Pompano Beach Florida

Hello and happy Monday!

During our visit to Florida we made a quickie visit to Pompano Beach Florida. This is a busy city and is located just north of Ft. Lauderdale. The nearby Hillsboro Inlet forms part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. My main reasons or goal for visiting Pompano beach was to see the parakeets that were being seen near the beach and Pompano Pier and to see the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse.

I was lucky to get a metered spot right in front of the beach and so lucky my parking spot was right in front of the tree were the Blue-crowned Parakeets were being seen. As soon as I got out of our car I could hear the noisy parakeets. There may have been 15-20 of the pretty parakeets in the one tree. These Blue-crowned parakeets are my newest lifer.

Photos in the mosaic, I was able to zoom in on the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse. Black Skimmer were on the Pompano Beach along with some pretty Terns. The beach and water had this ugly red seaweed, it did not look like the usual sea weed I am used to seeing.

Below is my parakeet tree, the parakeets almost blended in with the green leaves.

I didn't count them but there were maybe 30 or more Black Skimmers on the beach and with some Terns and Gulls.

A closer look at the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse, there was a helicopter flying by when I took the photo from the Pompano beach. Lighthouse tours are offered only once a month and it includes a boat ride to the island where the lighthouse is located.

Thanks for your visit today!  I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

Sunset Beach, Part II

Happy Monday, wishing everyone a great day and week ahead!

November is flying by, this Thursday is Thanksgiving. Soon it will be Christmas, are you ready? When do you put up your Christmas tree, do decorate the whole house? Lately I have been feeling less is more, I might just put up a small tree and be done.

I have some more photos from our visit to my sister's in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. I love walks on the beach, watching the birds and hearing the sound of the waves. I hope you enjoy.

Snooze time!

Black Skimmers and Gull friends.

Gulls, Terns and Brown Pelicans on Sunset Beach.

Me and my shadow!

The waves were not big, but it is always nice to listen to the sound of the waves.

All the little brown dots are the shorebirds, like Dunlins, Willets, Semipalmated Plovers and more. We saw large flocks of shorebirds at the end of Sunset beach, I think this was a resting spot for the migrating birds.

As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

Black Skimmer

Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes and NC Sue Wordless
I hope you can join in and share your wild birds and nature scenes.

For this week's wild bird I am featuring the Black Skimmer.  They are grouped with the Laridae family of gulls, terns and kin.

These photos are from our last visit to Cape May, NJ early in July. The Black Skimmer have an awesome long red and black bill.

They have a black back and cap and white underparts and red legs.  They are one of my favorite water birds to see in the summer months.

I am so happy with the zoom on my Canon SX40. It is great for taking closeups of the birds on the beach without disturbing them. I hope you enjoyed my wild bird and post. Thanks for stopping by and for the nice comments.

Till next week's wild bird post. Join in and post your birdies and to see more beautiful and wonderful bird and nature photos please visit:

Fort Island Gulf Beach

I am linking up with   Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday   They are both fun memes to participate in...I hope you can join in with the fun  and check out some of the participating posts.

It is the last day of May, unbelievable how fast the days are going..I love summer so I am hoping for lots of warm sunny days ahead.. Are you ready for some more of Florida? These are shots from the Fort Island Gulf beach in Crystal River on Florida's gulf coast.

The Fort Island Gulf Beach was a pretty spot with a nice sandy beach.

I am not positive but I am guessing that the Terns above are the Royal Terns with some Laughing Gulls.

We saw a lot of  Terns, Gulls, Sanderlings and the Piping Plovers. Any help with bird id's are appreciated. I do not claim to be an expert, lol.

I saw that there were a lot of Black Skimmers at one end of the beach.

Black Skimmers, Terns and Gulls.

Above hubby in the orange vest tried snorkeling at a park called Hunter Spring in Crystal River. I sat near the car watching the White Ibis, Mallards and some Scaup ducks hanging around the parking and in the water. I hope you enjoyed this collection of images from our Florida trip. I still have more to share.
Thank you for visiting and for all the nice comments.. Have a great day and week ahead!

Saturday's Critter's #47

Saturday's Critter's #47

Happy weekend everyone! I am looking forward to seeing everyone's critters this week..I appreciate everyone who has linked up in the past and for those who are linking in on this week's critter party.

I am sharing more the birds and gulls seen on the beach at Ocean City, Maryland.

I love the look on the closest Tern..The Black Skimmer in the rear look like juveniles, they are a brownish color instead of the black color of the adult..

What Gull?  I was thinking maybe a juvie Herring Gull. Edited, I now believe these gulls are the juvenile Laughing Gull.

A closer look at the Black Skimmer's bill.

I am not sure if this flock of birds flying  by were the Black Ducks or DC Cormorants..I hope you enjoyed seeing more birds from Ocean City Maryland...

Thanks to Tex Theresa aka Tex, I was able to add this link up button and thanks to  Jennifer for creating my photo badge.

Ocean City, Maryland

Linking up with Skywatch Friday  and Good Fences

These are photos from Columbus Day weekend, hubby and I went on an overnight trip to the Delaware shore and Ocean City, Maryland..  I am sharing a shot of the sunset at Bombay Hook NWR, the next morning we drove down the coast to Ocean City, Maryland. Also,  some fences that were on the beach for Tex's Good Fences and of course sky captures for Skywatch Friday..

I always love to see the bird houses lined up on fences.. And the sky was beautiful on this shot.

I was not sure if these were Fish Crows or maybe the Boat-tailed Grackle?

These birds above were seen on a fence at the Indian River Inlet, Delaware

An unusual sight at Ocean City, Md the photo above has more birds than people.

A mixed flock of Black Skimmer, maybe Royal Terns and lots of gulls.

The sky and fence on the Ocean City beach.. The kite shop always has some kites outside their store..

Assorted colors of beaks, legs and on their bodies..

I just love the Black Skimmers, they are cool looking birds with their neat looking bill.

Another view of the fence, beach, kites, Great Black Backed Gulls and a gray sky..We had a fun time on our little getaway trip.. I love the beach..  I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

To see more pretty skies from around the world please visit  Skywatch Friday
