in the program and is ready to go with her part. You know, I think I like the program better when I can just relax and watch the results of someone else's hard work. :-)  We got a new Primary Presidency 1 month ago so this has all been thrown together last minute since the program hadn't even been written when they took over 4 Sundays ago.  I know people love the mess-ups, but since I'm leading the actual program I'm really hoping for smooth sailing.

Welcome Fall

Last Saturday morning my computer ceased functioning without warning.  It just stopped turning on and there wasn't anything we could do to change it's mind, it was d-o-n-e.  On Sunday morning my phone also stopped turning on. In 24 hours I lost the 2 pieces of technology I rely on the most.  Fortunately my computer was backed up, but I did lose my contacts and pictures from my phone. (Actually, I only lost a weeks worth of pictures since I'm pretty good about transferring pictures from my phone to my computer every Sunday. Phew). While my computer is just dead, my phone had some manufacturing problem and had to be mailed in to be repaired so I'm using and old phone until I can get it back in a couple of weeks.  I realize these are first world problems, but it really has been a pain in the neck.

Jameson doesn't just have a few friends, he has a full time posse.

Why play with just one friend when you can play with several freinds all day, every day?

These boys didn't start preschool until their older siblings were in school for 2 weeks and boy, did they take advantage of their extra 2 weeks of summer.  It was a par-tay 24-7 around the cul-de-sac.

On the Wednesday after Labor Day Jameson finally had his first day of preschool up at the University Child Development Lab.

Oh and did I mention he lost his first tooth??

He pulled it out himself and was more than happy with the $1.00 he got from the tooth fairy.  It is quite rare to start losing your teeth at the young age of 4, but guess who also starting losing his teeth at 4? Britton.  I guess it just runs in the family.

In a rare stroke of luck there are 3 other families in our neighborhood that have kids in Jameson's preschool class.  Class is 4 days a week from 12:30-3:00 p.m. and each Mom only has to drive 1 day a week!  It is positively blissful.

Jonny, Johnny, Jameson and Iris

For Britton's birthday we gave him tickets to a Real Salt Lake vs LA Galaxy game on September 7th.  It was a Wednesday night, but Adam, Britton and I traveled down for the 7:30 p.m. game knowing it was going to be a late night getting home.

Sitting next to Britton during a sporting event is like sitting by an ESPN commentator.  He knows everyone on the field, who transferred to what team and why and is constantly throwing out facts about each player and both teams.

I can't figure out how he knows all of this stuff because it's the same story for football and basketball, too.  He knows every guy that has every played the game and which team they played for and for how long.  It was an exciting game as Real was down 3-1 and came back to tie it up.  They scored the equalizer in the last 30 seconds of play. Way to end with a bang!

Jameson finally got to go to a real barbershop and get a haircut from someone who actually knows what they are doing when it comes to ethnic hair.  Geno is the man who cuts the hair of pretty much every black man living in the valley and we couldn't be more thrilled to have him.  Jameson will get to know him well in the coming years.

On Friday afternoon I took Britton down to SLC for the Murray XC Invitational.  The park has changed and the course was completely different than when I was in high school, but it still brought back a lot of memories for me.  In high school a lot of our workouts were at Murray Park so I knew it VERY well. It was definitely a little weird for me to be there as a parent this time around.

Britton smashed his PR by a minute and 30 seconds!  He loved the course and had a great race.  Ridgeline's Freshman boys team took 3rd out of the 21 teams in the Freshman only race.

I like the back of the team jerseys because they are unique and easy to spot from far away.  Ridgeline had such a strong showing in the meet I'm sure there were more than a few people thinking to themselves, "Where the heck is Ridgeline!? I've never even heard of them before."  Britton told me after the race that the guy who shot the gun to start the race was, in fact, Jared Ward the runner who finished 6th in the Marathon at the Rio Olympics a few weeks ago. Man, I really regret not paying more attention to the guy with the gun! :-)

It was about 7:00 p.m. as we left the park and because Britton had an early soccer game in Sandy the next morning we decided to stay over night at Grandma and Grandpa's house instead of driving back and forth.  It was a divide and conquer night so the other kids stayed at home with Adam.  Right next to Murray Park and across from my old Jr. High School we found all of the things we needed for a great night.  First we went to Rubio's for dinner.  It's a fresh mex place that was completely new to us so we decided to check it out.

Then we headed a few doors down to Great Clips for a free haircut.  At the Real game earlier in the week it was announced that if Real Salt Lake scored 3 goals during the game then everyone would get a free haircut from Great Clips.  I must admit that when they scored the final goal and everyone in the stadium was jumping up and down one of the first things I yelled to Adam was, "Yea! You guys get a free haircut!!" Hey, these kind of things are super important to me, I just couldn't help myself.

Next to Great Clips was Coldstone and Britton just happened to have a $10 gift card to Coldstone with him.  I know, what are the chances?!  He won it during the opening assembly of school where they called random seat numbers and had them come up for a prize. He still had it in his backpack where it was ready and waiting for us to use.  Awesome.

We really, really enjoyed our treat.

Britton's team won their soccer game in the morning 2-1 and then we headed home.  Adam was at a church thing all morning so Jenna and Korinne were on Jmo babysitting duty.  Around 7 p.m. Saturday night Adam's parents and his brother Stephen pulled in.  They were coming back from Boise and stayed over at our house on Saturday and Sunday nights.

It's always a party with Gramma and Grampa and Uncle Stephen in town.  They attended our ward and got to see Korinne and Jameson practice their primary program parts during our rehearsal for the program next week in Sacrament meeting.  They even got to go to our neighborhood Aggie ice cream social in the evening before heading to Franklin to find some Ancestor graves. They left Monday morning after the kids had gone to school.

Jenna has started on a new adventure with ballroom dancing.  It is 2 times a week for 2 hours each time and she absolutely loves it.  I'm a newbie to the sport, (I guess it's considered a sport around here) but apparently it is quite involved and she will have a few competitions this year.  She is happy to have finally found something that she can really get into and enjoy.

One major difference this school year is the change in the bus schedule.  Now that all of the our schools are close by and kids don't have to be bussed far away we no longer have to endure 6:40 a.m. bus times!!  This is kind of a big deal for us.  Jenna is the first to leave at 7:30 a.m., Britton catches a ride to school a few minutes later with our next door neighbors (we're too close to the high school for a bus), and Korinne doesn't have to leave until 8:45 a.m. We were finally able to move our family scripture study to the morning since it no longer involves waking the younger kids 1 1/2 hours before they needed to be up.  I cannot tell you how much I love the change!  Next year Britton and Jenna will be able to drive to school at 7:40 a.m. Perfect.
