Tis' the Season

December got off to a great start with the Genesis Christmas party. AJ and Jameson got a chance to meet with Santa and Mrs. Claus.  This is AJ's 2nd Christmas home so he knows it's important to let Santa know what you want.😀

This year they had a DJ and made it into a family dance so the kids had a lot of fun and Jameson got to show off his Macarena skills.

On Dec 3rd I left for a quick trip to China to bring Jen and kids back to the U.S. on the 7th.

I got to try some Vietnamese noodles with Taylor.

And get my hair washed while Taylor got his shaved off.

Running all your errands on a bike is something that I really like about China.

Wednesday was cold and rainy and Jen came in from her workout and said, "The lines at Shanghai Disney are only 5 min long. Should we go?" The answer to that question is YES, of course!

It rained all day so we pretty much walked onto the rides.  Preston did really well and even went on Peter Pan before taking a nap. We took turns staying with Preston and still finished everything we wanted to ride in 4 hrs. It was awesome.

The next day Jen and I crossed the world with Will, June and Preston and made it home without incident.

While I was gone Adam took Jameson and AJ with the youth to Temple Square.

Britton on the right

They really enjoyed it but of course AJ kept running all over the place.so it was a bit stressful for Adam.  Fortunately one of the other leaders had to bring their 6 year old daughter so the boys had a friend to help them stay together.

Back in October I was able to score 4 tickets to the Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert with Kristin Chenoweth. Britton, Jenna, Korinne and I made it to SLC early enough to get something to eat before the concert.

It was such a fun night right up until we made it back to our car and did not find it in the same condition we left it 3 hours earlier.

Someone ran into it and then just left. The damage was significant and I wasn't sure it was even drive able.  After the policeman was finished writing up his report we decided that if we had some duct tape there was a chance we would be able to get it home.  One of the good Samaritans that stuck around to see if they could be of some use said, "Hey, I think I my actually have duct tape in my car!" She procured some duct tape out of a Costco car kit and we set about getting the car in drivable condition.

The duct tape wasn't super strong so another couple that stayed around to help had us follow them to their house in North Salt Lake so they could give us some stronger duct tape.  They even gave us some roasted cinnamon sugar almonds for the drive home.

We parked in that parking lot around 6:30 p.m. next to a huge white Monster truck. The truck was gone when we returned but the people who were parked in that same spot said they had parked there at 6:45 p.m, and our car was already wrecked, which they thought was very strange, so between 6:30p.m and 6:45 p.m. we figure the white Monster truck didn't wait until he had cleared our car before turning in the lane and ruined it in the process. The Policeman didn't think there were any surveillance cameras in the parking lot so it looks like we are going to be stuck with the bill. Our insurance deductible is $1,000 so it turned out to be a very expensive free concert for us.

Its a good thing our new friends gave us some duct tape for the road because we did have to pull over on the freeway once during the trip to do some more taping.  Britton and I will never forget our midnight duct taping on the freeway.  Needless to say we were very happy to finally pull into our garage at around 12:45 a.m.

On Saturday Jameson had his last basketball game of the season.

He liked it a lot better this year and scored baskets in all of the games.

Last night Adam, Britton, Jenna and hit attended the Nashville Tribute Band concert at Ridgeline and had a great night.

After the concert we took Britton and Jenna home and then hit the end of a good friend's 40th birthday party.

In September I started a Genealogy research certificate program from Boston University and today I turned in my final report for the semester.  Each week I've had a major assignment plus a lot of reading and studying and it was a little overwhelming at times with my crazy mom schedule. I would go back and forth between feeling like I was way over my head at the start of every assignment to feeling like a freakin' rockstar for completing it and getting a good grade only to go back to feeling over my head again the very next day.  Even though I have now earned the certificate I still have more work to do before I can be considered for a contract researching position, but at least I am one step closer.

Happy Birthdaysgiving!

When your birthday is on Thanksgiving you get to spend it with a lot of family.  Korinne is our newest TEENAGER turning 13 years old on Thanksgiving Day.

She was thrilled to share her birthday with a major holiday (and by thrilled I mean NOT thrilled), but because of leap year the next go around she won't have another Thanksgiving birthday until she turns 24 years old.😊

Thanksgiving dinner at the Aunt Kathy and Uncle Brent's house.

Grandma and Grandpa, Adam and Hilary and family, and Heather and Aaron and family.  We missed the rest of the family scattered all over the world.

I had to laugh because instead of a football game, there was quite a crowd watching a dog show.  Wow. I didn't even know that was something that was televised.

Dinner is served.

I still miss the bowling on Thanksgiving but my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Brent had the annual pinata for kids 12 and under.

When we got home on Friday Jenna set to work decorating for Christmas. She loves Christmas and loves to decorate so now we are officially ready for the season.

Homecomings

We welcomed Grandma and Grandpa home from their mission to Independence, Missouri this week.  They arrived around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, the 16th.  The neighbors all came out to welcome them home as they drove up.

Jameson is in the middle of his rec. basketball season.  He is enjoying it a bit more than last year which is a good thing. He was happy to have Grandma and Grandpa at his game on Saturday.

