Necromunda: Underhive hangers-on

I'm trying to concentrate on, if not one thing at a time, then less things at a time. I'm really glad to have these underhive characters painted- they're fantastically overdetailed sculpts and were not amenable to batch painting. I did use a few Speedpaints and worked on getting them finished rather than perfect. I'm trying for a somewhat limited, earthy palette.

Underhive Hangers-on

Rogue doc and servo skull

The classic plague mask with a bunch of scalpel fingers, poking implements, and doctor's bag. He's got a handy medi-skull as well.

The doctor will see you now.

Ammo jack

She's wielding a power hammer in one (augmetic) hand and a cigar in the other. Her backpack is festooned with grenades, magazines, ammo, and a boltgun.

Perfect for home defence.

Slopper

This cook carries a brazier and has roast mutant rat and a tentacle on his advertising pole. He's got a cleaver, knife sharpener, and pepper pot on his belt as well as an oven mitt. The ladle is lashed to a crowbar.

"More?!"

Dome Runner

I think this pose and vaguely rodent-like mask is as close as we'll ever get to the Ratskins coming back. The dome runner is an underhive guide, and I liked the idea of him having a blueprint spread out.

"I know a shortcut..."

Hive Watcher

This is a great figure, more machine than man. I gave him very grey, sallow skin.

40K Lamenters: Phobos Librarian

Whilst I was doing camo capes last week, I used the opportunity to polish off this character. He's a stealthy space wizard, using his abilities to mask his brothers' efforts. The force sword came out much better than I expected, and I like the chequered bookmark.

40K Lamenters: Eliminators

These Lamenters are snipers, hiding their canary yellow power armour with camo capes. I'm quite happy with the sergeant's magnoculars.

I've painted those three and touched up my earlier standing Eliminator- I've changed the markings to reflect the 10th Company. I like how his pauldron is proudly on display.

40K Sisters of Battle: Cherubim

I love 40K Cherubs. They perfectly encapsulate the grimdark bonkersness of it all.

They are vat-grown bio-constructs designed to look like babies. No truth to the rumour they are lobotomised infants, no. These cherubim are carrying ammunition canisters and a censer. At some point I may add more details to their scrolls.

I have an idea for a bitter AdMech aspirant who discovers how cherubs are 'made'- the true horror is that he could do it 1.4% more efficiently! Cue conflicts and shenanigans.

Necromunda: Caryatids

Caryatids are bizarre blue things in the underhive. They are said to bring good luck. They have been associated with Necromunda since the before-times of Confrontation (1990).

This is a plastic Caryatid Prime from 2024.

This metal Gargouille is a John Pickford sculpt associated with the second Colony 87 Kickstarter (2016). I don't think the figure was ever released commercially. He's on a 20mm base.

40K Sisters of Battle: Seraphim

I painted these flying nuns almost three years ago, but realised that I haven't posted them to this blog.

The Seraph Superior has a rose for her wax purity seal... marvellous detail.

I really like these figures, but the flight stands are a delicate pain. They have the tiniest connection to the jump-pack and are very fragile.

I've added a washer beneath each base to drop the centre of gravity.

40K Lamenters: Suppressors

These are one of the weapon systems of all time. Some sort of anti-grav/ hover tech, mated to a massive automatic weapon. Beaten zone for days!

These have been on my painting desk for ages, and then I lost one of the heads. I recently found it again, and with the impetus to clear some room before AHPC XVI, I finished them off. I used paperclips for the flight stands, drilled into their legs. I got these off eBay without the clear plastic flight stands. The original flight stands were notoriously awful at staying intact. I've had enough problems with my flying nuns*.

* I realised I haven't posted these to the blog, and I'll do that next week.

Grimdark Future: Red Corsairs vs a Knight

Just some photos of our latest game- we pulled out all the stops to have a big battle, that lasted several hours. The main drawcard was the intimidating knight! I was torn between trying to bring it down or ignoring it, and pathetically chose a terrible mixture of the two. I did a lot of damage, but couldn't bring it to its armour-plated knees. There are optional rules for accumulating damage, which I may consider in the future- otherwise a warmachine with one wound left operates at full strength, but a platoon with one guy left is pretty useless.

Stompy robot! With hand-painted markings.

Hordes of cultists. The movement bases are a real time-saver.

The lascannons did a lot of damage.

My elite close combat squad flubbed their moment and got taken out.

The wolves ripped the cultists apart.

The spider chased the wolf up the side of the building.

The spider charged the knight but got squished underfoot.

My commanders scaled the building to attack the knight, but couldn't kill it.

This was our biggest battle yet, and it was a bit of a drain in the evening. But we played it to a satisfying conclusion, and got some big toys out.
