The Men Who Would Be Kings in the Sudan

I recently gave my Sudan collection a bit of a run-out using the Babbage solo rules

Here are the results in a video stylee

It was a short and brutal affair.
The hard charging Beja are an altogether different beast to the shootier Pathans I'm more used to playing against.
It didn't help that I seemed to roll an endless succession of sixes fro the Beja, resulting in them constantly charging 14" to hit home against the poor highlanders!

I'm now quite excited to paint up a few more from the leadpile for this period.

Here are some pictures I took that I staged after the game that I was intending to insert into the video, but decided against it in the end

A pair of Beja

A couple more Beja that I came across in the assembled and undercoated pile.

Skin tones make them dashed tricky to photograph.

Beja Warriors

I used contrast paints to crank out a very speedy unit of 16 Beja for games of TMWWBK.

Wyldwood for the Flesh, Snakebite for shields and other leathery bits, Goregrunta for the wood parts, Templar for the hair, Bone for some of the robes.
For variety I did some of the robes using wash and re-highlight up to white.
Very quick indeed and while they'll not win any prizes they look good en masse and at gaming distance.

Perry Sudan Highland Command

Commanders for my Sudan Highlanders.

Purchased many moons ago and painted after I got excited by the Egyptians.

Lovely characterful models. A proper bugger to clean up though - I do wish the Perry's would get a mould maker to match their sculpting talents.

This means I now have two full units of Highlanders, one of Egyptians and half a unit of red-coated British. I also have a box of the Perry Plastic British which will give me another unit of Indian uniform for this theatre (the rest of the box will make NWF forces).

Perry Egyptian Infantry for the Sudan

I had a yearning to add to my Sudan collection. I've painted plenty of tribesmen but the British force remains incomplete. As a change from the 4x regulars of my NWF TMWWBK British collection I thought I'd add some white clad Egyptians.

Lovely jolly Perry models and nice and quick to paint. I like the slightly "toy soldier" feel of them all marching along.

Now I've taken the pictures it looks like the bases need a bit of work.

I think I'll order the command set and six more to give me two full units of 12.