The ballroom dance season got underway on Saturday and Jenna was ready for it.  It was a "home meet" consisting of just her ballroom company as a way for them to debut their new routines and run through all of the syllabus events before they start competing against other companies around the state. Jenna moved up to the Youth division this year (ages 15-18).  Of the 8 different syllabus events she competed in she placed in the top 3 for all of them and won 2.

She loves ballroom and couldn't be more excited for the season to begin.

We had quite a crowd in the stands.

The "other" Holidays

We didn't go anywhere for the UEA break this year, but were able to enjoy some activities close to home.  The annual pumpkin walk is always a favorite.

Who needs Disneyland when you can have the full "It's a Small World" experience at the pumpkin walk?

Another favorite display was the Coco themed one.

The boys are getting taller!

On Sunday, October 21st I turned 42 years old. The kids helped me celebrate with a delicious pie and Adam surprised us all with a personalized family history bingo game and word search for my birthday party.

The next day AJ bundled up for his preschool field trip back to the pumpkin walk.

The weather was great for some pumpkin carving with the Kirks.

The university football team had a fantastic year and Jameson and Adam enjoyed going to a game with some friends.

Britton's club soccer team finished off a great season at the end of October.  He has already started winter workouts for the high school team.

The last couple of years Jameson has really been bothered by the fact that he can't do anything really crazy with his hair on crazy hair day at school. This year I got some orange color hairspray and he loved it. Of course AJ didn't want to be left out of the fun.

Jenna and Korinne made their own costumes for Halloween.  Jenna was an angel and Korinne was a devil.

Jenna had a ballroom dance performance at another high school in the morning that required zombie make-up so she kind of turned into a zombie angel, which confused quite a few people, but she loved it.  She is the kind of person that really LOVES dressing up for Halloween.

For school on Halloween Jameson was an army guy and AJ was Thomas the Train.

Johnny, Beckett, Jameson and Ace waiting for the bus.

On Halloween night they both picked warmer costumes.  Jameson was a shark and AJ was a chicken.

The day after Halloween I felt a little bad for leaving town and making Adam deal with the post Halloween hangover craziness that always makes for a challenging few days at our house, but our K-1 reunion in Las Vegas was planned months ago and I wasn't about to miss it.

Malinda, Kaylynn, Hilary,Heather, Cyd (Ker-dog taking the picture)

You know we must be kindred spirits when we all fly in wearing the same color without coordinating. Purple for the win!

We hit old town Las Vegas and had an early dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.

Um, yes, please.

Hilary and Heather in front of the Bellagio fountains.

The night we hit the World of Dance live tour show.  World of Dance is on NBC and although none of us had watched the show I did see some clips of the 3 LDS dancers that were some of the top finishers and were selected to go on the live tour. In fact, one of the dancers was the son of Austin's cousin (Kaylynn's husband) which is how we got the idea to go to the show in the first place.

I enjoy watching crazy talented people. They were absolutely amazing!  Afterwards we waited around with Andres' family and snapped a quick picture with the dancing star.

Hilary, Keri, Kaylynn, Andres, Cyd, Malinda, Heather

Jenna actually did watch the show and was more than a little impressed that I was able to meet him and get a picture.

The next day we went hiking to see some petroglyphs.

That afternoon we hit the pool (actually I took a nap while the rest of the girls went to the pool) and then went to the outlets in the evening. Before we knew it our two days together were over and it was time to say goodbye.  Malinda and Kaylynn left early Sunday morning, Cyd left around noon, Ker-dog met up with her sisters for another quick girls trip and Heather and I stayed one more night and flew back on Monday.  We walked to a Sacrament meeting just a few miles from where we were staying and enjoyed a quiet Sunday afternoon getting caught up on our reading.

When I got home on Monday I walked into Christmas, literally. Knowing how much I don't love the Christmas season Adam and the kids thought it would be hilarious to decorate for Christmas while I was gone. They had a countdown chain (only 50 more days til Christmas), Christmas cookies, Christmas decorations and my least favorite Christmas song ever, "Feliz Navidade", playing as I walked in.  They filmed my reaction and we haven't stopped laughing about it since.

I've got to hand it to them, it was a clever practical joke.

Korinne sang in a choir for the middle school's Veterans Day assembly.  This assembly was powerful and Kristen K would definitely approve of the strong patriotism being taught to the students.  They invited military veterans from our area to attend and honored them for their service. They also had everyone in tears with an amazing video honoring those who have served in every war in our nation's history.  The program really gave the kids a greater understanding of the incredible sacrifices that have been made and are still being made so they can be free.  I went in thinking it was going to be just another boring assembly, but I left with a greater appreciation for all those who put their lives on the line every day for us. It is so refreshing in our current political climate to see students in our area learning about our amazing country and being proud to be American.

When the choir started singing "Freedom Isn't Free" a flood of memories came back because I sang that very song in elementary school!

Freedom isn't free
Freedom isn't free
You've got to pay the price
You've got to sacrifice
For your liberty!
