Pict Command

Project Pict actually finished way back in Pictober last year. Apart from adding some banners and a few shields that is, which I promised myself wouldn't take long...
The banners are still WiP on my laptop. But I got fed up and added shields to this pair who don't need a banner to finish them off!

Intended to represent a Level 2 commander in games of Midgard - that's why there's two of them on the base.
Not that easy to photograph with the way I've posed them.
Very jolly First Corps miniatures

Pictober (3)

Making good progress with the Picts now.

Another mounted unit.

Hearthguard and characters to finish now.

Pictober (2)

A couple more crossbowmen.

Plastic Gripping Beast bodies with metal Westwind heads.

Only needed two to add to the existing six to give me two skirmishing units of four each.

Pictober (1)

It's Pictober again - and I'm determined to get the whole army ready for Midgard which is out next month.

So first up some shaggy pony riders.

Very nice Gripping Beast models.

Up close the heavy use of Contrast Paints makes them look a little rough, but at gaming distance they're fine and the Contrast/Speed Paints mean I'm actually getting them finished.

Pictober (10)

Back to the better wrapped up versions

Not looking forward to all the shields and bases I've got coming up.

Pictober (9) - more exposure

More Dark Age Scottish lads defying the climate of their native lands.

This lad, waving his chopper about, has either suffered some miscasting or else the sculptor finally remembered how chilly it can be north of the border.

That's it now, no more Early Medieaval Naturists to be found in the leadpile.

Pictober (8)

More BTD metals bashed out dead quick like.

I noticed part way through this batch that they all have swords. Which doesn't seem entirely right - swords to my mind were status symbols and most warriors would likely have just had a spear, I may have to try some rudimentary conversions on the remainder. Or maybe these are all the nobles?

Pictober (7)

More BTD metals but in a Contrast stylee.

The Contrast method may leave a bit to be desired, but I'm racing through these and en masse they'll look fine.

Pictober (6)

A switch to Contrast paints for the last three plastic Gripping Beast spearmen (for now).

The problem with Contrast is the white undercoat is very unforgiving when you've missed a bit. Gren bloke in particular needs his hair touching up!

Pictober (5)

Four more, in a fetching beige colour

Need to undercoat some more now. Or start on shields.

Pictober (4)

 More bearded Scottish fellas

The usually reliable Vallejo Sepia wash has dried all shiny - leaving these pictures looking like there are off light coloured patches on some of them.
Nothing a coat of matt varnish won't solve, but a bit annoying all the same.

Pictober (3)

Three more fully clad (thank the Lord!) Picts

Sprayed with Halfords Matt Green Camo Spray, add some other colours, Vallejo Sepia wash all over, highlight with base colours, done.
