Saturday's Critters # 486

 Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Happy Easter!  🐇🐰🥚

March 8th, hubby and I went on a boat tour to the Marietas Islands.  We saw so many wonderful sights on this tour I am breaking up the trip into two posts. The photos were from two docks, we were first on the boat at the Nuevo Vallarta Marina, then we picked up more people at the Puerto Vallarta dock. We had a great sightings of the whales and birds in flight on our way to the Marietas Islands.

1. In the mosaic below are photos of the dock, a Magnificent Frigatebird, Pirate Ship and Cruise ships both at the dock, lots of Terns, Gulls and Brown Pelicans.

Click on images for better viewing.

2. Magnificent Frigatebird perched on top of a boat.

3.   At the Puerto Vallarta docks, I saw the Terns. I saw on ebird that both the Royal Tern and the Elegant Terns are seen at the Puerto Vallarta cruise port.  For some reason they all look similar to me, I do see some that have a lighter color gray.

4. Laughing Gull, Brown Pelican and Terns.

5. I am a little obsessed with Terns. Are they Royal Terns or Elegant Terns, or a mix of both? I am pretty sure they are not Caspian Terns, which are larger in size with a thicker heavy bill.

6.   Some views of the whales sighted on the way out to the Marietas Island in the Bay of Banderas.

7. I went from looking at the whales to looking up in the sky at the Blue-footed Boobies. These birds seem to be attracted to the water around the boat, they would dive into the water right next to the boat.

8. It was fun watching these birds flying low over our boat.

9. Which way to look, up or down. Of course, I was looking up at the Blue-footed Boobies.

"Inside us all patiently waiting, sits a tiny little adventurous bird."

More from Puerto Vallarta Mexico on March 6th, these images are from a tour of the city area and the Malecon walkway near the waterfront. Below you will see I am sharing some critter statues from Puerto Vallarta.

1. Mosaic below is from our walk near the waterfront, on the Malecon walkway, the various sculptures and the nearby Cathedral.

2. The sculpture of the rider on the Seahorse.

3. I love this dolphin sculpture.

4. Tropical Kingbirds are seen all over the place.

5. Brown Pelicans are another common bird we saw in Puerto Vallarta.

6. A horse was outside a Coffee Factory we visited.

7. The dog was hanging around outside too.

8. Along with all the sculptures on the Malecon, we found these Rocking Horses.

Our guide and tour was through Puerto Vallarta Discovery, he was a great guide and I was happy to hear that he and his wife and her family have land and built nest boxes set high in trees to help the Military Macaws.

"It's never too late to start birding."

Happy New Year everyone! Thanks to all my visitors for your past and present comments. I appreciate everyone who has linked up their critter post this past year, I do love seeing all your critters. May this New Year be filled with much Joy and wonderful moments and critters for you!

Late November, for 5 days we were in Jamaica. It was great having a direct flight to Montego Bay from our airport BWI.  Just a little over 3 hours we were in Jamaica. Hubby and I would start our day watching the sunrise from the balcony of our room. I enjoyed watching the Brown Pelicans, Great Egrets, Great Blue Heron, Pigeons and the White-winged Doves flying around the resort.

1. Nov 26th, Jamaica pigeon, White-winged Dove, Brown Pelican and a Great Blue Heron fly by.

Water activities galore, diving and snorkeling, kayaking and more right next door to our resort.

2. Nov 27th, distant Great Egret, a couple of Brown Pelicans

Nov 27th, a couple of Brown Pelicans are perched on the boat below. It was a pretty sky watch day.

There were some trees along the beach, nice spots to sit in the shade. I would watch hubby snorkeling and at the same time see and hear the Bananaquits moving around in the trees.

3. Nov 28th, the Brown Pelicans were seen every morning, some times perched on one of the boats. The Great Egrets were seen fishing every morning.

4. Nov 28th , the sunrise from our balcony.

5. Nov 29th, while watching the sunrise I was also watching the Brown Pelicans and the Great Egrets in front of our resort.

