Dark Age Kulkulkani War Captain

Back to the Blue guys!  This is the Kulkulkani War Captain.  Just as it was with most of the others from this faction, I had some fun painting the flesh tones. :-)

Also, I was able to juxtapose that blue flesh tone with some nice warm oxide browns.  Tack on that little bit of golds, and you have a fun color wheel miniature!

Dark Age Games Kulkulkani Devoted Priest

Since Dark Age has been releasing lots of new stuff these days, I figured that it was time to start posting some of the Kulkulkani figures which i painted for them.  In this case. a Devoted Priest.

I enjoyed painting the flesh tones on these folks!  Each one seemed to be a bit more exotic. :-)

Kukulkani faction for Dark Age Games

Here are a few miniatures in the new set released by Dark Age.  This is the Kukulkani faction.

Millennia ago the ancient Mayans of Terra where chosen by their god and master, the winged serpent Kukulkan, to be elevated above the lowly tribes of the world. Their master, in reality a member of the powerful and technologically advanced Coatl race, lifted his willing servants up and has, over millenia, shaped them into a race of bio-enhanced warriors and zealous priests, eager to gain his blessing by slaying all those who would oppose his will.

Now Kukulkan has set his sights on Samaria, following mysterious energy reading mimicking the Coatl's own entropic power sources only to find their holy technologies bastardized by the lifeless machines of the CORE. This blasphemous act, coupled with an ancient grudge against the Alteghrans, the forebears of the Dragyri, have unleashed the full might of the Kukulkani upon all of Samaria.

Woe to the enemies of Kukulkan, may all tremble and despair!

These are the Warrior figures available in the starter set.

The Harpies attack!

Today we have a fun unit from Dark Age Games.  This is from the Skarrd faction, and they are Harpies.

The Harpy was the first successful strain of modified creature that the Grafters ever created.  Based on Female subjects, they are modified to become terrifying shock troops for the Skarrd.

First, the fingers of each woman are removed, down to the last knuckle.  In their place are implanted razor sharp steel talons that will become their only weapons.  In addition, their backs are carved open and upon them are mounted wings... powerful but limited in function.

The collateral damage done to the nervous system, coupled with the agony of the process, turns all Harpies into raving lunatics.  However intelligent they may have been before the surgery, their minds are vastly reduced to subhuman levels, capable of only the simplest and most vicious of thoughts.

The Harpies were sculpted by Werner Klocke.

A converted Dark Age hero as an Inquisitor

Here's a fun little conversion that I did using a Dark Age figure and a few 40K bits.  I added a few green stuff purity seals, and voila!

Painting with great Zeal...

Here's a selection of Skarrd minis from Dark Age.

They are Buzz Blades chosen by the Sister of Charity to become Mights and Zeals.  Might warriors have already proven to have natural resilience and strength, which is enhanced dramatically through various drugs and chemical compounds.

Zeals look miserable and lost when standing still, resembling a drug addict awaiting his next fix.  Slender and gaunt, these Zeals will do anything to please their mistress, Sister Charity.  She adopts them and augments them with biochemical and grafting apparatus to their muscles.

Forces of the Forsaken: Saint Mark

Here is a faction of Forsaken led by the character of Saint Mark.  The Forsaken are divided into those various Saints (you saw a lot of St. John yesterday).

These are some Banes painted in the St. Mark color scheme (you might recognize the snakebite leather based colors on the cloaks from the Privateer Press post last night).  These were also sculpted by Werner Klocke.

The group shots...

And Saint Mark himself.

The first of the Saints, Mark is an ambitious, cunning and charismatic individual.  Regarded by some as an emissary, by others as a ruthless brigand, he now finds himself embroiled in a bloody war against the alien Dragyri.  Nowhere are the casualties as high as in the Western Crusade, and seemingly endless caravans of civilian fugitives flee for New Ashkeleon from the West.  Mark's elite Reavers and Shades are masters of subtlety, and when necessary the assassins can be backed up by the immensely powerful Junkers.

More Banes from Dark Age

Now for the rest of the Banes.  Again, some minis that could serve several purposes.  They can always make good Inquisitor retinue figures, as I have done that in the past.  A chainsword here and a purity seal there...

If you check out my Demonhunters posts, you will see several Dark Age figures that were converted in such a way.  I may even have some of them still!

Here's the group shots...

The Bane of your Existence

Some more Dark Age for you today.  These were some of my favorites, sculpted by Werner Klocke.

These are from the Forsaken faction, painted in St. John color scheme.  I was considering using these for at least one of the painting videos, as the robes are very extensive, with lots of surfaces.

I thought these would be good candidates for using the powders as a painting/shading tool, as opposed to just weathering.

I always thought that with some conversion, the female versions of these could make good Sisters of Battle!

I discovered a step by step painting guide I had made for these, which I will post tomorrow.  You can see the Shaded Basecoat technique in its earliest stage of development.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee...

Here's an interesting set of minis from Dark Age Games.  They are called Stingers.

I really enjoyed the greenish grey color scheme.  The blasted concrete bases are also lots of fun!  Just a nice thick sheet of baked sculpey broken into pieces...

Air raid: Some Dragyri from Dark Age

It continues to be very very hectic here!  Lots of activity in so many areas.  Before I try to prepare for "officially" announcing the Kickstarter on CoolMiniOrNot, I wanted to get in a late night blog post. :-)

This one involves the Dragyri Air Caste.  We have a Trueborn, in this case a Whisper.  The flesh tones on these figures had to be grey, as opposed to the usual brown of the Ice Caste.

Here a Yovanka joins the Whisper.  The base design became a particular favorite of mine, and I did it for all the trueborns in this batch.

Here we have a Taskmaster, and a crystal base made from sculpey.  More techniques that I am making videos for the Kickstarter!

Here's the Taskmaster with some slaves...

And finally, a batch of normal slaves.  The Dragyri really "scale up", as you have these really little guys, who give way to some bigger Trueborns, all the way up to big monsters!
