Update

88 days ago Adam and 6 other guys started on their P90X journey to lose weight and gain oodles of muscles.  The excitement on their first day was palpable and lasted for a lot longer than I thought it would.  Around the half way point you could see the group start to crumble a little but miraculously they held on.  Now they only have 2 more days until completion. 2 more days!  I thought I'd give an update on how each one of them did:

Remember Josh?

Before

He started with the best of intentions and lost 11 pounds early on. Then he went on a cruise during week 4 and gained back all 11 lbs in 1 week. Oops.  He has done most of the workouts (some with more enthusiasm than others) and thinks he has lost around 16 lbs at this point.

After

Remember Mike?

He injured his knee and officially fell off the wagon.  He got a big DNF (did not finish).

Remember Ryan?

His work schedule made it so he couldn't work out with the group very often.  He probably came about 15 of the 90 days.  He *claims* to have done it on his own every day and *claims* to have lost 30 lbs, but to the rest of us he looks to be down about 10 or 15 lbs. Just sayin'.

Remember Mark?

Yeah, he fell off the planet and got a big DNF.  He didn't even make it half way.

Remember Dave?

Before

Mr. "I will lose 50 lbs and have a 6 pack detectable by others" has in fact lost 40 lbs but has wisely extended his six pack time frame until September. He is still determined to get that six pack. Good job Dave! (As it turns out he isn't all talk after all)

After

Remember Adam?

Before

Yeah, he totally rocked it. He was by far the most consistent and is a true P90X grad. Everyone else missed a day here and there, but not Adam, he didn't miss a day and it shows.

After

I'll show a better picture of him later since I didn't get a great one of him tonight.  He has lost a total of 27 lbs and can fit into his mission suit. 'Nuff said.

Remember Scott?

He joined the group 2 weeks late so he still has 2 weeks to go, but he is down about 9 or 10 lbs.

Lookin' pretty buff guys! (I never could get a good workout shot)

For 3 months we've had a group of guys working out in our basement every night between 9 and 10 p.m.  It will feel a little weird to go back to normal after being the hub of all P90X exercise activity.

The New Generation

I know I've written a lot about Korinne lately, but tonight she made us laugh.  We were just about to start family scripture study and she was sitting on Adam's lap with her toy laptop computer.  We told her it was time to put the computer away so we could read scriptures and she looked up and said in a matter of fact voice,  "I'm going to PBSscriptures.org right now."

PBSscriptures.org?? That must be a new site I'm not familiar with.

It reminds me of the time a few years ago that she was "reading" scriptures and said, "Alma and Rapunzel went to the city. . . "  Yup, Rapunzel.  I must have missed that chapter. In Korinne's mind if Dad can read scriptures on his phone then surely she can read them on her laptop.  Um, hello Mom!  Don't you know it's the 21st century?

It's sooo good and healthy!

Korinne likes to cook.  Now she has started "thinking like a cook" (a phrase we learned while watching the show "The Worst Cooks in America" while I ran on the treadmill every Monday morning over a 6 week period).  Tonight I was getting ready to start dinner but before I could even begin Korinne had already set up her own work station and was cutting into a tomato.  She had her cutting board, a trusty butter knife, and a bowl to put the food in.  For ingredients she had a tomato and asparagus.  She did all of this 100% on her own and I had no idea what she was going to do with it.

"Korinne, what are you making?"
"It's a recipe that is sooo good and healthy!"

I let her fiddle around a bit.  When I took this picture she had a chopped tomato in a bowl mixed in with the asparagus.  Good color, good texture. Very healthy.  Her next creation was a salad.  She put some lemon juice and lime juice in the salad and added a few other things and then for crunch she added some crushed cheerios on top.  She didn't have us eat her salad, she just put it on the counter and told us it needed to dry a little before we could eat it.  She did assure us, however, that it was "sooo good and healthy".

"This is a good recipe, Mom, it is going to be sooo good."

I'm thrilled that she is so interested in cooking.  Whenever someone is cooking in the house, Korinne is right there.  She has gotten to the point of being somewhat helpful.  I can give her an assignment to snap the green beans and she is all over it.  She likes to cut things up and I'm amazed at how much she can do with a butter knife.  Another small kitchen victory is the fact that I've finally gotten my Brazilian rice and beans to a point that the kids are actually excited when I say we're having rice and beans for dinner.  We got cilantro and mangoes in our bountiful basket this week so we had rice and beans tonight with mango on the side, When Korinne set the table with leftover Luau paper plates with palm trees on them from Jenna's birthday party it made me feel like I was back in Brazil. So yummy.

March Madness

It's raining today and the snow is mostly gone.  I'm sure it will snow again before the spring is over, but at least we know that it won't stick for long and that makes me happy.  Korinne thinks she doesn't need to wear a jacket anymore.  For such a little person she sure is tough when it comes to weather.  All winter long she resisted wearing tights or long sleeve dresses to church because they made her "too hot."  Never mind that it was 3 degrees outside.  At night she would refuse to wear warm pajamas because she insisted she got too hot under her thin blanket. (I was in full sweats with an extra blanket on my bed, of course.)  She sure didn't get her ability to stay warm from me!

Adam is excited to get his march madness on this week.  I'm really hoping our Aggies can pull a win.  I'm not asking for much, just 1 win and I will be happy.

We eat dinner together every night and usually the kids are quite talkative.  Last night we sat down to eat and Britton was reading a book at the table, Jenna was listening to music on Adam's phone and was dancing while she was eating and Korinne was laying down on the bench because she has been sick and was feeling tired.  After a few failed attempts to get the kids' attention Adam and I just kind of looked at each other and laughed.  It's nice to know when all else fails we still have each other.  Korinne is at a stage where every day when she wakes up she looks a little bit older to me. She is growing so fast!

I have started a new fitness program called rip:60.  It goes for 60 days and I'm supposed to get "ripped".  My friend Desi comes over every morning at 9 a.m. and we work out together.  Let's see how "ripped" I actually get.  After watching Adam and his P90X group I'm convinced that group fitness is the way to go.  You've got to have a friend to get you going on days when you don't want to go, you know what I mean? Sure you do.  We're all in the same boat when it comes to motivation.  We're on week 2 and there are 8 weeks in the program.  woot woot

Dressed in White

Yesterday was a very exciting day for Jenna.  She was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  As I was doing her hair she exclaimed, "I've been waiting for this day my whole life!!"

Both sets of Grandparents were there to support Jenna on her big day.

We participated in a stake baptism program and there was one other girl from our ward being baptized.  When we got to the font for our ward's baptisms we were informed that the heater in the font wasn't working and that the water was cold. We soon realized that it wasn't just a little bit cold, but a LOT cold. They actually had to clear away a little bit of ice from the top of the water when they arrived that morning.  Jenna was very happy that she went completely under the first time and didn't have to be baptized a second time.  Both she and Adam were out of that water in record time.  As I helped her get her wet clothes off and dry off we talked about how she was just like the pioneers because many of them had to be baptized in freezing cold water, too.  She had a great attitude, "This will make my baptism so easy to remember!"  While waiting to be confirmed both Jenna and the other girl who was baptized from our ward were literally shivering and had blankets wrapped around them.  Jenna still loved her experience and had a great day.  Adam had 2 sisters and their families travel to be with us and I had 2 sisters from my side that were able to come.  It was a lot of fun to see them and spend a few hours with cousins.

Congrats, Jenna!