6. I zoomed in on the Great Egret walking on the distant pier.

7. Nov 30th, our last morning at breakfast these two cats liked to hang out on the restaurant's patio, maybe getting food from the hotel guest.

8. Nov 30th, one last look at the ocean and resort while waiting for our airport transfer.

9. Nov 30th, a sky shot from the plane on the way home.

Hubby and I love to travel, this was our first time visiting Jamaica, it was a fun and pretty island to visit.  We are already planning our next trip and I am looking forward to our next adventure.

"I haven't been everywhere but it is on my list."

10. A bonus Christmas collage of our grandsons Wyatt and Mason.

Happy Thankful Thursday

 Happy Thursday everyone!

It's New Year's Eve, I think we are all looking forward to a happy and healthy New Year.  Hopefully we can say bye-bye to Covid and return to somewhat of our normal lives.  I am thankful that hubby and I remained virus-free. I am sorry and sad about all those who passed away due to the virus, I am sorry if you lost a family member or a friend.

I am sharing some favorite photos of the past year, fun times with hubby and simple joys of skywatching and bird-watching. These are a few of my "favorite things".  I am thankful for the simple things that make me happy and bring me joy just looking at them.

1.  January 2020... Florida Brown Pelicans flying by, saying goodbye for now.  We were heading home from Florida on the first of January 2020.  We had no idea what was coming (the coronavirus) in March 2020.  At this time Maryland requested everyone wear a mask,. Keep safe, stay the social distance and keep washing your hands.

2.  February 2020..full moon

"May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know it's beauty all the days of your life."

3.  March 2020, a Great Blue Heron at our neighborhood heron rookery.  March 15th  was the last time hubby and I met our son and his wife and ate inside a restaurant.

4.  April 2020...our Grand-dogs the shepherd mix is Nibbles and the Corgi is Winnie.  . Good news is we are looking forward to welcoming our grandson in Feb 2021.

5. May 2020.. the pink lady slipper is a sight I enjoy seeing each year off of our local fire road.  I am thankful for these rare orchids. May 4th was our 30th Anniversary.

6. June 2020.. we managed a Shenandoah NP getaway staying safe mostly in our car and taking a hike on a park trail.  I am thankful for the beautiful sunsets.

7.  July 2020, another getaway to the Blackwater NWR in Cambridge Maryland. I am thankful for the beautiful and peaceful nature scenes.

8. August 2020...I am always happy to see the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds in my yard.  I have my feeders up early spring and we plant flowers that we know the hummingbirds love.

9. September 2020...  I was happy to see one of my favorite birds, the Red-breasted Nuthatch return to our area for the winter.  These birds return during an irruption year also called a finch year.

10. October 2020... we did a quick getaway to Chincoteague Island, walks on the beach and we saw lots of ponies and birds.

11. November 2020.. It's Bald Eagle time at the Susquehanna River just below the Conowingo Dam.

11a... Our Grand-dog Chewy crossed over the rainbow bridge November 4th.  He was a sweetie and is missed..

12. December 2020.. Pretty sky and geese on the field at our favorite local restaurant.. We are thankful for their great carry-out dinners. December was our birthday month, Dec 2nd was mine, the 7th was my son's 28th birthday and the 10th was hubby's.  "Mine for evermore. Will you still need me, will you still feed me. When I'm sixty-four..by the Beatles.

Hubby and I are thankful we were able to go on a few getaways during this past year. The first of Jan 2020 we were driving home from a trip to Florida, Shenandoah NP, Chincoteague Island, Blackwater NWR are all favorite places to visit.  We were able to social distance and wear our mask keeping safe. Most of these trips were spent in our car..

I am thankful for all my blog followers, for all your past comments and  visits during this past year..

I wish everyone all the best in 2021, a very happy and healthy New year! May the New Year bring you Peace, Love and Happiness!

I am thankful for the healthcare workers and all the essential workers who have put their lives at risk during this past year.  I remain thankful that we continue to stay healthy.  I hope everyone stays healthy and safe.

Go outside and breathe deeply.  Enjoy every moment.

Take care and stay safe!

Live simple and be happy!  😊 Keep smiling!
