Deal Me In

This Doc Holiday figure was one of my favorite WWX figures, mostly because of the fun I had creating the tree and the bloody playing cards!

One of his abilities was to decapitate enemies by tossing these playing cards at them.  So, I cut up some tiny pieces of paper and painted both number and face cards.  It was definitely a challenge!!

Painting the patterns on the backs of the cards was even more difficult.  Of course, they did not have to be completely perfect, since I was putting blood effects on them.

It was on my WWX figures that I really got into the "bark and branch" technique, using tree branches and dried foliage to create small trees.

Now that I use the airbrush for 'primer painting', getting color on these pieces of foliage is far easier!!

The Marshall

I have painted a few of the Ladies of the West now... but finally one of them is ready for my Lawmen of Wappelville!

Continuing the theme of painting figures that require similar colors,  the palette of this figure matched those of 3 other genres that I was working on at the time.  For instance, if I am working on a skin tone, I will try to find as many figures as possible that require something similar and do that all at once.

I even used some of these same colors on a treeman and a troll... even on a giant birdman and WW2 figures.  The list goes on, and so does the progress.  As I have said before, it is a fantastic way to keep the line moving and get things done more rapidly.

Lately, however, I have noticed the "side" benefit more and more, which is keeping the energy level higher.  Instead of getting bored painting the same thing over and over (especially if the figures are not favorites!!) I can switch to something else that I do enjoy, and take the sting out of painting things that really don't interest me.

Countess

Here's one of the new releases from Wild West Exodus, this time for the Enlightened.

She's Countess Augusta Byron, and she has the ability to rejuvenate the dead somewhat.

Not a surprise, as this Franniestien countenance illustrates.  This Boss also has some powerful weaponry, and you certainly don't want to get close to her!

She will join Tesla and the rest of the growing Enlightened force that continues to infringe on the town of Wappelville... stay tuned.

Captain Nimue

Legendary Captain Nimue is the first new figure that I have been able to add to my Wild West Exodus forces for well over a year!  It was quite a complex way to restart that task.

It is quite obvious how complex she is with the various parts and angles... but the water effects definitely raised that level even more.

Not only were several layers of water effects added, but many of those were tinted various hues of seafoam green, blues, and so on.  The hope was to create a translucent appearance, giving it the raging greenish waves while also making the tentacle seem as if it was still wet from rising out of the water.

These images show those lighter greens at work, with subsequent layers of clear water effects over the top to make that have more depth.

You can see the water drops hanging from the tentacle, which also took many layers to create.  They must be made in the same way a regular water drop forms... one little blob added onto the previous blob, so that it looks like a drop and not an icicle!

Here she is with her stat card.  I really look forward to using her as the boss for my Mercenary force!!

Wappelville Lives Again!!

Something that was a huge and pleasant surprise this year at Adepticon was the discovery that Wild West Exodus remains alive, and is being rejuvenated!

For the first time in over a year, the town of Wappelville, and all the painted Wild West Exodus miniatures were out and on display!

Even with a few of the bigger beasties left behind, you can see quite the horde of figures creating chaos in the streets!

The buildings are all provided by Burn in Designs.  I have several blog posts showing how I painted those:

There's also the bank, bar and church:

Here's an article on painting the Jail:

I've done a number of Battle Reports, and more adventures will be on the way!

Powered by the deadly RJ-1027 energy, Lawmen and Outlaws duke it out at high speeds over the Badlands:

There's no shortage of fantastic minis!!

Division abounds in the West, as even the Free Nations struggle in deadly conflicts!

The Golden Buggy

So far you've seen a variety of heavy and light support figures from various new factions created in the Unfinished Business campaign by Wild West Exodus.

Today we will introduce the fourth and final faction,  the Golden Army.

This faction is composed of a few different archetypes.  Leading the way is Ponce de Leon, who has learned about an interesting side effect of prolonged contact with RJ-1027.

Spanish conquistadors now roam parts of the weird west, along with the dirt farmers.

This is the heavy support for the Golden Army.

The Swamp Rats

With the four new factions created in the recent Wild West Exodus kickstarter expansion came not just a huge batch of new miniatures... but new battlegrounds!

Taking their rebellion to the swamps and bayous, the Confederacy conducts a guerrilla campaign, striking from out of nowhere, only to return to their nearly invisible hideouts once the assault is complete.

While their technology might lack the advancement of their Union foes, they can make the most of it.  Here and older blackhoof, precursor to the iron horse and other bikes, is used as light support for those hit and run attacks.

I'm looking forward to painting more of the Confederate Rebellion, as I can contrast the burning glow of the RJ-1027 against even more muted camouflage colors!

I will also get a chance to do more swamp bases!

The first of many... so stay tuned for much more.

The Nations go to War!

Now that I have gotten some of the Bosses and heavy support completed for the Dark Nation, I wanted to contrast them with their former bretheren... the Warrior Nation

I have The Wendigo heavy support from the Dark Nation on the right, while the Great Elk, brims with the natural energies of the Great Spirit.

Great heroes of the Warrior Nation such as Geronimo and Sitting Bull face off against Big Horn and Avacano.  Right away, you can see that the Dark Nation have chosen to adopt the weapons of The Enemy, powered by the hated RJ-1027 power source.

Use of such a power source corrupts completely.  Each of the characters from the Dark Nation shows this corruption in one form or another.

Sitting Bull and Big Horn square off in these images.

Geronimo will never use the RJ powered weaponry, choosing his own claws and his courage instead.  This is seen as foolhardy by the Dark Nation.  To turn the weapon of The Enemy against him can only mean ultimate victory!

It's not just great warriors, heroes and beasts that have turned against on another.  Yes, even the braves and scalpers have become divided.

This conflict will likely grow far worse, and far more deadly!  Stay tuned to find out what happens...
